The music of Saudi Arabia has both Western and traditional music. Saudi traditional music is quite limited, though. The migratory lifestyle of the people is minimal baggage, including musical instruments. Simple rhythms, with the beat counted by clapping or striking together everyday things made the basics of the music. Instruments like the double-reeded ney or the stringed rababa were sometimes used. Music, however, is considered "sinful" or "haram" by some Muslims, Some Muslims also believe it is sinful for songs to make any mention of women and for women to be involved in the making of music. Dance is popular in Saudi. The national dance is the men’s sword dance known as the ardha. An old tradition with its roots in the country’s central area known as the Najd, the ardha is a mixtures of singers, dancers carrying swords and a poet or narrator. Men carrying swords stand in two lines or a circle, with a poet singing in their midst, and perform the traditional dance.

Usually, the different regions of Saudi have had different dress, but since the re-establishment of Saudi rule these have been saved for festive occasions, and "altered if not entirely displaced" by the dress of the homeland of their rulers. All women are required to wear an abaya a long black cloak that covers all, but the hands and face in public. Modest dress is compulsory for women in Islam. The color of dress for men and women is basted of the scripture. Saudi women also normally wear a full face veil, such as a niqāb. Women's clothes are often decorated. Foreign women are required to wear an abaya, but don't need to cover their hair.Saudi men and boys wear the traditional dress called a thobe or thawb, which has been called the "Arabic dress". During the cool weather, wool thobes in dark colors are not uncommon. At special times, men often wear a bisht or mishlah over the thobe. A man's headdress consists of three things: the tagia, a small white cap ; the gutra itself, which is a large square of cloth; and the igal, a doubled black cord that holds the gutra in place. Not wearing an igal is considered a sign of piety.

Divisions are based mainly on tribal affiliation or descent; the biggest differences between groups is a tradition of being mainly agriculturalists or traders, and the Bedouins, who have a tradition of nomadic pastoralism. The two groups traditionally have been antagonistic. There has been some loosening of tribal ties, however, caused by rapid economic development. Afro-Asians account for the remaining 10% of the population.
