He fought in 40 battles and in 1910 broke his leg when he was hit by a car. When being treated for his injury the medical staff found out that he was transgender. In 1913, Albert began to show signs of dementia and was sent to a hospital to the mentally insane. There they discovered he was transgender and the story caught headlines.
