Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th in many Spanish-speaking countries. In Cuba, however the holiday was banned  in 1969 along with Christmas. Fortunately, in 1998 it was brought to light by Pope John Paul II when he traveled to Cuba.

  people make elaborate scenes with colored sawdust, trees, lakes and mountains. Before going to bed the children place their old shoes under their bed or in the living room near the nativity scene, where the Wise Men will leave them their presents. Some also place outside the house hay and a bucket with water for the animals, and even some cookies and milk for Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar.
Early in the morning on January 6th we would wake up and run to see what the Reyes had left for us.And take down the tree and decor on that day.

El día de los Reyes Magos en República Dominicana casi tiene el mismo significado que la Navidad, y es muy importante. Es un día que niños y sus padres reciben y dan regalos. El Día de los Tres Reyes Magos conmemora el día en que los reyes, Melchor, Caspar y Balthazar, visitaron al bebe Jesús después de su nacimiento. Este día tiene mucha importancia para el pueblo dominicano.
