In Puerto Rico people celebrate and participate in the most common tradition, Christmas. In Puerto Rico and in some other Caribbean countries we celebrate for a long time. Often, the people of the United States and the people of other countries classify the Puerto Rican Christmas season as the longest. In addition, they classify it like this because Puerto Ricans celebrate the day of the three kings and the twentieth day of December as the birth of Christ. The three wise men is a day in which Puerto Ricans celebrate the reception of the baby Jesus. In addition, Christmas is celebrated as the birth of the Messiah and the savior of the world. Puerto Rico has several traditions that are religious or just fun. Puerto Ricans are often also caled the happiest people in the world.

In Cuba, however the holiday was banned in 1969 along with Christmas. Fortunately, in 1998 it was brought to light by Pope John Paul II when he traveled to Cuba.
" Día de los Reyes" or the "Feast of the Epiphany" celebrates the Three Kings or the three wise men that visited baby Jesus when he was born. The holiday in Cuba consists of family members placing their shoes under their beds ( sometimes even filling their shoes with grass or hay for the kings' camels) before going to sleep. When they wake up they hopefully will have presents ,but if they have been bad the person receives rocks. " Roscon de Reyes" is a fruit-filled cake that is either served the evening before or for breakfast.

January 6th is Three Kings Day in Mexico, known in Spanish as el Día de Reyes. This is an insight on the church calendar, the 12th day after Christmas (sometimes indicated as the Twelfth Night), when Christians memorialize the arrival of the Magi or "Wise Men" who arrived comporting gifts for the Christ Child. In Mexico, children collect gifts on this day, brought by the three kings, or los Reyes Mago’s, whose names are Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar. Some children receive gifts from both Santa Claus and the Kings, but Santa is seen as a foreign custom, and the traditional day for Mexican children to receive gifts is January 6.

Three Kings Day is a famous holiday that takes place on January 6th that is very popular in Puerto Rico. It celebrates the biblical story of the three magi visiting the newborn baby jesus. In Puerto Rico, this is the day that children receive their holiday gifts. They set out bins filled with hay under their beds, and if they are good that year, the next morning there will ben candies and toys in the bins. If they have been bad, they sadly would receive charcoal or dirt. However, for the more mature and aged population of the country, three kings day is a night for partying, celebration, and happiness.

It is a celebration for the day the 3 wise men gave their gifts to Jesus. In Mexico, the people exchange their gifts and it is the last day that they celebrate Christmas. Many Hispanic cultures celebrate Día de los Reyes Magos. Kids will leave their shoes outside of the door and it gets filled with gifts. Another tradition in Mexio is if you find a baby in your shoe, it means that you will host a party on February 2nd. Some other names for it are the Epiphany, Theophany, Denha, Little Christmas, or Three Kings' Day

Arlenne Castillo
