Book choice

The book, "Refugee" by Alan Gratz, is a very action-packed book that involves multiple conflicts. I found out about this book by a recommendation from a friend. The moment I started reading “Refugee” it was hard to put the book down. I enjoy the overall sense of controversy that this book radiates constantly. I also enjoy the fact that events are constantly occurring whether they are good or bad events. For example, one of the main character’s relative fell off a boat and a few pages later, the family realized that a storm was coming. These constant chains of events help me both stay awake while reading my book, and help intrigue me and cause me to be curious as to what the future events will hold. I chose this book over others because I liked the mysterious sense that I received from the cover as well as the format this book was written in. For example, this book had three main characters in three completely different storylines that could somehow relate to each other. One of the boy’s name was Josef, the girl’s name was Isabel, and the last boy’s name was Mahmoud. These three different tales made me interested to see what the outcome of these three innocent children in a world of destruction would be. This book reminded me of the Harry Potter series because both of these books have a constant chain of events and a steady rate of conflict at the same time. This book is different from some other books because this novel focuses on topics that other authors of books would not want to choose. For example, the topics of bombs in Aleppo, or Nazi ruling are not your common book subjects. However, these topics were the ones that interested me the most and the ones that ultimately, “hooked me in.”

Events in my book

At this point in my book, many significant events are occurring. The main reason I chose this book was because it had a very consistent plot, involving constant action. There are three main characters in this book with three completely different scenarios occurring. Mahmoud, Isabel, and Josef all have one idea in common, and that is that they are all trying to escape from a certain country in which warfare or conflicts are occurring. Isabel, ran from Cuba and is currently on the sea, while one of her best friends died getting bit by a shark right in front of her eyes. This moment created a fear in my head that told me that anything can happen in this book within a few pages. Mahmoud, is travelling on a ferry to Greece after losing his younger sister in a violent boat accident in the middle of the sea. The moment Mahmoud let go of her sister’s hand made me feel like Mahmoud cared for his youngest sister, so much that he let her go into a stranger’s boat and never saw her ever again. It also inspired me to become the best brother that I can be. Josef, has just witnessed his weak, frail, crazy father attempt to commit suicide while on sea, and now the job of the “man of the family” relies on him. This event made me feel like Josef was a brave and independent boy , to step up in order to obtain the position of head of the family. While Josef was about to board at Cuba after a long journey from Nazi-ruled Germany, they let his father exit the boat due to mental health. While the Cuban police left Josef and his family on the large cruise ship. This separation ultimately created a rift in Josef’s heart because it seemed like Josef was a family-oriented boy who could be independent when needed the most. This forced them to travel back to some country, destination: unknown. Therefore, the most climatic events are happening in Refugee at the moment, which are producing a suspenseful and heart-breaking tone to the text. The family members of these characters are trying to assist their sons or daughters in any way they can, although they are dealing with problems also. A connection I can make here is that I can imagine my parents acting worried or stressed in a situation in which I feel threatened or endangered.

Role of setting in Refugee

Alan Gratz makes the book, Refugee, chaotic by including the crucial setting. The overall setting in this book was war-like and most of the book contained scenes from when the characters were on a boat in the middle of the ocean. There were three characters in this book, Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud. Josef was living in Nazi Germany where most of the scenes were in public places. I believe Alan Gratz wanted this story line mainly to occur in public places because he wanted to portray the inequalities that Jews were dealing with when face-to-face with a German. For example, in the story Josef snuck into the non-Jewish section of his train and tried to buy candy. When the worker there found out he immediately escorted him out. Moments like these conveyed the lack of rights the Jews had. Therefore, in public places, the discrimination would be more evident than if it was a one on one conversation because in a public place, discrimination does not occur to one person, it applies to many. Isabel, was mainly shown to have sailed on a sea with her family, in a minimal sized boat. I believe Alan Gratz did this to portray a status symbol as to the wealth of Isabel’s family. He also did this to show what kind of rigorous conditions Isabel and her family were going through due to the escape from Cuba. Mahmoud was from Aleppo, Syria. A location littered with debris and war-ruins. Therefore, Alan Gratz wanted Mahmoud’s storyline to mainly be based around war, from which he encountered many life-threatening scenarios in the ruins of conflict.

My predictions or wishes, in the book Rebound, by Kwame Alexander

In the book, Rebound many future outcomes can occur. The tragic event of a death in the main character’s family leads to the negative shift in attitude by the main character. I hope that the main character ends up becoming a famous or large basketball player because him and his mother do not really have a lot of materialistic things at the moment. I would like to see him achieving a large, and rare goal, from which he can both provide for his mother, and prove his dead father that he can be something great in life. Also, the reaction he would have after he achieved this goal would reveal a lot about his personality that maybe, the rest of the book could not reveal. For example, if he was persistent and focused to achieve this goal, he would probably have an emotional breakdown when he eventually becomes his dream version of himself. I think that throughout the course of this book, another substantial event will occur, causing the main character’s life to possibly change for the worst. One event that I think can happen is the death of his close friend or if one of his friends goes to jail. I believe that one of these events can cause the main character to start contemplating and looking at life in another way. For example if Skinny, or Charlie’s(the main character) best friend happened to pass away, then Charlie would be depressed or distraught, in overall anguish then could potentially leave his basketball career, or life astray.

Connections, Hopes, and conclusions for Fake ID by Lamar Giles

The book, “Fake ID” by Lamar Giles reminded me of the novel, “Holes”. Both characters in both texts have similar attitudes and problems. For example, in Fake ID the main character must move to a different school while in Holes, the main character is sent to a Juvenile camp. Socially, Stanley (Holes) was a rather quiet boy. As other boys were aggressively bullying and harassing him, Stanley portrayed his calmness in tense situations. Similarly, in Fake ID the main character was bullied in the boys’ locker room. Throughout the vicious beat down and multiple punches, “Nick” stood up calmly and ultimately kept his composure after the devastating scenario occurred. This similarity between both characters was widely expressed throughout both books. The fact that both novels conveyed a boy who was trying to adjust in anew scenario was a large similarity. One event I hope will occur is that “Nick” will become very close friends with the journalist, Eli, so that Nick turns from a new kid from a different town to a popular adolescent. The way that I know that this is realistic is based on the fact that Eli and Nick communicated in a small room, also known as the “J-Room”. The portrayal of the friendship beginning in a small room conveys the idea that the relationship is very personal and will turn out to be a very close friendship. One conclusion I can draw from this text is that Nick feels comfortable in new and scary places. I say this because Nick has came from many different schools and places and is used to adjusting to new and difficult situations.

Conflict in the book Fake ID

As I continued to read the book, Fake ID by Lamar Giles, I realized many issues and conflicts that had not been present earlier in this book, which ultimately contributed heavily to the understanding of the plot and the plot structure. One large conflict that truly arose through the book was “Nick’s” relationship with a girl named Reya. The interaction of these two characters occurred in the very beginning, however it was forgotten of until it was rekindled later in the book. The involvement of a girl in a “Boy oriented” plot was to simply add another issue or responsibility to the main character. The constant thought and sight of her ultimately formed a conflict because it became an issue that had to be dealt with and could not be delayed or removed. Also, it assisted in forming some of Nick’s activities. For example, the party that Nick was not going to originally changed very drastically when he realized Reya was also going and would, “meet him there”. This ultimately changed the direction this storyline was moving in because now Nick is forced to impress Reya, as well as settle in and deal with new personalities in a new atmosphere, or school. The ultimate impression Nick has on Reya must be changed according to events occurring in his life. For example, Nick wants to participate in Journalism the majority of the time. He cannot participate in this hobby if he has to pay attention to the needs or wants of Reya.

Conflict and plot in Fake ID

The main conflict in the book Fake ID, by Lamar Giles, is simply rising now. Nick is discovering new hints about the tragic death of his best friends every day. This conflict that Nick is solving and considering, is the blueprint for the entire plot. I believe the book Fake ID is based around the entire idea of solving the death of Eli Cruz. The obstacles and minimal conflicts that Nick passes through are ultimately the reason for me to continue reading this book. For example, the encountering of Nick with one of his bullies, Zach Lynch, creates a new source of worriment for Nick, causing the ultimate light at the end of the tunnel to become more blocked by rocks in the way. Nick and Reya are attempting to find small clues and hints to reveal the culprit of the death of Eli Cruz. This pursuit led both of them to end up a party with several drunk students. In this difficult journey, Nick finds himself sitting on the mayor’s chair in his main office. These risks and obstacles not only helped form the plot, but it assisted in portraying Nick’s personality. For example, when Nick helped a drunk girl outside to receive fresh air, it shows how courteous Nick is, and how he will do anything to help someone out and solve a problem that someone is suffering from. This reflects the grief that Reya is feeling and how Nick is trying as hard as he can to lift the stress level on everyone, including Reya and her family, by taking risks and going through self-sacrifices to achieve a mutual goal that everyone is looking for.

Final thoughts on Fake ID

As I have approached the end of the book, Fake ID by Lamar Giles, the theme of the book has been revealed. I believe the utter theme of this book is simply to return favors that someone has offered you. I know this because when Nick was in trouble with bullies, his friend Eli, was there to save him. This initially caused the friendship of Nick and Eli to grow and form the structure of this plot as well as make the theme of the book. (Spoiler alert) After the sudden, tragic, thought- provoking, and mysterious death of Eli, Nick wanted to avenge him and find the murderer. This led to the main conflict in the story and a source of interest for the reader. As Nick found the culprit, I realized the bigger picture; Eli helped Nick with a conflict, and Nick returned the favor. One outcome that I would have liked to happen was if Eli was somehow still alive and his death was simply staged. One reason I would have wanted this to happen is because I enjoyed discovering the friendly, yet mysterious sides of Eli. His personality was very interesting in that it was unpredictable and very spontaneous. I am very curious as to how the relationship between Nick and Eli would have turned out if he was still alive. I think they would have many fights because prior to the death of Eli, Nick and Eli were getting into many arguments. I believe these would have sparked until they both become good friends. Male nature is to fight, but through fighting are the closest of friends made.

The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian

In this book, the main character is embodied in the form of a small, kid one year away from the start of his teenage days. I have just started reading this book from which I have pulled out a set of conclusions or set of predictions. One of them being the overall outcome of the main character in his life. I believe there will come a savior who will support positive ideas and create a ray of happiness for the main character. Later in the main characters life, he will come to realize that he is not alone with disabilities, and there are many people in the world that are facing many different adversities, some being physical in capabilities, and some being mental or social struggles. I think overall that the main character will change both emotionally and maybe even physically once a source of comfortability approaches him. This could potentially be in the form of a friend, or mentor whom acts as a guiding light to the main character. I also believe that this motivation and satisfaction can be transformed into a potential career for the main character. As I have read, the main character wants to become a cartoonist. The positivity and hope that the disabled character will eventually gain from having someone supportive, can cause him to feel comfortable in even the most treacherous of obstacles. The addition of a friend can not only benefit the main character, but it can also benefit the friend who is in a friendly relationship. Overall, this book can either interest me a ton or break away from my hopes. If this book was a river and my predictions were correct, then I would enjoy swimming.

Projekt 1065

In my new book, Projekt 1065, many outcomes can occur. While the main character, Michael, is a spy who is sitting among the Nazis, he is vulnerable to any form of violence. The Nazi’s are notoriously famous for their acts of violence in Germany against the Jews. Therefore, a possible outcome of this unpredictable plot can be that Michael becomes severely injured or threatened. Other than all the negative effects that Michael can potentially face, Michael can come out of this situation successful. If Michael continues to act among the Nazi’s and respect them like they are family, I believe he can survive and get the word out. For now, Michael simply needs to, “Shut his mouth” while his family and the Nazi’s are having a friendly conversation. The main form of adversity in this plot will probably come from the Nazi’s and the fact that he is in their area as a known spy. Also, it can come from arguments among Michael and his parents regarding the portrayal of a Nazi, and the fact that Michael despises acting like one of the most treacherous groups of people in all of mankind. My personal prediction of this plot will be that Michael will escape from the Nazi area and lead some sort of rebellion to dethrone the Nazi’s. However, it will be difficult regarding the personalities of the boy and the aura of the group. For example, Michael is an honest and passionate boy who has a great sense of self-esteem to make it through this obstacle. On the other hand, the Nazi’s were cruel and sly; the masters of deception and violence.

In my book Projekt 1065, chaotic events are beginning to occur. My main interest when it comes to books is the jam-packed aspect of constant conflicts. The consistent issues that the main character has to deal with really intrigues me because it helps keep me involved and interested to see what happens next. This method of writing, I believe, is beginning to form in the book, Projekt 1065. I can easily predict this by witnessing the event that the British pilot was found by Michael, and he was not caught by the Nazis. This makes me feel very concerned for the well-being of Michael because the Nazis were portrayed in the book as destruction causing, killer machines. Also, it makes me curious as to what Michael would have been going through now. If I was in Michaels spot, I would have been petrified of the Nazis and probably not gone to save the pilot or act “out of place” in front of them. However, my inner form of bravery would have extruded and made me go the wrong direction, either ending me up in a concentration camp, or worse dead. Not only is Michael himself struggling in the Nazi environment, but his parents are going through a lot to sustain a decent life through the war-oriented Nazi Germany. The parents, in my opinion, are probably feeing very secretive and mischievous through the rescue of the injured pilot, and the necessary cover-ups to Michaels dirty work. Overall, the feelings of the main family are heavily depended on the attitude of the Nazis towards them.

Theme, predictions and other stuff for Projekt 1065

In my book Projekt 1065, Michael is in the process of figuring out what the invention of “Projekt 1065” really is. In my opinion, Michael should very simply listen to his parents and not get involved into any of this Nazi army business. This will provide him an instant moment of relief because Michael is constantly taking stress due to the “Cover-ups” needed to avoid the Nazi’s as a whole. My prediction as this storyline continues is the harming of Michael in Nazi Germany by his sudden and severe actions. The discovery and hiding of the English pilot that Michael found during his adventure with the SS in Germany, helps support my prediction. I believe the theme of this book is persistence. I say this because Michael continues to take risks, and go out of his way to help others, even in Nazi Germany. This teaches that one should keep trying to get a goal, no matter how hard or how challenging it needs to be. This theme can relate to a boxer very easily. This is because professional boxers work their whole life in the sport just to achieve one goal; The WBC (World Boxing Champion) belt. These people continue to work their whole life and never stop working and trying even harder than the day before. This portrays extraordinary persistence, as does Michael’s acts in the book, Projekt 1065. Overall, I am very scared as to what will happen to Michael throughout all this chaos. Throughout the air raid that occurred, Michael was calm. Will he be calm throughout another chaotic event? Will this be a life-threatening event?

End of Projekt 1065

To cap off my book that I finished, “Projekt 1065” I have realized some major factors that were conveyed earlier in the book, which ultimately contributed to the final portion of the action-packed story. One example is the introduction of Fritz, a character from which the storyline was based from. Fritz helped execute the main conflict in this story, but kept such a large conflict on a personal, secretive level. This helped me, as a reader, to understand more of what was going through the antagonist’s mind throughout the course of the story. Through dialogue, relationships, and overall actions, I began getting a stronger hold on what Fritz was portraying in his adolescent life, as well as his attitude towards the antagonist and the protagonist. Michael, the boy who befriended Fritz and the protagonist of the story, was ultimately revealed as a sacrificial boy who had the heart of a lion. This was shown through an array of thoughts, actions, communications with his family and Fritz, and his overall position in this war-oriented book. I believe the theme of this book is to truly never judge a book by its cover. I think this because Fritz, a noodle-armed German who was weak both mentally and physically, ended up playing a major role in Michael’s battle against the Nazi’s. Fritz showed true heart when he fought Michael in the ring and began burning his childhood books at home.
