In the article we read from week one about the eight stages I consider myself in stage seven or the integration stage. During my student teaching semester I was able to create my own lesson plans and use whatever technology I wanted to use with my students. My cooperating teacher had shown me how some of the apps work that the students were used to using but also gave me the freedom to find apps and create lessons using those. I also consider myself in the integration stage because I have been planning activities to do with my first grade students the first week of school and many of these require using technology to teach them how to use it and how to be responsible with the technology. The stage that stuck with me the most from the “5 Stages of Technology Adoption” article is acceptance. When it came to finding my first teaching position I always asked to make sure that technology was accessible for me to use with my students. I believe, like the article stated, “you are truly ready to write this technology into your lesson plans, maximize its usefulness, and truly get the most out of this initiative...(Layton,2014).” To continue to learn more about technology and digital literacy I will follow popular educator blogs that discuss technology among other classroom things. I will also take advantage of any professional development opportunities that come my way regarding digital literacy and technology. To continue learning more technology to use in my classroom I will be researching and finding different websites and apps that are credible and appropriate for the classroom. From the “Power to the Pupil” video from this last week, I would also like to have a day of play in my classroom, where my students have the freedom to express themselves by deciding what they want to inquire about.

reading online

Reading online is very different than reading from a book. One major difference is that while reading online it can be much more distracting because of all of the other things going on on the webpage. There can be ads and all kinds of links to click on, bright colors, and different fonts. While reading from a book you do not have the pop-up ads but you still can have the colorful images or text.

Digital literacy to me is using technology and understanding how to use it. When using technology, to be considered digital literate you must be able to fully understand how to use different technologies. Digital literacy is reading online and evaluating if online resources are reliable. Digital literacy can also be used “for timely and meaningful feedback (Edutopia-How to integrate Technology)” whether it be on assessments, projects, or on quick check or formative assessments.

This course has taught me so much about digital literacy. I have come to better understand what digital literacy is. An article we read the first week stated that digital literacy is “the ability to use and understand information in multiple formats from a wide range of sources (Lankshear).” As we have continued throughout this course I have learned that it’s not only this but also being able to effectively use technology and understand what you are reading but also being able to understand what you are doing with the technology and the purpose of using the technology.
