During my student teaching semester I was able to create my own lesson plans and use whatever technology I wanted to use with my students. My cooperating teacher had shown me how some of the apps work that the students were used to using but also gave me the freedom to find apps and create lessons using those. I also consider myself in the integration stage because I have been planning activities to do with my first grade students the first week of school and many of these require using technology to teach them how to use it and how to be responsible with the technology. The stage that stuck with me the most from the “5 Stages of Technology Adoption” article is acceptance. When it came to finding my first teaching position I always asked to make sure that technology was accessible for me to use with my students. I believe, like the article stated, “you are truly ready to write this technology into your lesson plans, maximize its usefulness, and truly get the most out of this initiative...(Layton,2014).” To continue to learn more about technology and digital literacy I will follow popular educator blogs that discuss technology among other classroom things. I will also take advantage of any professional development opportunities that come my way regarding digital literacy and technology. To continue learning more technology to use in my classroom I will be researching and finding different websites and apps that are credible and appropriate for the classroom. One major difference is that while reading online it can be much more distracting because of all of the other things going on on the webpage. There can be ads and all kinds of links to click on, bright colors, and different fonts. When using technology, to be considered digital literate you must be able to fully understand how to use different technologies. I have come to better understand what digital literacy is.
