GOVERNMENT

The Qin Dynasty's form of government, Legalism, had a successful military and had laws which kept the city controlled.

Military:
The military of the Qin Dynasty had great success during the Warring States Period. They weren't afraid of expanding their borders while the other states were, which gave them more resources. Their weapons were effective and gave them their victory. They used the first ever crossbow, and fired iron arrows called bolts. This weapon was a lot more effective in their battles and during the Warring States Period (Keller) .
Legalism:
The form of government used by the Qin Dynasty was Legalism, and it was used because of its ability to have control over the state. The beliefs of Legalism were that humans were selfish, and wouldn't do something for someone else unless forced to. Also, if someone had hatred for someone else, they would likely just kill them. For people to not kill other people, they had to create Legalism. Legalism includes harsh laws and harsh punishments. This way, it makes it easier to control without too many disasters (Mark).
Laws:
The laws helped emperor Shi Huangdi keep his city in order. One law is "if you see another person breaking the law, you must report them. Otherwise you will be quartered or beheaded." This way not too many criminals or lawbreakers can get away easily. If people broke the law, they would be punished or be charged a heavy fine. Another law was that "literature was denied to the population, except for restricted government officials." The emperor thought that controlling stupid people would be easier, since they couldn't doubt his leadership (Mark)

TECHNOLOGY
The technology of the Qin Dynasty was very important, due to the fact it helped them win most of their wars, and even made road building easier.
Weapons:
The weapons invented by emperor Shi Huangdi helped him be the strongest during the Warring States Period. They had the first crossbow ever used, and they surprised many people with that. Also, instead of using normal arrows like all the other states did, they used arrows that were all iron, and they were called bolts. This shocked the other states as well (Keller)
Inventions:
Emperor Shi Huangdi invented many great things, most still used a lot today. Qin started building the Great Wall of China, which was a series of walls built to protect China from the Mongols. When the Qin Dynasty fell, Han took it on (Hardy). They also invented different axle sizes, so it was easier to build roads because then all carts could be used on them (Blackwell).
Terracotta Warriors:
Before Qin died, he wanted a Terracotta army in his tomb. He had 8,000 lifelike soldiers each with a different facial expression and once brightly colored. They resembled how much he wanted to be immortal. There were four pits, but only three were filled. There were also some weapons and chariots among them (Roach).

TRADE/ECONOMY
Qin innovated many things, like standardizing writing and currency, and also made the Grand Canal.
Currency:

The currency that emperor Shi Huangdi innovated was called Ban Liang Qian. It was bronze with a square hole in the middle of it. Liang was a unit for weight and the coin weighed half of it. The name even means "half liang money" The square in the middle represented square earth and the circular part represented the sky. The circular part also represented the heavenly commandment while the square represents the authority of the emperor. Both represent flexibility, mobility, and stability. They were even material economical since the squares were easily made ("Qin and Han Money - Ban Liang Qian & Wu Zhu Qian").

Writing:
Qin standardized the style writing used throughout China. He required the characters to be uniform around China. Qin created two types of writing, one still used today. The first type writing was Small Seal. It was similar to Great Seal, except it was longer while the Great Seal was more round. Cursive was the other type of writing. It was a fluid style with connected brush strokes. The lines and letters are connected together. These characters do not look like characters in other styles. Cursive is valued for how it looks, because it requires the ability of the to create art with characters, rather than creating text only (Thomas).
The Canal

Qin used canals to have an easy and efficient way to transport items and people. At first, Qin had to use carriages for his troops and they started to run out of grain. The Qin troops could find barely any food. This was before canals were built. After it was built, large numbers of immigrants could be moved easily, and improved the economy of this civilization (Li).

GOVERNMENT
The government of the Qin Dynasty had some harsh punishments and the law of the banishment of books and texts of the Confucian.
Burning of Books:
This is one of the harsh laws that emperor Shi Hungdi created. It was that books were denied to the population. So he burned the books. He created this law because he thought that it was easier to rule over stupid people. That way, they wouldn't deny his ruling.
Punishments:
There were a lot of harsh punishments made by emperor Shi Huangdi. These punishments were caused by breaking the law or another crime. This way, everything was kept in order. One punishment could be a heavy fine. Another could be labor, like working on projects like the Great Wall of China, The Canal, and other hard forms of labor and work. People did not like this for the most part, because it caused lots of deaths for people (Mark).
Hatred in Confucianism:
One thing hated by emperor Shi Huangdi was Confucianism. He hated this because it believes on mostly humanism, rather than afterlife, gods, or the perfectibility of humans. You also must respect your elders ("Confucian"). Texts were burned and only a few remained for restricted government officials. Scholars were arrested and imprisoned as well. This also made people angry (Keller).

CULTURE/RELIGION
Emperor Shi Huangdi wasn't the best at religion, for he didn't have a great ending with immortality and being the Mandate of Heaven, and some architecture didn't last too long.
Immortality:
Through his entire life, Qin was worried about death and immortality. He tried to find potions that could give him eternal life. He sent scholars and other people on missions to find the magic of immortality. No one has succeeded on finding this magic. So, the emperor said various prayers and built many temples for the gods and goddesses. Just in case that didn't work, he wanted a great after life, so he put all the necessities in his tomb. The way he died was looking for the magic or potion of immortality ("Qin Culture").
The Mandate of Heaven:
This role was the reason Qin Dynasty got overthrown by the people of China. This role also meant that Qin had the right to rule by Heaven. Qin believed that the universe was divided into three parts: Man, Earth, and Heaven. The single authority was loyal obedience to the emperor. But, people can overthrow them if they los trust in them. Shi Huangdi's heir got overthrown and the Qin Dynasty only lasted 15 years ("Qin Culture).
Architecture:
Very few buildings survive from the period. The emperor's palace was burned down the last few days of the empire. They didn't survive very in this because it was wood. Wood easily burns in a fire ("Qin Culture").
