Cultural humility is a form of self reflection.

It allows us to consider our own biases, privilege and identity to know and understand ourselves, therefore, allowing us to have more empathy towards others.

Often the focus is on how we can help the other, but we believe that it is incumbent upon ourselves to know where we sit, and how we can be more self reflective, in order to be kinder and more compassionate towards people.

Empathy is identifying with the feelings that somebody is having, even if you haven't experienced the same scenario.

Sympathy is feeling bad for someone because they have experienced something.

Whilst both of these can be sincere, empathy identities with the underlying feeling, rather than the specific circumstance.

Knowing where we stand, the lens which we have, and the views that we have formed based on our upbringing, media consumption and education - means that we are able to locate that in the greater worldview. Knowing that our perspectives are not the only perspectives around, means that we are more accomodating and can adapt to people better than if we have a fixed mindset - one in which only our truth is correct and there are no other truths to be seen.
