by Patricia Polacco
This story shows children that need to take time to learn about other people and give them a chance to be friends. I attached a digital version of this book from Story Line Online. Children really enjoy seeing the pictures come to life and hearing a celebrity read the story. I want you to think of someone you would want to give Enemy Pie to. What is it that you don't like about that person? Is it something you could look past to create a friendship?

To continue this topic and encourage children to make new friends, inside and outside the classroom I want to encourage them to sit with someone different at lunch or play with another friend at recess. I would also have students record those interactions in a journal and see how many new friends they can acquire in a week. Sharing out these journal entries at the end of the week could potentially inspire them to continue these actions.
