Are video games the reason for violence in society?

I believe that video games are the cause of the increase of violence in children. Sales for violent video games have increased 204% from 1994 to 2007. This is coincidentally the time when violence in society began to increase. When young children begin to play more violent games it changes their mindset. As they grow, develop, and continue to play violent games, they will create a negative thinking cycle. This allows them to believe that the violence in games is acceptable to reciprocate in real life. Studies have shown, that children who like to play video games, are more likely to become hyperactive and less patient. This will lead to fights and aggression. Scientists have found that children that play violent video games more often develop severe behavioral issues.

Some may argue that games don't cause violence. A couple of experiments state that the video games are just a coincidence between the kids with behavior issuses. They state that not all kids will respond to the video games because they are not interested and that it depends on personality. Therefore, the aggression is caused by personality. But even though it does depend on personality, video games trigger the aggressive thought resulting in violence.
