He wanted to bring alot of the world under the rule of Allah
He was a man who was endowed by Allah with many talents and abilities, including military prowess, the ability to rule kingdoms, and extensive knowledge. Dhul Qarnain traveled extensively in his life and went into communities to lead them to the right path and ways of life in accordance with the rulings of Allah. He also educated communities and imparted his knowledge to them. 
In his last journey, he reached a place between two mountains where he met a tribe of people who were being terrorized. they asked him to build a wall between them and the people of yajuj and majuj who were causing mischief in the land. Dhul Qarnain built the great wall that trapped Yajuj and Majuj from civilisation and was lost to history.
