High Teaching Load

It is near impossible to achieve significant scholarship with a heavy teaching load with no meaningful support in either online course design (professional design partner), grading (grading assistants/teaching assistants), or classroom connections (eg graduate level seminars). 3 WTUs per year is not sufficient.

Developing an intellectual culture that is invigorating for faculty and students includes a robust events calendar that brings scholars to campus, fosters intellectual exchange. The attendance at many lectures is truly sad.

Stop Wasting Faculty Time

Faculty drop out of service and lose time for research when their campus service is rendered moot, or when they are involved in endless cycles of planning. Those of us who have been here a long time have engaged in several rounds of planning, often seemingly unconnected, that then get repeated when the next dean it provost or President steps into office.

Changing PPS and RTP standards to value unpublished deliverables such as technical reports that are major contributions to an industry or policy, etc. We need to move away from narrow definitions of what constitutes valued scholarship and professional contributions.

Any strategy should apply to NTT as well as TT faculty. NTTF don't want to be stuck in their career progression with less recognition, pay, and respect when we often have the same credentials as TTF and also engage in high quality teaching, service, and research (most of which goes unpaid).
