I enrolled in Barnsley College with a tutor so I could pursue my dream of being a paramedic through the degree the course awards. I provided evidence of my GCSE results and other legal documents I needed to provide. I do not work, but I volunteer with the Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP), West Yorkshire Youth Commission (WYYC), where I help the West Yorkshire Police tackle youth-orientated crimes/issues, and I am soon to join the NHS Cadets. I have also volunteered at LGBTQ+ owned cafés and I own a small business where I sell bookmarks and stickers in queer-owned bookshops around Leeds and Wakefield - I have had to communicate with many people to get into the programs I currently work with, such as applying to the NHS Cadets through the St John’s Ambulance Youth Program.

I want to improve my public speaking skills, as I have never presented anything in front of people by myself and I don’t think I would be confident enough to participate without help from another person, like I've had with the WYYC where I interviewed people who represent companies that work with the VRP to create a newsletter that I was unfortunately unable to finish at the time or where I had mock job interviews throughout high-school.

EVIDENCE ONE
Today my friend, Murphy, and I did a team activity where we raced around campus to find answers to a scavenger hunt, such as 'Find the oldest building', etc. We answered each question by taking a picture with the evidence, for example the 4G for 'Where can you play sports off the courts?'. We used team communication to find each answer and then navigate each location to find what we needed.

As a class, we made a 'quilt' out of decorated paper that we strung together. This took team effort and communication to make sure everything fit and we were able to take a picture altogether.

I work with the West Yorkshire Youth Commission, where we work as a team to help improve the quality of life of vulnerable youth in West Yorkshire (WY). We had a meeting last weekend where we discussed all we have done to help Yorkshire and also aid the WY Police to launch a campaign that protects women and girls against gender-based crime through surveys and safe spaces that will soon be implemented in cities and towns, especially places like Leeds and Bradford. The mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin thanked me, and our organisation for our work.

STAYING MOTIVATED

EVERYDAY

I listen to music every moment I get! I love so many genres It's hard to pick a favourite, but Mitski's new songs have got me hooked, I listen to it on repeat all the time. Due to being autistic, sometimes repetitive noises can irritate me a lot more than neurotypical people, which can lead to meltdowns. So I begged my grandad to buy me new headphones, ones with noise cancelling, and I doubt I've taken them off for more than two hours at a time. Things can be overwhelming, but music has helped me through it all.

SCHOOL

I watch true crime documentaries to stay motivated when I work on my assignments - weird I know! However, I thrive on eerie atmospheres when doing work, whether watching horror films or listening to documentaries/podcasts in the background. Lately, I've been binge-ing 'Bodies' on Netflix, it isn't great, but the dumb crime drama keeps me focused more than anything.

VOLUNTEERING

Working with such important people is terrifying sometimes, so recording meetings and conferences to listen to later helps me the most. Most of the time, I can miss some information due to social anxiousness, so listening back to the voice memos helps a lot.

TRIGGERS

Me and a few friends have shared our triggers and we have explored why we have these and what we can do to help cope with these things.

I also helped my friends in other ways, such as speaking up for them when their social anxiety became too overwhelming for them to communicate.

Lastly, I worked with my friend Murphy in the scavenger hunt and kept our motivation up when we lost second place.

Reusable Water Bottle

I bought a water bottle last year at a queer run cafe in Wakefield, where I also volunteered and completed by barista training. I also reuse plastic bottles I buy by either using them for drinking water, or collecting rain water to use in my greenhouse.

Recycling

I compost most of my food for my garden, and what I do not use i put in a food waste bin in biodegradable bags.

I recycle cans, glass, plastics, card, cardboard, paper, and anything else I possibly can.

Travel

I very rarely ever travel by car, and I get the bus to college everyday, and also each time I go far away from home. If my destination is not too far away, I normally walk.

Food

I always try to reuse my food, by bringing it to the farm I work at in a food waste bag where my boss uses it for compost which I then use for my plants in my greenhouse. I also grow my own vegetables and only really buy vegetables when mine aren't fully grown or I need more than whats in my garden.
