i prefer to compete as a team because as the saying goes ‘teamwork makes the dream work’.
Personally, i feel that working in a team reduces pressure. This is because we are able to share the burden together, and will not need to face the pressure of competitions alone. Besides, when we are feeling pressured, we have others to rely on and comfort us. Being forced to work with others can also start new friendships with the rest of your team members, and may even strengthen already formed relationships.

Personally, I prefer competing alone over in teams.

One reason I choose to work individually is because I work better alone as there will not be teammates pulling me down. For example, I was in the National School Games for cross country. In the race, getting into top 20 individually would get us a medal for ourselves, I can achieve it alone .But if we compete in a team, the results would be the average of our team's runners. Therefore, those who are slow will become a burden and drag down those who are fast. This causes even more stress for me as the teammate will be relying on me to keep the results consistent without contributing in any way. In NSG, ACS this school was actually in the top 3 in the team position,but due to some of their teammates not putting in their full effort in the race,it cause them to drop to top4. Hence, all in all having teammates that are not willing to put in any effort to the team makes it very tiring to keep up with the challenge and this is why I would prefer to be independent.

Another reason I prefer competing alone over in teams, as I like being able to progress at my own pace. From my experience in the NCC ROCK CLIMBING X BAND team, whenever we go for trainings, we must adapt our trainings according to everyone's level of fitness. When one cannot keep up, we have to wait for them to catch up and then continue again. So, I feel that competing alone is better as I don't have to wait for those who are slower than me. So working alone lets me progress quicker and faster than if i were in a team.

However, some may argue that competing as a team is better. I prefer to compete as a team as the chances of success are greater. We once had an in-class debate competition between our fellow classmates. After working on it together, all our hard work paid off and we won against the other team. With more people in a group, we had many perspectives to choose from. As people say "teamwork makes the dream work". we were also there to encourage and support each other throughout the competition
Science reinforces the idea that many brains are better than one. “We found that groups of size three, four, and five outperformed the best individuals,” says Dr. Patrick Laughlin a researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Thus i feel that working as a team is better than working alone.

Despite this, I strongly feel that working alone is better. For example, in Secondary 2 i worked in a team for a literature exam and each member dragged each other down, kept talking to each other and didn't get work done. Furthermore, with so many perspectives, we couldn't decide on anything until the week before. Hence I feel working alone is better.

Competing as a Team brings one many advantages as many hands make lesser work. Firstly, working in a team enables us to build up our communication, social and team bonding skills, which are vital for us in the future. For example, I am from a relay run group, my group and i were given a chance to go for an international competition. We trained together really hard with a common goal in mind. We had to communicate with each other to give opinions or advice each other on ways we can improve or continue doing. When times get tough, we would always encourage each other to push on and say that the reward would be very rewarding if we had worked hard.

I prefer to compete as an individual as i perform better alone. For example, in my co curriculum activity(CCA), I specialise in playing singles badminton, generally doing much better than in doubles. It is because for me,I am better working alone having fear that playing in doubles i would let my teammate down and being a burden.In my recent badminton training,i was told to play singles and doubles against my coaches.In the end, i won them in singles while me and my partner lost in doubles.Thus im better playing individually then playing with a partner.

P : As an individual , we will be responsible for our own success .
E : When we compete as an individual , no one will be able to pull us down , affect our performance and make our efforts go to waste . Our own skills will be the reason for our success .
E : A team only works well when everyone puts in the same effort . For example , a dance team . During a dance team competition , if someone does a wrong dance move or does not synchronise with the rest , it will pull the team down greatly .
E : Thus , it will be hard to pinpoint who and what went wrong , which may also result in disagreements . However , as an individual , one is able to improve on any areas they are weak in , and create room for improvement which also will not result in arguements with others .
L : Hence , i prefer participating in competitions as an individuals

I would prefer to compete as an individual.
competing as an individual has many benefits and advantages than competing as a team. firstly, I like to compete as an individual as there is no accountability for any mistakes or actions I made. a salient example is in primary school I represented the school for a basketball competition. My team lost pretty badly and they started blaming me for the mistake and hiccups I made during the game. Therefore with no teammates there will not be anyone to blame you for your mistakes.

I prefer to compete as a team as we can cultivate teamwork to help each other when we run into problems, and we would be more motivated to do better for the sake of our teammates. For example, once during a coding competition, in which we had to create some programs to sort out data, there was an older team member in my team that entered a similar competition and therefore was able to guide us on creating one of the best programs which earned the team second place. Along the way, he also gave us tips on planning and gave some leadership advice, all of this helped me lead a team of my own in the following year's competition and we won second place too. This is an advantage as we would always be able to learn and grow with every team competition by listening to the tips and advice given by the more experienced members of your team. Hence, competing as a team is better. However, there are disadvantages to working as a team despite the advantages listed above, it depends on the teammates you'll have, and they might not be active which would not help you learn and grow. But, I am sure there is at least one member in your team that can help you improve or you can be the one that help others improve.

It would also be a wonderful opportunity for me to become a more mature person by learning from situations from the competition. For example, during a team competition, every member in my team was clueless and it was very chaotic, due to lack of communication and failure to pay attention to the instruction because they were all mischievous and didn't pay attention.
[example here]
From my personal experience, I would say that my parents were very hesitant to allow me to join at first but afterwards, they became supportive after they decided that it was a valuable experience for me to grow as a person as they noticed that I had become more mature and patient as a person.

Offers perspective(s) with some development (missing info: what type of competition did you participate in before and how did it make you change your thoughts / perspective on competing?; Missing info: why were your parents hesitant to allow you to compete in the first place?

• Some attempt at using a range of vocabulary and structures;

Throughout my secondary school life many adults especially my cca teachers have encouraged me to participate in many competition ranging from academical to technical related competition. After competing in these competitions i have gained a lot of useful skills and knowledge <del>and that is why my parents and other adult i know would encourage me to participate in competitions as participating in them have many benefits. </del>
Firstly participating in competition would allow one to learn values that will not be taught in the classroom or found in the textbook. Values such as determination, diligence and resilience can be cultivated through the ardous and mentally-challenging traning sessions to prepare for a <del> challenges such as </del>competition. Secondly participating in competitions would allow one to broaden their horizon and expand their social network. Competition widens your social circle as you have more opprtunities to meet and interact with people of different backgrounds / share similar interests. <del>As most competition would be between different school or even different countries the chances of you meet someone u dont know are very high. For example in primary school when taking part in a basketball competition, i got to meet many new people from other school and till thois day we still keep in touch.</del> broken EL! For example, I took part in a basketball competition once and I made so many friends whom I still keep in contact today. This shows that competiting in competition would give one the opportunity to make new friends. Thirdly participating in competitions is validating especially when you win. You would be filled with joy upon winning at the same time you would make your parents and loved ones proud of you. A salient example would be in sports or athletics. <del>whenever they win they will be overcome with</del> An athelete would feel a huge sense of accomplishment when they win as all their hard work, intesnive traning sessions / dedication have paid off.
However there is always two sides to a coin. one disadvantage of taking part in competition would be that one would base their entire self worth on winning and losing. This woul<del>d create</del> place immense pressure and stress on an individual leading to mental health issues. In the US many nfl athletes have commited suicide as they could not accept the fact that they lost and become disillusioned.

State your stand : My parents and other adults always encourage me to participate in competitions

1st P+EEL : Point here is: Firstly, competition bring me closer to my parents. For example , being in the cross country CCA has given me an oppurtunity to partake in many races . My parents , for one , will always be the ones supporting me through out my competitions . They would always motivate me to do better , and to push myself as hard as i could . Last week , i participated in a race . Without a doubt , I was very nervous that I would not perform well . However , my parents were there to calm me down , and encouraged me to do my absolute best . Their support really impacted me positively and I came in .... place, much to their delight.
2nd P+EEL : Secondly , my parents also believe that competitions can bring about benefits for us , teenagers . This is because competitions will shape us into a more resilient , disciplined , and mature person . HOW? Give some specific examples!! Thus , they strongly encourage me to take part in competitions .
Rebuttal: PEEL : However , I understand that some may feel otherwise . Certain parents do not encourage their children to participate in competitions as they feel that it is unhealthy . Competitions may make one feel very pressured and stress , resulting in their mental health deteriorating. For example , if a child does badly during a competition , the child may feel demoralised , or like a failure .
Conclusion +Counter Rebuttal : Despite this , I still strongly believe that the advantages of participating in a competition outweighs its disadvantages . Personally , after participating in many races , I've learnt the value of perseverance and understood the quote " No pain , no gain ."

• Offers some thoughtful responses with generally well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a range of largely appropriate vocabulary and structures;

I feel that most Singaporeans are interested in sports. Many Singaporeans congratulated Joseph Schooling on social media after he won a gold medal at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. In addition, swimming clubs noticed a surge in new members following his Olympic victory,proving that Singaporean do celebrate and look up to their local athletes. In the Philippines SEA Games, Teong Tzen Wei <del>went out and</del> beat Joseph Schooling, the man who inspired him. This shows that Singaporeans are indeed interested in sports as they are inspired by athletes.

In addition, Singaporean athletes earn the highest salaries for Olympic gold medals. Singapore offers the largest payout for an individual gold medalist at 1 million Singapore dollars, with rewards of 500,000 for silver medalists and 250,000 for bronze medalists. In the team events, medalists divide up larger pots of money, according to Forbes. Successful athletes can earn a lot if they win an Olympic gold medal. Thus, this shows how local atheletes are appreciated

However, some Singaporeans are not interested in sports. This could be due to the mindset that sports do not pay well Athletes do not have a stable career and parents do not consider sports to be a good career choice for their children. It is difficult to be at the top of any sport, and even if you represent Singapore at the Olympics, the Olympics are only held once every 4 years. Athletes who won medals and got paid may not have much opprtonuties to earn regular incomes. <del>would inevitably spend all their money by the time the next sports event rolls around. </del>Parents here want their children to get well-paying jobs that pay a reasonable salary and provide financial security. The importance of academic excellence still outweighs extracurricular activities.

Even so, Singaporeans still go out of their way to support local athletes and keep up with the latest sports news. Singaporeans still continue to have an interest in Sports and many of us here do adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. There is nothing like sports that continue to excite us, stir our passions, and bring our community together.Thus I feel that Singaporeans are interested in sports.

• Offers some thoughtful responses with generally well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a range of largely appropriate vocabulary and structures

I would say that most Singaporeans are not interested in sports.

One reason is because, in Singapore, the standards and expectations of successful Singaporean athletes are remarkably high. For example, Joseph Schooling was only known in Singapore as he got gold in the Olympics. However, not all athletes can achieve that same level of recognition to gain support from the public. It's hard for other athletes to be recognised by the government as they haven't won anything yet. The support from the government to athletes is crucial as it gives them a source of income to continue training and developing themselves <del>an income source</del> whereas competitions only give award them money if they win<del>, which</del> This may cause<del>s</del> even those who like sports to lose interest in it as a career, with only those who are really dedicated to it fully committing to make it a successful career. Thus, it's difficult to survive as an athlete in Singapore, resulting in a lack of interest in sports in Singapore.

Another reason is due to the lack of popularity of sports in Singapore. For example, very few athletes in Singapore make it to the Olympics as compared to other countries such as the US. This lack of athletes representing Singapore in events results in sports in Singapore as a career to be looked down upon, as many believe being a Singaporean athlete won't be successful. This results in Singapore becoming a weak sporting nation with a <del>an anti-sports career environment with </del>few sports coaches who have experiences in the Olympics in Singapore. <del>Furthermore, even if they did participate, as they didn't win, they may not be good coaches. </del>Even well-known Singaporean athletes such as Joseph schooling did not believe that training in Singapore alone is good enough as there just isn't enough resoruces here to support his training, such as a good coach. Thus, this lack of professional support and anti-sports environment in Singapore results in sports being unpopular in Singapore.

However, some may argue that people are supportive of sports in Singapore as Singaporeans often pursue sports as after school co-curricular activities(cca). For example, sports such as basketball or cross country. Many of these sports host their own national competitions, with even more new sports being added as ccas recently such as rock climbing. Many even use their ccas experience for direct school admission into schools, such as secondary schools, polytechnics, institute of technical engineering and junior colleges. Hence some may argue that people support sports in Singapore, as it has enough recognition and popularity that new sports are added as ccas and competitions are hosted.

Despite this I strongly feel that sports in Singapore is not supported. Although people pursue sports as a DSA in Singapore, it does not equate to people supporting sports as a career. Most of these athletes use sports as a vessel to get into their dream schools, and once they get into their desired schools <del>dream</del>, most do not pursue it further than a personal hobby. To prove my point, few athletes make it to the professional level and just as little end up as experienced coaches. Hence I feel Singapore has an anti-sports environment and its people does not support sports.

• Offers well-considered responses with coherent and well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a range of largely appropriate vocabulary and structures;

Yes, I would say that the people of my country are interested in sports. From what I have seen, there is nobody who does not know about Joseph Schooling. Joseph Schooling is a famous Singaporean who <del>lead</del> led Singapore to victory by winning a gold medal in the 100m butterfly swimming race back in 2016, which is Singapore's first ever Olympic gold medal. With this, Joseph Schooling has <del>peaked</del> piqued the interest of many Singaporeans. After winning the gold medal, many Singaporeans are now <del>attracted to</del> keen to watch the competitions that Joseph participate in and they are more interested in sports now. This can also be seen in the rising popularity of people taking up swimming as a competitive sport.

Another reason why I feel that Singaporeans are supportive of having a sports career is because they stood up for someone who was in the Paralympics. For example, Ye Pin Xiu, won 2 gold medals in the Paralympics, was given one-fifth of the S$1 million as a reward for winning 2 gold medals. However, Singaporeans found it unfair and they had a debate about paralympic council in talks to raise cash awards for medal-winning para-athletes. Now its Due to the overwhelming support for Pin Xiu, she now receives half a million which is better than one-fifth of the S$1 million. This shows how Singaporeans feel the pride that Ye Pin Xiu brought to Singapore making them stand up for her. Hence the people in my country are supportive of people with a sports career.

However, a minority of Singaporeans would disagree with me, as they feel that sports is not a sustainable job. Due to the fact that Olympiad games is held every 5 years or so, a sports career may not provide one with a steady / regular income.<del> Hence</del><del> their winning will be spent within the first two years. Furthermore, Singapore is a place where thing is expensive that</del> their winning might only last for one year and will be use up very fast. broken EL (may run out of savings given the high costs of living here in SG) <del>Because of the training and the necessary thing </del><del>what thing? </del><del> they need to spent on. </del>To add on being a sport athlete may only be sustainable till the age of <del> will only last them till they are</del> 30 <del>years old </del>due to the old age and the lack of agility. Hence it is not a sustainable job for many people and Singaporeans may only support their favourite athlete <del>will disagree on supporting them as they will not see their favourite athlete after they reach</del> to a point they retire.

Despite this negative side, I still feel that Singaporeans are interested in sports as they are really supportive and are willing to fight for what's ethical.

STAND: No, the people in singapore are not really interested in sports in supporting local athletes.

Reason 1: This is because the event that athletes take part in
is not very popular, no hype to it. For example, joseph schooling and loh kean yew, they both won gold medals for Singapore, and is currently the recognizable athletes in Singapore, but for the other athletes, no one or little people knows about them, that's why they train in different countries.
