Gaming for language - brainstorming by

Fill out the padlet with your ideas for a game you think you can use in your classroom to help students with language comprehension; briefly explain the gist of the game. Then, decide what aspect of language learning it is helping on, such as speaking or writing. Add an idea of how you would assess it--is it a long term project, a one time experience, or something else? Finally, explain what components of the chosen game you think can help with language. Feel free to chat with each other and comment on each others' suggestions!

Learners can practice conversational skills while navigating real-world interactions by creating scenarios that reflect authentic cultural settings—like local markets, cafes, or landmarks.

I have students work in groups for this game. They have to take turns writing, translating, or speaking in the TL and providing the answer. They can work together to formulate the answer, but only one can give it and the must take turns. For each correct answer, teams draw a single card from a deck of regular cards. At the end, teams count up their total based on a predetermined point value. Then there is a surprise - the 3 of hearts is worth 30 points! If using jokers, they change value from game to game so nobody knows if it will be good or bad.
