I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Ms. Davey's class today. She created a welcoming and fun environment for the students with a meditation prayer followed by Zip Zap Zop! as a warm up. I observed a perfect balance of freedom and fun paired with very clear boundaries as students connected with each other and performed short pieces on stage.

I was having so much fun that I stayed longer than planned. Of note: Rogers creates a vibrant environment using specific strategies: catch phrase: "Watch this!" and calling students by name but in a way that doesn't feel like cold call. Students were very engaged in an "into" lesson where they answered the question, "Were the Roaring 20s roaring?" Students feel very safe in that space. Rogers's warmth, inclusivity, and buoyant energy make this possible.

Love the connection and play with the material. I learned so much! Youth Culture, 1920's Birth of Pop Culture. How we are so much the same 2026 & 1920's are so similar "Return to Normalcy" / "Make America Great Again" How much then mirrors now. Appreciate the way Mr. Rogers calls students by name in a positive storytelling sort of way. He is Energetic and brings in everyone, keeping students engaged.

I enjoyed Ms. Gallien’s AP English Lit class very much. Her students had analyzed selected poems and were going presenting them orally and visually in small groups. It was a good reminder for me at the value these presentations have. Students have to be in front of a group – prepared – where they have not only collaborated but become mini-experts in whatever they’re presenting.

During these presentation, Ms. Gallien did several things that I appreciated and admired. First, instead of battling against their use of AI, she had them collaborate and use AI tools in their presentations. Groups freely talked about what the AI model had produced and what it’s analysis (versus theirs) was. Next, she was good at asking follow up and clarifying questions. She intended, I think, to make sure that they were not simply parroting back what the AI analysis had been. Good work by a good teacher. Bravo.

Although I missed my schedule observation slot, I was able to see Ms. Davey and it was great. She is obviously an expert in her field and creates a class where students are allowed freedom and flexibility but where they also have to take ownership over their activity/production. Her energy infects them in the best way. Can we all take a class like this? :)

The students were engaged in a variety of poems and were presenting their interpretations. One of the groups did a dance to represent their chosen poem. It is always a joy to watch students bring arts across the curriculum. Mrs. Gallien encourages expression and individuality within presentations leaving a guided yet open forum. Opening up possibility for creative and formulative expression.
