The question of abandoned infrastructure is for the Swiss prealpine and alpine cantons at stake. Currently, 15 ski lifts around the country are abandoned and others should close permanently due to climate change. Even if the Federal Law demands that unused infrastructure get demolished after permanent closure, neither the Confederation nor the cantons nor the municipalities nor private actors want to invest money to dismantle the infrastructure. Now, a federal deputy claimed that the Federal Council set up a federal fund to help cantons dismantle unused ski lifts and resore the open spaces.
