From ages 5-7 my dad read me Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. I remember always wanting to read more, and how every day I would beg him for one more chapter. This started off my journey into the world of reading and made me realize how powerful even fictional stories could be (as much as a seven year old can, at least).

This proves my claim because it was when I first got into reading, or at least the concept of it.

For Christmas when I was nine, my parents got me book one of 'Keeper Of the Lost Cities', an ongoing series written by Shannon Messenger. After not reading this book for about a year, when I finally picked it up I was transported to another world. I quickly bought all the other books that had come out so far, and with my sister, read them all in the span of a week. This is a big part of my reading journey because it was the first time where I experienced an anticipation of the next book coming out, suspense, and infuriating cliffhangers.

At this point in time, was when I really had a chance to explore the "behind the scenes" of reading, and unfortunately, the pain of cliffhangers. This proves my claim because it is yet another turning point in my reading career, a new obstacle that now must be overcome.

This was when I read 'Land Of Stories' by Chris Colfer. It was the first series that I had read on my own, and I was really proud of it at the time. Every two days, I would go to the library and check out the next book, then I would leave it until thee next morning, when I would wake up at seven, read for an hour, and then proceed to continue reading as much as possible throughout thee next couple days.

This was when I first started to read actual books on my own, and was a turning point in my evolution as a reader.

During the summer of 2020, our parents bought us a bunch of books that they had read as kids. I don't know why, but 'The Outsiders' written by S.E. Hinton really stood out to me. I also read its two companion novels, and all were very powerful and interesting to me. This was where I realized that great books don't always have to be a part of a series, which helped me further my understanding of literature. I also got a chance to read 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley, which I found just as fascinating as I did creepy, and which still makes me think just as much as it did back then.

This connects to the evolving aspect of my reading, which was mentioned in the claim.

For Christmas of 2020, my parents bought me the first series of 'Percy Jackson'. This sparked an obsession in both my sister and I which has only died down slightly over the past ten months. These books gave us not only fifteen books (21 if you count the other two sub-series), but also hours of entertainment, and infinitely more hours of debates and discussions.

This was arguably the first time I had a real obsession with a book. being at the beginning of my marvel obsession, I was looking for something to take my mind off it (my family was getting irritated by my constant ramblings with my sister). Percy Jackson was the perfect thing. This period connects to my claim because it shows when I really started to love the stories, and become part of the community in other ways aside from just reading the books.

Coming off of all this, I have recently been enjoying more standalone novels to do with dystopias. I started reading '1984' by George Orwell two days ago, and have been enjoying it immensely. I'm excited to pursue my interest in books like these and also whatever comes next in the forever great Percy Jackson and keeper of the lost cities series'.

This relates to the aspect of the claim that talks about evolution of taste.
