• I believe that the clarity enables the team members to effectively execute what they are expected to do. To have clarity on the team is to have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities, ensuring that everyone contributes fully in terms of their capabilities. Overall, it increases and enhances work performance and satisfaction, and facilitates learning.

1. An occupational therapist works across all age groups and throughout a wide range of physical and psychosocial areas that affect one’s ability to participate and perform in his/her occupation.
2. Enable clients to participate and perform in occupations, especially in activities that are meaningful to them. 
   1. Promote health and well-being through occupations. These occupations are: activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), health management, rest and sleep, education, work, play, leisure, and social participation. 
3. Create a treatment plan that is holistic and client-centered.
   1. Goals (STGs & LTGs) should target the needs and wants of the client.
   2. Approaches may be bottom-up (skill-based) or top-down (occupation-based). 
   3. All contexts, performance patterns, performance skills, and client factors are considered and evaluated since these may affect one’s participation and performance in occupations.
      1. Environmental Context. One of the distinguishing roles of OTs is the assessment of the client’s environment (e.g. home, school, work) in order to provide recommendations – adapt or modify the environment to better encourage occupational performance. The support available for the client is also taken into account.
4. Besides the professional team, the client, involved family member/s, and caregiver/s are included in the rehabilitation team. 
   1. Educating and training the involved family member/s and/or caregiver/s are also a part of the roles of occupational therapists. This is to ensure that the client would be able to have the support needed even at home and to create an environment for the client that would be able to understand and enable the client in engaging in his/her occupation.

   3. Adapt or modify environment or activities to make the transition easier, support client’s participation and performance, and increase independence. 

What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

• To assess, evaluate and implement treatments for clients so that they can perform their occupations (i.e. meaningful activities) and have an increased sense of independence and quality of life. This is done through a client-centered attitude where different client factors (e.g. physical, cognitive, social needs) and contextual factors (e.g personal, environmental, etc.) are all considered for a more holistic approach. 
• To plan and establish realistic goals with clients (including their caregivers) towards meaningful and desired outcomes.
• To educate and motivate clients in the process of their rehabilitation

1. A physical therapist is one of the healthcare professionals responsible in the rehabilitation process of patients with varying conditions. By providing different PT interventions and evaluation, we help the patient restore function, alleviate pain, prevent further progression of condition, and attain their maximum independence. 
2. Aside from these, PTs also help athletes through strengthening, conditioning, and teaching them proper body mechanics to be able to avoid injuries in the future. 
3. Other PTs are also in the academe field who educate future PTs. 
4. They provide care for people in a variety of settings, including hospitals, sports & fitness facilities, universities, private practices, and outpatient clinics. With the help of the different members of the rehabilitation team, they work hand-in-hand to achieve the client/patient’s highest possible level of independent function. 

• If there is no role clarity among member of the team, this can cause conflict and misunderstanding among them. Defining the role of each profession will be beneficial to understand what is expected from them with regards to coming up with a treatment plan for the patient. Clarity of job role enhances employee and team performance. This helps in measuring the performance of the employee. In addition, having an open and constant communication between each member of the team will allow them to have a better and efficient rehabilitation session and plan. 

• To prevent or remediate impairments, functional limitations and disabilities related to movement through the application of scientific principles in conducting examination and formulating interventions

• To provide patient and family education with regards to the nature of patient's condition, the risk factors, prognosis, and the importance of consistently adhering to the exercise programs

• When the roles and duties of the members are defined, the team will be efficient towards achieving their goals. Role clarity will help in avoiding confusion and delays as well as duplication of work or overlapping of efforts. This is important especially in healthcare because there may be overlapping of responsibilities among the members of the team. Having a clear definition of each member’s roles will allow the team to maximize their strength and thereby undertake more activities given that the members already know what they are expected to do. 

• PTs are responsible for examining and evaluating the patient’s condition. This is done through conducting a complete history taking and performing different objective assessments. With the findings from the tests, it is our responsibility to formulate different interventions to help address the impairments and chief complaints of our patients. 
• PTs play a role in helping the patients restore or achieve  their highest functioning goals by providing different exercises and treatments. 
• PTs are movement experts hence we are advocates of mobility and exercises. It is part of our duty to encourage and educate our patients the importance of having an active lifestyle that is appropriate for their condition. 
• Aside from being in the healthcare sector, PTs also have different career opportunities. They vary from being in the administrative sector by managing a PT clinic or in the academic field by becoming professors. Most PTs are also heavily exposed in the research field. 

• Role clarity is an essential part of working among team members. With role clarity, different professionals are able to delineate the different duties and responsibilities of each member. This then would promote efficiency and a more holistic approach in the treatment plan for the patient. It would also help in assigning members that would have expertise in providing intervention for specific problems of the patient. Additionally, this encourages teamwork among the team because this requires them to be able to communicate effectively with each other. Without role clarity, it would be difficult for the team to carry out their intervention plan which would eventually result in loss of progress for the patient.
