Many times during the week, students come up to me and say, "I want to read this book, but I can't check it out because it's not in my reading range." So frustrating! When I tell them that they can check it out anyway and read it for FUN, because they WANT to, there is almost always a sigh of relief from the student and a smile on their face as they respond, "OK!" Letting them know that's OK and allowing them that freedom of choice is empowering.
-Jennifer Spengler

After hearing you speak at the NCSLMA conference in 2014, I was inspired to start a Maker Space in my media center even though it was my first year. With my Technology Facilitator we wrote a $81,000 grant and won it to start Maker Space! My students loved being able to create their own projects, chose their tools and materials. I loved how they would share with me constantly what they made. It was an awesome year, then I moved to Tennessee. Time to start over!
