I wonder why Darry and PonyBoy don't like each other. I see why PonyBoy wouldn't like Darry, Darry is always complaining about what PonyBoy does. Like when he got jumped by the socs Darry said it was his fault because he didn't have a knife on him. On page 13 Darry said "You don't ever think... Not at home or anywhere when it counts. You much think at school, with all those good grades you bring home, and you've always got your nose in a book, but do you ever use your head for common sense? No sirree, bub. And if you did have to go by yourself you should have carried a blade." Then later on in this page PonyBoy started to think about what else Darry would have said if he did bring a blade "I could never please him. He would have hollered at me if I had carried one. If I brought home B's, he wanted A's, and if i got A's, he wanted to make sure they stayed A's." But then I started to think and maybe this is Darry's way of showing how he cares about PonyBoy. What if Darry was just really hard on PonyBoy because he wanted PonyBoy to succeed and life and not be poor his whole life. What I noticed while reading the book so far was that Darry is always drinking and smoking, and he is mostly drunk. So maybe he is so hard on PonyBoy because he thinks he is a bad influence and doesn't want his little brother to end up like him.

There were some more stains on the grass. He looked up and across the field with a stricken expression on his face. I think we all heard the low moan and saw the dark motionless hump on the other side of the lot at the same time. Soda reached him first. Johnny was lying face down on the ground. Soda turned him over gently, and I nearly got sick. Someone had beaten him badly. We were used to seeing Johnny banged up--- his father clobbered him around a lot, and although it made us madder than heck, we couldn't do anything about it. But those beatings had been nothing like this. Johnny's face was cut up and bruised and swollen, and there was a wide gash from his temple to his cheekbone. He would carry that scar all his life. His white T-shirt was splattered with blood. I just stood there, trembling with sudden cold. I thought he might be dead; surely nobody could be beaten like that and live. Steve closed his eyes for a second and muffled a groan as he dropped on his knees beside Soda. Somehow the gang sensed what had happened. Two-Bit was suddenly there beside me, and for once his comical grin was gone and his dancing gray eyes were stormy.

Johnny almost died because of the other gang I feel bad that he is roped into it and because he is the weakest one he is in danger of dying.

Throughout pages 1-13 I've noticed that PonyBoy describes the other greasers very precisely. For example on page one he was describing himself,¨ I have light-brown, almost-red hair and greenish-gray eyes. I wish they were more gray because I hate most guys with green eye, but I have to be content with what I have. My hair is longer than a lt of boys wear theirs." Then on page 2 he is talking about his brothers Darrel and SodaPop. I think this shows how much PonyBoy Pays attention to the people in his group and shows how much he cares. When he was describing the relationships of everybody, like with him and Darrel I thought maybe it was just his perspective. What if this isn't how they are and what they really look like? And how come darry is the only on with a regular name in the family?

On page 20 PonyBoy and Two-Bit

when with Darry to a greaser hang out so Darry wouldn't get jumped. But my question is why wouldn't PonyBoy just stay home because him and Darry don't get along? I think that even though Darry is rude to PonyBoy, I think PonyBoy still loves him. Especially after Soda told him "Listen, kiddo when Darry hollers at you... he don't mean nothin'. He just has more worries than somebody his age ought to. Don't take him serious... You dig Pony? Don't let him bug you. He's really proud of you 'cause your so brainy. Its just because you're the baby-I mean, he loves you a lot savvy?" On page 17. This shows how Soda and Darry are two different types of people. Soda is very mushy, selfless, and handsome in PonyBoys perspective and Darry in Pony's perspective is rude, not loving, and the oldest brother. Thats why it makes me wonder why PonyBoy is still has respect for Darry.

On this page Steve found Johnny's blue jacket on the floor. Then him and Pony boy ran across the road after seeing a hump. Luckly Soda got there to help but Johnny was in pretty bad conditions. This goes along with my thought about why the socs beat up the greasers so much. Because there is no reason that people should be split up because of who or what we are. A good comparison to this might be segreation because white people where higher up like the socs and the greasers where black people the people who get looked down apon.

I respect Johnnys decision here because nobody should treat a girl like they're a toy or like they are attracted to the dirty things dally was saying. The fact that Johnny took the risk of telling him to leave her alone is a very kind and respectful decision.

On this page of The Outsider we are reading that Darry is yelling at Ponyboy because Ponyboy had been jumped on his way home from the movies. But the other part is Sodapop trying his best to protect Ponyboy from Darry yelling but it doesn't work. As the text states, "Leave my kid brother alone, you hear? It ain't his fault he likes to go to the movies, and it ain't his fault the Socs like to jump us, and if he had been carrying a blade it would have been a good excuse to cut him to ribbons." But this didn't work as Darry said, "When I want my kid brother to tell me what to do with my other kid brother, I'll ask you kid brother."

On this page I wonder why they call Johnny a pet. Me personally, I believe that this would make Johnny even more depressed than he is since getting jumped and also his parents treating him absolutely horrible. As the text states, "His father is always beating him up, and his mother ignored him, except when she hacked off at something, and then you could hear her yelling at him clear down at our house." This is telling the reader how horrible parents Johnny had and what he went through every day he was at his house.

On this page I noticed something pretty crazy in my opinion. In the text it states, "But one night I saw Dally gettin' picked up by the fuzz, but he kept real cool and calm the whole time. They was battin' him for breakin' out the windows in the school building, and it was Two-Bit who did that." So after reading that I wonder why Dally did that because he had already been to jail and he didn't need to go anymore.

And you were asleep in the lot?PonyBoy, what on earth is wrong with you? Can't you use your head? You haven't even got a coat on." This is a start to a fight that will lead into the wrong direction. After Darry finished yelling SodaPop was trying to tell Darry to stop. But then Darry screamed at SodaPop which made PonyBoy snap and then Darry slapped him across his face. It makes me wonder why Darry would get so mad? He should never have hit him! It was the worst. I dont know how Darry could just hit his brother, after PonBoy ran out say he didn't mean to. I mean if he couldn't except PonyBoy saying it than PonyBoy shouldn't have respected his.

They didn't know what caused it but they knew they had to save the kids that were trapped inside. So they had to break a window, rush in then throw the kids out as fast as possible. As the text states, "The smoke filled my eyes and they started watering." This is when they first got in the church and were looking for the kids. But a little after that it had been too long and the roof had collapsed, which ended up by Johnny being hit by a huge piece of timber that seriously injured him. As the text states, "Then I hear Johnny scream, and as I turned to go back back for him, Dally swore at me and clubbed me across the back as hard as he could." This part is basically showing the part that Johnny was hurt, but Pony couldn't do anything about it even though he truly wanted to help him.

His eyes were closed, but when the door shut behind me he opened them, and I suddenly wondered if my own eyes looked as feverish and bewildered as his. Soda had a wide cut on his lip and a bruise across his cheek. There was a Band-Aid over Darry's forehead and he had a black eye. One side of Two-Bits face was taped up--- I found out later he had four stitches in his cheek and seven in his hand where he had busted his knuckles open over a Soc's head. They were lounging around, reading the paper and smoking¨

It seem like the gang got into a big fight and they are all hurt.

In this part of the book, it is when Pony Johnny and Soda had been sent to the hospital because of the whole church fire incident that had happened recently. We now know that Pony isn't injured bad, but we just found out that after the timber had fell on Johnny it broke his back. As the text states, "He was in critical condition. His back had been broken when that piece of timber fell on him." So after reading this, it's really horrible news, and they also don't know when he will recover from this.

In this part of the book Two-bit is hanging out with Pony and they are planning on going to the hospital. But on the way there, they were being followed by the Socs blue mustang. And when Two-bit and Pony had gone to a store or something and Randy had gotten out of the car, and then called Pony over to talk. But what I found interesting was when he said that he didn't like the violence and he was tired of it and wanted it to stop. As the text states, "I'm sick of all this. Sick and tired. Bob was a good guy." So after hearing this, I truly think that it's good to hear that from a Soc. And I also think that Pony is more on the side of not wanting to be violent, but he is just forced into it.

"I had to stay in bed a whole week after that. That bugged me; I'm not the kind that can lie around looking at the ceiling all the time." I think I can relate to this because I hate when me and my family just do nothing all day because its boring when you have nothing to do.

"Ponyboy, I asked the nurse to give you this book so you could finish it. It was Johnny's handwriting. I went

on reading, almost hearing Johnny's quiet voice. The doctor came in a while ago but I knew anyway. I keep

getting tireder and tireder. Listen, I don't mind dying now. It's worth it. It's worth saving those kids. Their

lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for. Some of their parents came by to thank me and

I know it was worth it. Tell Dally it's worth it. I'm just going to miss you guys. I've been thinking about it,

and that poem, that guy that wrote it, he meant you're gold when you're a kid, like green. When you're a kid

everything's new, dawn. It's just when you get used to everything that it's day. Like the way you dig

sunsets, Pony. That's gold. Keep that way, it's a good way to be. I want you to tell Dally to look at one.

He'll probably think you're crazy, but ask for me. I don't think he's ever really seen a sunset. And don't be

so bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot o f time to make yourself be what you want. There's

still lots of good in the world. Tell Dally. I don't think he knows. Your buddy, Johnny."

This is an important quote because it shows that Pony really misses Johnny because he was his best friend and now he is gone so he is really troubled and sad because he doesn't know who to talk to now

"Darry looked real worried. I suddenly realized that Darry was only twenty, that he wasn't so much older

that he couldn't feel scared or hurt and as lost as the rest of us. I saw that I had expected Darry to do all the

understanding without even trying to understand him. And he had given up a lot for Soda and me.

"Sure, little buddy," Darry said softly. "We're not going to fight anymore."

"Hey, Ponyboy"--- Soda gave me a tearful grin--- "don't you start crying, too. One bawl-baby in the

family's enough."

"I'm not crying," I said. Maybe I was. I don't remember. Soda gave me a playful punch on the shoulder.

"No more fights. Okay, Ponyboy?" Darry said.

"Okay," I said. And I meant it."

I feel that Darry and Pony have come a very long way from the beginning of the book.

Well, it's not that easy, is it, Soda?" But when I looked at Soda I stopped. His face was

white, and when he looked at me his eyes were wide with a pained expression. I suddenly remembered

Curly Shepard's face when he slipped off a telephone pole and broke his arm.

Why dont they talk about them?

On this page I read that Ponyboy was not doing that well in English. As the text states, "Now I was lucky to get a D on a composition." After reading this it actually surprised me a lot because as we know from previous chapters Pony was a great student and always had straight A's. His grades were also so good that he skipped a whole grade because he was so ahead and smart. But now after everything had happened there is obviously something wrong with Pony whether it was him overthinking or even how he was so sad.

On this page we are reading about how Soda is pretty sad more than he usually is. It's almost like he is in depression or can't get over something that has happened from the past. As the text states, "But when I looked at Soda I stopped. His face was white, and when he looked at me his eyes were wide with a pained expression." So now we know how he is feeling just from the way he looks, he is either shocked by something or very sad about something. Another quote from the text is, "It's the letter he wrote Sandy, Darry said without expression. Returned unopened." After hearing this, we now know the cause of Soda's mood and why he is feeling the way that he is.

It was the oddest feeling in the world. I didnt feel anything--scared, mad, or anything. Just zero."

In this paragraph I could tell how much PonyBoy has changed ever since stuff began happening, and ever since Johnny killed bob. Usually PonyBoy would be scared when Socs approached, now he didnt feel scared or anything at all. Which doent really surprise me
