There are a few behavior and mindset shifts we hope to make when educating in this group. The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) outlines different stratagies that can be pursued when addressing different groups.

In this group we hope to address a wide range of strategies to help with cyberbullying. In particular for this group, we hope students will be able to master skills such as empathy, effective coping skills, personal safety skills and Cultural awareness, sensitivity and responsiveness.

More info about ASCA can be found in the PDF above.

We educate in a group setting, if a student is not comfortable with this setting they may seek the help and resources of the school counselor.

Another aspect of this group that is necessary for it to work is ground rules. These must be implemented to help us educate more efficiently and allow participants an easier time to take in the information provided, without disturbances.

Participants must be mindful of others and how they may be experiencing struggles different from their own. We ask that outside conversation be held until after the lesson and that any questions needed to be asked, are to be asked after the material and lesson is over with, unless otherwise specified.

As a group there will be zero tolerance for any rudeness or aggression towards another student or students. If the school has any rules that need to be followed by us/ the students, they will be integrated into our own during the lessons.

Stage 1: During this stage "Storming/Norming" we expect there to be some conflict to arise due to the fact we are new and have not yet established trust. We hope to establish trust be giving participants time to ask questions and tell us and other participants how they relate to the material being taught. Lessons on empathy and how they view it and see it in everyday life could be used as one way to bond.
If a participant needs to address something confidentially then we will guide them to the school counselor to deal with that need. If a participate comes to us and discloses confidential material, we will immediately notify the school/necessary authorities.

Stage 2: During this time we will open up the discussion to members to have with and amongst us about cyberbullying. We aim to have a sense of cohesion and ability to relate to one another as they learn. As they learn we will have them provide feedback to one another about how they can help each other.

Stage 3: During the closure of this group we will have students comment verbally and in writing, what the most most impactful thing they learned was. Also we will ask them what is something they can now relate to other about though the experience of cyberbullying.

I believe the best leadership style in this situation would be "Participative" or "democratic" leadership. This leadership is not only very well balanced between speaker and participant, but it also works well with the age range presented in this group (ages 12-15).

This style allows for comments from both ends to be addressed and heard. However it is not lax enough to the point where members are deviating off topic.
