0:38- 2:22

Child A (wearing red shirt) uses a brown white board marker, writes a line on the board with his right hand. He uses his marker to then draw on a half circle to the stem making it a P. He then uses the marker to write a line through his P then scribbles over the entire P. He grabs the dry eraser with his left hand and uses it to erase the P by rubbing the eraser over his drawing. He then grabs the lid of his marker and puts it on the back of his marker and continues to draw. He draws an H and an A then a thick line next to that. He uses the dry eraser to wipe away his drawing with his left hand. He rubs it a few times then decides to spin the dry eraser over his drawing by grabbing the top of the eraser with his left hand and spinning it on the white board. Then he grabs the eraser with his left hand and firmly wipes away the rest of his drawing. Then he decides to add more to the other half of his white board where he has written Peter two times. He uses his right hand to write a circle around the Peter he wrote closer to him. The he draws a circle around the Peter above that one. Then he adds a line from the top of the circle to the bottom in between each letter in the word Peter that is farthest from him. Then he draws a big X over both of the words. He grabs the eraser with his left hand and uses it to rub his drawing away. Then he spins the eraser by gripping it from the top with his left hand.

He uses his hands to spin the eraser around and around, multiple times demonstrating his fascination with rotating the eraser. He shows his intrest in spinning by spinning it faster and faster with each try.

For an activity to extend the rotation schema I would suggest an activity where we create fake salads. I will cut up different pieces of green fabric to act as lettuce, then cut up red pieces if fabric to act as the tomatoes, then purple to act as red onion, orange for carrots. I will also add different assortment of beads to add texture to the salad. I will have white ones to act as feta cheese and red ones to act as grape tomatoes. I will lay each colour of fabric and beads in different bowls and allow the children to build their salads buy placing then into their own bowl. Then I will invite the children to throw their salad into a salad spinner and spin their salad to finish! This activity will allow them to watch the salad spinner spin their salad, based on how hard they push down on the top of salad spinner it will go faster or slower. They will learn how force creates momentum which makes their salad spin fast. They will also be encouraged to go home and try to make salads at home with family, encouraging healthy eating and room for open conversations about what they enjoy eating in their salads.

This experience is a guided experience as it has no end product, however it does have steps that need to be followed. It will have steps to be followed to complete the activity so it is guided.

To further extend the child's intrest in rotation I would suggest adding a new toy to the center called a whisper tilt and spin. This toy allows the child to sit cross legged on the wooden stool and spin by shifting the child's body weight back and forth. This will allow the child to feel the bodily sensation of spinning. It will allow the child to explore the concept of balance and how it can be lost by spinning too fast on the tilt and spin. It will allow the child to build core muscles and build coordination while understanding the mechanics of spinning their bodies.

This experience is open ended as it has no end product. The only goal of this experience is to allow the children to explore spinning themselves by using their body weight and core muscles to help themselves spin faster.

To further extend on the child's interest of the rotation schema I would suggest an activity where we explore windmills. First I would show the children a windmill that I have, I would allow them to see how I decorated it, how to make it spin (by blowing on it, I would allow the children to try if they would like to). Then I would show them that I have brought them all their own windmill. I would give the children paints, jewels, and stickers that they are able to add to their windmill to personalize it to their liking. Then I would invite the children to carry their windmill outside with us and allow them to pick a spot for it inside the play ground. The windmill will be an extension of our playground. The children will be able to revisit it every time we go outside.

This experience is a closed ended as it has steps that the children need to follow to get to the end product, however it allows the children to explore further then just the part where they decorate their windmills.

1) I will ask the children open ended questions about their salad such as "Why did you add the purple one? How will that make your salad taste?" This will allow the children to think more deeply about the reasoning behind their choices and urge them to use their critical thinking skills to respond to my questions.

2)I will ask the children to recall times in their past where their family had salad for dinner. I will ask what their family added to the salad, what they enjoyed most about it. This will build the children's memory and concentration on a subject.

3)I will scaffold the amount of support I offer to the children. I will first offer a lot of support in showing the children how to use the salad spinner. Eventually as they begin to understand the aspects of how it works I will take a step back and allow the children to figure it out for themselves, offering only my presence as support.

1) I will demonstrate how to use the spinning board. I will intentionally demonstrate to give the children understanding of how to grasp how this new device can be used. This will allow the children to easily understand how they can manipulate this new toy to explore the sensation of spinning.

2) I will be an active listener and listen to what the children are saying while playing with the board. I will watch them and smile to let them know that I am standing by to offer encouragement.

3)I will as well use reflective language to further engage the children in their investigation of the spinning board. I will make the children think deeper about their ideas by reflecting back what they say in questions.

1) I will use open ended questions while the children decorate their windmills. This will engage the children to personalize their windmills with purpose. I will allow the children to spark new ideas by asking them about their windmills and ask why they chose certain things to their windmills. Such as "Why did you choose this colour and not a different one?".

2)I will paraphrase what the children are saying throughout the activity. This will encourage them to know that I am listening to what they are saying and encourage them to continue sharing their ideas as I am showing that I am interested in what they have to say.

3) I will position the materials for decorating the windmills intentionally to invite the children to explore and choose items they might not have tried before. I will do this by laying out different colours of paint (neon, and pastels) and have different colours of jewels laid out to best entice the children to create something beautiful.
