Hyperparathyroidism is a condition when one, and sometimes more, of your parathyroid glands secrete too much parathyroid hormone. This can cause an increased amount of calcium being released from your bones into your blood, having the digestive tract digest more food than what you eat, and cause kidney stones. Hyperparathyroidism is normally caused by an enlarged gland. Treatment includes surgery to remove the enlarged gland, medications, or if it not very severe then just close monitoring.
