1. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?
My professional role would be the patient care that I am training for at the moment. The techniques and methods that are being taught are all included in my role as a physical therapist. With what I have learned, I have the clear responsibility to help my patient regain function. Beyond this, I am also tasked to help my patient emotionally because as a PT, I become part of their lives. I cheer them on and encourage them to improve themselves. I also push patients to be the best versions of themselves, albeit safely and rationally.

2. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Clarity would allow for effective communication among all team members, which I believe is very important in a clinical setting and even outside that. As a future physical therapist, I am tasked with helping my patient gain normal functioning. However, this is not the only aspect in their life. With the help of my team members, we are able to provide more holistic care, which is accomplished only if we know about the goals and actions of each person of the team. Clarity allows for this effective communication and through this, we are able to provide the best care for the patient.

What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

As a Physical Therapist the professional roles that we can contribute to the rehab team is to provide homeostasis of the patient physically, preserve and improve the quality of life. As physical therapists in the future we provide interventions not only for patients who has aches and pains but also, we provide treatment to clients who wants to increase physical strength and improve movement in their daily activities. Physical therapy can cover a lot of age groups, from pediatric until geriatrics, musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, neuroscience, community health, sports and many more. We diagnose and we create treatment plans to attain the goals of the patient. While the nonprofessional responsibilities of a physical therapy is to be a good listener, to empathize, to create hope for recovery, and to care for the patient. For me these are essential roles of a physical therapist for their patient no matter what the case is. To listen to their stories is already a way of empathizing and caring already, and for me the most fulfilling role as a physical therapist is to see the progress of your patient in each therapy sessions. To see them grow and become stronger in each session is the best feeling that we are part of the progress of them to reaching their goals again.

What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

The purpose of role clarity in a rehabilitation team is important because it is for the welfare of the main person in the team which is the patient. Role clarity is needed so that treatment of the patient will be clear and there is no redundancy of treatment. In a rehabilitation team there are a ton of health professionals involved. Based on the lecture of our speakers then is that “it takes a village to raise a child” and “it takes a community to build a community” likewise in a rehabilitation team each one has their specialty and plan in treating a patient. Thus, knowing the role of each member of the rehabilitation team can be of the welfare of the patient and the professionals in the team because they would know who can handle the type or problem of the patient with their high level of expertise. Also, each professional can share their expertise with the whole team the goal of continuous learning with the team is still evident. With the activity that was done by the group role clarity was evident to achieve progress and success and with this application to our future rehabilitation team we must be clear on each role so that we can attain success and with the best output contributed by each professional that they specialize.

What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

Sports Scientists are responsible for testing, training, nutrition and statistical analysis of the client’s performance. We have to administer different types of screening, assessments and tests to know the body condition of the client and their performance. With that, we could create a training program or give an exercise prescription based on the results from the tests. We can also collaborate with a nutritionist for a client's diet. This is important because a good diet can help provide energy that the client needs for the training, it’s one of the factors that helps enhance performance. As a sports scientist, we also have to monitor the client’s progress and performance, we can’t just say that they improve based on observation, we have to provide evidence such as descriptive statistics, graphs and evaluation based on normative data. It would help us to conduct a more thorough training program because we can see what skills we have to improve and maintain.

2. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

In a team, we have our respective roles that we need to do and each of the team members should know their part, what they have to do and their responsibilities in the team. Role clarity is important because we have to know the assigned task for us and what we have to focus on. It will make the delegation of tasks much easier and to avoid confusion within the team. We have to know the boundaries, the limits of our role to avoid conflicts within the team due to role conflict. To make an effective team, all the members should know and understand their roles because what they do will impact how the team performs. The strength of one member would be a big help for the other team members, especially in collaborative works. We would know whom to ask or to consult when it comes to cases that are within their expertise.

By sharing what I know, we will be able to identify our target goals for our client that not only focuses on a specific area of the client's skills but on a holistic point of view. It is also a part of my duty to provide updates or progress reports about our client so that we can target goals at the same pacing. More importantly, being a member of a team entails that I am able to trust my colleagues with their abilities in their specializations or fields. Trusting them to do their part allows all of the team members to focus on our own professions but also integrate our expertise in our chosen fields to provide the best possible treatment for our clients.

(2) What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity is vital to work efficiently within a team setting. By knowing our roles and responsibilities as an individual, we can all come together to fulfill these goals and work together to achieve our target goals for the client. Without role clarity, planning and execution of therapy would be difficult as conflicts could arise between the members of the team. By knowing our individual roles and fulfilling them, we will be able to respect each other's abilities in their chosen fields, allowing us to work more efficiently through the help of a harmonious work setting.

SLPs may assume the following roles: clinician, educator, administrator, researcher, community health worker, consultant/counselor, and a multidisciplinary team member. They can be found in a variety of settings such as in hospitals, clinics, in the academe, in research, or in community-based rehab.

2. This would allow them to use appropriately what the members have to contribute when handling a case. Moreover, defining each person’s responsibility would avoid conflicts that may arise when making a decision for a patient, as we would know who should be able to tell what Is best for a particular patient with specific needs based on the professional’s area of specialty. Ultimately, this will ensure that the patient receives the appropriate health care service that would address his or her needs.

1. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

I have learned in the webinar that the roles and responsibilities of an occupational therapist is to communicate and collaborate with the team members, the patient and their family members. OTs would also assess the contexts of the client in terms of the person, environment and occupations model. As a healthcare profession, it is important for OTs to help the clients achieve their goals and support them along the way. Lastly, OTs help to educate, encourage and empower clients to the best of their ability. As mabuting OTs, we do not only say we care, but we demonstrate that we care for our patients. OTs are also responsible for providing their clients with opportunities and in a holistic approach in addressing the needs of their clients.

2. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

A client in therapy may have multiple needs from various expertise, thus role clarity is important in a team for them to identify whom to seek expertise when it comes to a certain aspect of the client’s condition or case. In the interprofessional team, role clarity also enables the team to maximize their full potential when it comes to planning effectively, implementing and evaluating goals and services for their clients. Also, role clarity would show understanding and respect towards the roles and responsibilities of other healthcare professionals in the team. Role clarity is also important to avoid role overlap or conflicts.

1. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

In the webinar, I learned that one of the roles and responsibilities of an Occupational Therapist is to collaborate with the client, their families and other rehabilitation team members. It is important for OTs to use a holistic approach and a client-centered treatment plan in addressing the goals of the OT, the client and their families, and the other members of the rehab team. Lastly, OTs help in educating and advocating for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in our society. There is also a non-professional role and responsibility our field has and it is to be a Mabuting OT. Being an OT does not only mean being knowledgeable on various theories and concepts but also being a good person to your clients. You need to prioritize the well-being of the client and show them care while you are giving them a treatment session.

2. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Having role clarity is very important as this prevents conflict and confusion & overlapping of roles among the members of the team. It promotes accountability and delegation of tasks among team members. Additionally, clients may need various help from different professions and/or team members, thus having role clarity is vital so that one would know whom and where to seek expertise when it comes to addressing a specific client’s need or factors. It enables the team to work effectively and efficiently towards achieving their goals and their clients’. With these, having clarity in the roles of the different members help in improving the overall function and performance of the team.

1. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?
As a future physical therapist, the professional roles and responsibilities center on the patient’s wellbeing with the goal to achieve the highest form of function and improvement of quality of life. But before the treatment proper, a good subjective and objective assessment is important as well. In assessing a patient, we must extract as much information as we can to have a complete and accurate assessment since these will be used in the treatment phase. Educating the patient is also an important responsibility of a PT to achieve good compliance from the patient and for their own benefit in understanding their condition. More than this, we physical therapists also serve as emotional support for our patients as we journey with them through the struggles their conditions bring about.

2. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?
Role clarity is especially important when working with a team with different aspects to each member. Role clarity is defined as how much each member understands their individual roles, their tasks and responsibilities, and processes at work. It is understanding of what one needs to do as well as what is expected of them. Furthermore, the understanding of roles is not just limited to the individual's role but the roles of other members as well. This is important as it contributes to the productivity of the group as a whole and without it, miscommunication, confusion, and additional stress can occur within the group.

In additions, OTs utilized these occupations as therapeutic methods to rehabilitate, improve, or maintain skills needed by our clients for their engagements. As for the non-professional roles and responsibilities, we push for equality and occupational justice for the sake of the clients, and speak out of issues regarding inequality for the marginalized sectors of society, including OTs.

2.
