It was declared a special province in November 1902 before becoming a regular province on February 20, 1921, thanks to Republic Act No. 2964.

Parola Park

The main feature in this area is an ancient watchtower that allowed locals to prey on Muslim vintas. It was built in 1861 and is located at Lumang Bayan, Sablayan. It was outfitted with bells in 1896 to alert people of approaching assaults. Later, a church was constructed, which survived the weather for 10 years but is now in ruins. All that remains at a promontory to remind generations of the town's history is a cannon used to protect it

Mt Iglit

Mt. Iglit is a protected area on Mindoro that has been designated as a game sanctuary for tamaraws, a kind of wild animal found nowhere else on the planet. The tamaraw looks a lot like the Philippine water buffalo, sometimes known as the carabao. It is, however, smaller and has shorter horns that grow straight upwards in a V rather than bending wide open like that.

Ambulong island

Ambulong Island is one of three islands in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, with a total area of 3,000 hectares. White sand beaches, cliffs along pillars protruding out of the ocean, and underwater tunnels distinguish it. In some coves, there are coral gardens and exotic fish aplenty. The white sand beaches and coral gardens are breathtaking. A fishing settlement may be found on the island's protected side.

Ambulong Island also serves as a jumping-off place for diving at Iling Point, Baniaga Reef, Ambulong Bank, Dungan Reef, Sardines Reef, Apo Reef, and Manadi Island. By pumpboat, these dive spots are roughly an hour distant from the Caminawit Port.

With 7.2 percent of households and 10.6 percent of the population living in poverty, Oriental Mindoro has the lowest poverty rate. Occidental Mindoro, on the other hand, saw the greatest decrease in poverty rates among families and the general population, with 14.4 and 19.9 percentage points, respectively. With that being mentioned, there is still poverty present in this province and government corruptions are still visible. A way to lessen the poverty of the people living in the province of Occidental Mindoro is to eradicate first corruptions. People’s taxes should be given properly and should be used in a manner where it would be helpful to the people. SDG 1 aspires to eradicate poverty in all its manifestations across the world. Its goals include ensuring that everyone, especially the poorest and most vulnerable members of society, has equitable access to economic resources, basic services, property and land ownership, natural resources, and innovative technology. With proper allocation of goods, proper distribution of aids, and no corruption in the government, SDG 1 would be easier to achieve.

It is a three-day event that begins with the yearly celebration of Mindoro's blessings and showcases the province's cultural traditions and resources. "Saknungan" is a Mangyan word that translates to "bayanihan," meaning the spirit of collaboration, fraternity, and harmony in the workplace. The Mindoreos demonstrate this through their daily activities, particularly during the planting and harvest seasons. Street dancing and a procession are highlights of the three-day festival. Agro-industrial and techno trade fairs, a drum and bugle parade/contest, bikathon, Juego de Anillo, cultural dance competition, palo sebo, hulihan ng baboy, cultural presentation, awards, and fellowship night are among the other events scheduled.
