This took like...8 hours lol. My process was taking a character from a show that looks the most similar to me (facially) and trying my best to replicate it. I tried analyzing and fleshing out all the different types of components of what the show was known for and applying it to my drawings! I really enjoyed trying it out and learning how each style differs from one another. One thing I learned about drawing characters is the amount of work and detail it takes to keep it consistent. Overall, it was very fun!

My process for the challenge was first creating a self portrait of myself in my own style and then choosing a character that looks most similar to me or mashing together multiple characters from the show or game to create a character that looks like me. Instead of sketching, outlining, and coloring each one individually, I sketched everything first, then outlined everything, and lastly colored everything so I had the most consistency. I enjoyed seeing the characters come together in the end the most, it was really rewarding. One thing that I learned about drawing characters is that there's a lot of different way to do it. The thing that fascinated me the most about the differences between the styles was they way that each of them did line art. For example, Gravity Falls uses the same shape and weight line all across the characters with no tapering where as Pokémon uses lots of tapering and different weights.

In one cartoon there's a lot of shading, but another cartoon will only use a little bit a shading.

While working on each of the drawing styles I looked through a lot of the characters from their show/artist to get a grasp on how they draw the way they do. I really enjoyed working with not only different shapes and lines but I also really enjoyed matching the color palettes that the shows/artists often used consistently and they were uniquely different. Something I learned from this assignment is how much I actually enjoy drawing in these different styles. It noticed how drastically different each one can be and I really enjoyed thoroughly looking through each one to find their differences and similarities.

For the creation of these drawings, I mainly worked off of references, going bit by bit and overlaying my references to get the most accurate drawings possible. I have only colored one, because I realized that it would take far too long to color all six. I enjoyed getting it done, this kind of thing is not something I particularly enjoy. For me, this was mainly something to help me ease back into drawing on computer, and drawing neat lines. I think it has more or less accomplished that.

First off, this took me forever. Using the watch time of a podcast I was listening too, it took me almost 18 hours to finish. Damn I am slow at drawing... For every drawing I found one picture for a pose/angle reference and then many others to figure out the important aspects of each art style. One thing I enjoyed about the project was how relaxing it was. I put on a podcast and just enjoyed the calmness for a few hours each day. One thing I learned was how important smoothing and pressure was. By turning up smoothing I could get super clean lines that were not shaky. By controlling and modifying pressure I was able to create tapered and sharp lines. Finding the perfect balance of smoothing and pressure helped me emulate the different styles. ALSO another thing I learned from this was that a huge majority of animated characters have bangs. It was super difficult to find characters that did not have hair that covered their forehead in someway, random but weird.

Some characters took a while, because it was hard to get the style right or do the line work. I enjoyed drawing in a bunch of styles I like, and learning more about the components of them and how they work. One thing I learned about drawing characters is it can be very hard to get smooth lines, and keep consistency (especially for simpler characters, surprisingly enough, because it is more noticeable when you mess up).
