One of my biggest influence is my Geography teacher and she played a major role in my learning journey. She was welcoming and approachable, and I was able to build a positive relationship with her. While I struggled in the subject, I was comfortable asking for help whenever I needed it.

She also put in an effort is getting to know who I am outside of a classroom. This was very meaningful to me because being away from family and a minority in the school, having an adult who cares for me was very special. I am grateful for having a healthy, supportive learning environment which motivated me take responsibility of my own learning.

My work at a after school program and volunteering with many school aged children motivated me to apply for the BEd program. My favourite part was building relationship with the children and getting to know their interests. Seeing children grow and learn is extremely rewarding. As I interact with children, I always think back to my teachers who showed me the tremendous responsibilities of being an effective educator and the significant impacts they can have on students.

Inquiry is a mindset and an ongoing process. One question or wonder begins to develop into more questions or wonders and so it’s an never ending process. My inquiry has evolved and changed as I got to know my class better and learning their strengths and needs. Through inquiry, we create knowledge based on our wonders and we take action by putting the new understanding to test in our practices. Then we reflect on what we know and what we want to know more about. Teaching is inquiry as teachers are constantly growing in their practices and it is truly a life long learning process.

One of my strongest learnings this year is the meaning of being a teacher.
I learned about the complexities of teaching- beyond caring for students, teachers put in so much careful thought and planning into creating lessons, and ensuring that learning activities are engaging and meaningful, differentiated to meet students' needs and learning styles, are promoting students’ deep learning, and lesson material and content are meeting curricular competencies. There are so many layers to teaching and I am sure that I will discover many more as I progress in the profession.
Being a teacher is so much more involved than just the physical act of teaching. Being a teacher means being a role model and life-long learner.
