What is the problem

A very big problem in Sudan is that it is one of the major hosting countries. There was a 22 year civil war going on in South Sudan from 1983 to 2005, and because of that, for decades it is very easy for people fleeing war, hunger, and hardship. In the first 44 days of 2017, more than 100 thousand south sudanese people arrived in Uganda. There is also very little water in Africa because of the very dry climate. And because of that people are also fighting over water because everyone needs it to live. This is a problem because it is very hard for people to survive without water or food while traveling for a long time in the heat on their feet while they are fleeing from the fighting.

How is it affecting people and the community

It is affecting the community because people go to refugee camps to stay away from the war that is happening. There is very little food and water in refugee camps and they are really cramped. The world's largest refugee camp holds more than 270 thousand people. When a war was happening in Sudan about 2 million people in went to Uganda to refugee camps. More than 4 million people have lost their families due to refugees. This is a very big problem because about 60 percent of refugees in the camps are children. Also a lot of the children are orphans because they lost their families when they were fleeing the war. And it is very hard for children to survive when they are a lot weaker than most of the people. This is affecting the people and community a lot because the population is decreasing and less people are working because they are trying to go away from the fighting.

Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this

The world should be concerned about this issue the war that is going on and probably some countries in Africa have allies and those allies might have allies and it might become a whole world war. But that is probably not going to happen. It is also Africa's longest civil war going on for 20 years and it is doing a lot of damage to Africa. There are currently 25.4 million refugees around the world and over half of them are 18 years old or younger. Only about 12 thousand out of 1 million children survived their journey to the refugee camps. This is a problem because it is very tough for children to do this and later there will be a decrease in the human population.

How are people trying to help this problem

Luckily, there are people trying to stop this. A lot of people are setting up organizations to stop refugees in Sudan and one of them is called UNHCR and it stands for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Also some of the African governments are trying to work things out and come to a compromise which is good so the war will end and hopefully the refugee camps will end. Also people in the United States are bringing in people from refugee camps to help them and give them a “new life” sort of. I think that this is very good and it will affect a lot of people and help them a lot.

Bam. Boom. Pow. Gunshots! I immediately ducked and ran. I wasn’t near my family when this happened. It was hard to see from all the dust in the air. By the time I couldn’t hear anymore gunshots I took a break to sit down. There were other people with me but none were my family. I was hungry but I couldn’t see any food around. There were some people in my group but I didn’t know them that well. We all walked really far but I didn’t know where. One day I asked this woman where we were walking and she said to a refugee camp. She said that it would be safer
there and that it would be away from the fighting. Later that day the woman told me that there has been a 20 year civil war going on in Sudan. When we finally got to the refugee camp I knew that it was safer there but I didn’t want to be there. I didn’t know where my family was. It’s been a couple of months and the most people who I saw were children. I lost count at the end of the days and went to bed on a little blanket on the ground. I couldn’t stop thinking about where my family was. Would ever see them again?
