This picture is a representation of how big the importance of family is. This is because Francisco Luna gets up and 6am and doesn't get home until 7pm. He works in construction so usually he has to leave town and drive for hours and come back. That itself shows that he is driven by keeping his family stable and well. He has been doing this for years and has been faced with racist behavior. I hadn't known about it until a few months ago. This itself shows the determine and drive I had to obtain this certificate. To some this might be a a regular paper but to me it means so much more. This "piece of paper" make me work hard and as an ultimate goal to make my parents happy. From the countless morning tutorials to after school as well. Even after getting help with my studies in school I still have sports practice afterwards. It creates a grand feeling of accomplishment. More specifically it is all full of Mexican culture. Sadly growing up I never knew of the value of my background. You could say that I have never really appreciated it and had taken it for granted. Once I got older I understood how important it truly is. Not only do I come from a beautiful ethic background but the honor of being able to educate my friends that don't know is amazing.  About the food, the traditions, the events, etc. The fact that the community is mostly Mexican it brings us all together. As many know the biggest civil right movement in history took place. I was able to be a part of a protest in downtown Salinas as part of the "Black Lives Matter" movement. It was extremely important for me and my sister to take part in an event like this because we are very big on activism. As minorities its important to unite one another and let our voices be heard. One is never enough so we get 100+ to fight for justice. Peace, for the ones who need it the most.  They were heard but nothing much was done afterwards because the fight never ends. Although both of my parents are immigrants I wanted to focus on my mother a bit more. She immigrated to the United States when she was 18 and has lived here since. Living in the United States as an immigrant isn't as easy as it seems. These individuals get told negative things. The media also plays tribute into it by speaking on the behalf of politics. In reality immigrants are not rapists, aliens, thieves, killers. The poster shows the misrepresentation of Mexican people. These Mexican men are often seen as being lazy and drunk. Obviously this is not the case because one can drive down the street and see them always on the job. A big part of the false statements has been people that are in higher power. A lot of our people work in the fields and no one takes the struggles into consideration. The hot hours picking lettuce and strawberries is not easy. Bending down all day and being exposed to chemicals and so much more. For risking their health and putting the fruits and vegetables we eat on our tables deserves a lot more pay than what they get. The photograph represents myself breaking the stereotype. In high school I was a A-B student that was a part of the honor roll. For all four years I was on the swim team as a varsity athlete. I would go five days out of the week and would get home tired every single day. My junior year our team won the league championship. Additionally I was in the Save The Earth Club in which we had fundraisers as well as cleanups.
