Al-IHSAN

Definition : Ihsan is derived literally from the Arabic word حسن hasana which means to be good, to beautify. Hasan means suitable, beautiful, proper, or fitting or good. According to Ibn Manzur, Ihsan indicates the significance of benevolence, the performance of good conduct, and the act of mercy. Besides, The Oxford Dictionary defines benevolence as the quality of being well-meaning or kind. Ihsan in its technical meaning refers to doing what is beautiful and establishing perfection in life.

THE CONCEPT OF IHSAN IN THE QURAN AND HADITH

3 commands

-justice

-goodness

-giving assistance to relatives

3 Prohibition

-immorality

-wrongdoing

-enmity

a)Respect and obedience.

Muslim scholars and jurists unanimously hold that obedience to parents is wājib (obligatory) only in what is permissible - and not in what is forbidden or sinful. The Prophet S.A.W. said: There is no obedience to the created in the disobedience of the Creator. The Qur´ān also highlights one’s treatment towards the non-believer

parents in Sūrah Luqmān; 31:15,

“But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly.”

b)Well treatment

The Qur’an emphasizes in detail how one should treat parents with respect, especially when they become old, weak, and emotionally sensitive. Among the divine instructions are:

Do not even say “Ugh” to them — as a sign of displeasure, anger, or contempt (Qur’an 17:23).

Do not scold them — “wa lā tanharhumā” (Qur’an 17:23).

Speak to them with respect — addressing them with soft, loving, and gracious words (Qur’an 17:23).

Lower the wing of humility before them out of mercy — “wa-ikhfiḍ lahumā janāḥa al-dhulli mina al-raḥmah” (Qur’an 17:24).

c) Manifestation of Ihsan

Abu Ya‘la Shaddād ibn Aws (RA), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Verily Allah has prescribed Iḥsān (excellence, perfection) in all things. Thus, if you kill, kill well; and if you slaughter, slaughter well. Let each one of you sharpen his blade and let him spare suffering to the animal he slaughters.”

(Reported by Muslim)

Iḥsān is prescribed in all aspects of life — excellence, perfection, and kindness must be reflected in every action.

Killing well — means carrying out an act without cruelty, avoiding unnecessary pain or torment.

Slaughtering well — signifies showing mercy and compassion even to animals.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE JUDGEMENT DAY

They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?

During usrah session, I met many new friends from various courses. We shared stories, laughed together, and it had a positive impact on my life here at CFS. I also learned a lot of new knowledge from our usrah assistant, Sister Adrianie, which encouraged me to explore and understand more deeply the knowledge being taught. In my opinion, usrah activities are very important for us because they can enhance our understanding and knowledge of religion, while also strengthening the bonds of brotherhood among usrah.

Her ability to convey knowledge so effectively and sincerely has been a true inspiration to us all.

I feel incredibly blessed to have crossed paths with such wonderful new friends. My hope is that the insights shared 'from heart to heart' during our sessions will serve as a catalyst for us to remain steadfast (istiqomah) in our pursuit of becoming better versions of ourselves.
