The power of the branch runs through the President who is the Commander of Chief of the Armed Forces. The President is also in charge of enforcing laws (Under Article II ) created by the legislative branch (Congress). The President has the power to veto or sign the legislation from Congress. Congress can override a Veto with 2/3rd vote from both the House and the Senate. One difference between the branches is the legislative and executive branch are elected while the judicial is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Bill of Rights were important for the people so they did not feel controlled by a king or president. Of course one of the most important amendments is the first amendment, what the US represents to the world. (As an immigrant, this was the attraction for my family to move here) What the American "Dream" is based off on. The first amendment protects the freedom of speech, press, and religion. Another important amendment is the fourth amendment. Which prohibits the government from performing unreasonable searches and seizures. It gives a form of privacy to the American people from the government searching their homes, cars, and belongings. Textbooks over the years have highlighted this as a good thing when in reality, there is a growing support to change so there is no life tenure for federal judges and there is a 18-year tenure instead. Physical and mental health of judges is the leading cause for this proposed change. Another change and one that we hear about all the time during presidential elections is a change to the electoral college. Many people feel that it is unfair when a candidate wins the popular vote but does not win the election because of the electoral college.
