Intertextuality

Intertextuality is used in the advert through the use of a song that Audrey Hepburn sang in a movie that she starred in (Breakfast at Tiffany's) in 1961 called 'Moon River'. The song creates a sense of nostalgia for older viewers as it reminds them of Hepburn's glory as an actress back in the day.
The setting is in Italy and looks similar to the setting of 'Roman Holiday' - a movie that she starred in in 1953. The look alike in the Galaxy advert is wearing a dress that looks almost exactly like the one Hepburn wears in the black and white film.

Stereotypes

Stereotypes are used in an interesting way in the advert. In the beginning, both genders are fitting their stereotypical roles - the girl is in trouble and the boy rescues her. However, the advert takes an unexpected turn when the girl orders the boy to drive her and sits behind him, as if he's a chauffeur. This goes against the gender roles as women were seemed to be reliant on men and that they were in charge; the fact that she sits behind him, relaxing and eating chocolate, tells us that she's in control, not him.

Target Audience

The target audience is older women. This is due to the older generation knowing more about Audrey Hepburn, therefore the wave of nostalgia would affect them the most.
Furthermore, Hepburn starred in mostly romantic comedies, something that women are stereotyped to enjoy more. The setting of a romanticised Italy further supports this.
