A lot of the linguistic languages are endangered. languages that are not endangered are often in more globalized and dominance areas around the world. like big cities, or major countries. Linguistic languages can vairy from regions such as Africa's, Americas, Pacific Islands. All of the regions show language variation. In some of the regions there is one language that is more dominate than the others. Big globalized and urbanized countries will have language variation. which may cause endangerment to the smaller less vocalized languages

One threat that is contributing to diminishing linguistic languages is cultural influencers. When smaller less known cultures and regions start to see more dominate and bigger cultures, they are influenced by wanting to become like them. especially with technology and internet these days, it is easier for people to see the main cultures and their differences from their own. When other cultures start wanting to become like main ones, the smaller cultures will start to become endangered and or become extinct

A factor that can contribute to preservation of languages is modern day internet and technology. Using modern day technology and internet allow different communities and endangered languages to get themselves out there to grow more and expand their culture. Technology helps virtual cultures and others connect to each and learn different types of languages around the world. The TED talk said that when learning different languages and trying to get children or others around you to learn it is good to speak to them in that language or use that language frequently around them.

Aleecia Corley

Linguistic diversity is very uneven around the globe, however most are severely endangered or dormant due to factors like cultural and linguistic assimilation, globalization, and increasing reliance on languages like English to communicate with other nations and communities. This is shown by a lack of native languages in 1st world countries like the United States, Australia, and much of Canada, as well as a higher dominance of native languages in 3rd world countries, where globalism hasn't reached yet, and where self-reliance is extremely important.

One threat contributing to the diminishing linguistic diversity is assimilation. Native communities are often impoverished, and some affected families will immigrate to other areas like Europe, the United States, urban areas in their own countries, and to succeed in any of those areas, you have to learn the dominant language. These native immigrants will then have children, who will grow up to learn and identify with the culture around them, and ultimately their native culture will be erased.

One factor contributing to the preservation of languages is activism. The more people advocate for protecting these languages and making native reservations better places to live, the less likely these native families will be to leave, and the less likely they are to assimilate with the dominant culture. Activism also promotes the documentation and recording of native languages, so that even if the native speakers of a language die or assimilate, there's still evidence of the language and the people that spoke it.

1.There are many linguistic languages that are endangered. The languages that aren't endangered are normally in highly populated countries, religions etc. These linguistic languages are all around the world in places such as Africa and the pacific islands. In these regions where there are many different languages that are more popular than others causing for endangered languages.

2.One main threat that is contributing to the diminishing of linguistic diversity would be cultural assimilation. I think this because when we see celebrities or influencer post about something we don't have but they make it seem so good we end up wanting it. The same thing goes for language when people in all these major developed cities speak on language or when they travel place trying to teach those people that language it will never disappear which will make people forget about the lesser-known languages.

3.One factor that could contribute to the preservation of a language could be continuing to pass it down. I say this because I know that in some cultural growing up you might speak your native language and the language your around but when you get older that can get lost. For example, if your parents are Haitian but you were born in America when you grow up you might speak creole and English. When you grew older to having kids you should teach them so they can pass it down so it would not be an endangered language.

A. The Linguistic Diversity of languages tend to be more endangered in places where there are multiple languages. The main areas with languages that are endangered is in Africa, the Pacific Islands, and South America. Countries that have less linguistic diversity have less endangered languages. A large portion of endangered languages happen to be near the equator which could be because large populations live there because the climate is more ideal. So languages tend to be centered around that factor.

B. A threat contributing to the diminishing linguistic diversity is globalization. By spreading the English language or other languages across the world through media including the internet, the usage of the native language in the area dies out to larger common languages. This is because when large languages are spread it is often that those languages are the languages used in work and a large part of the modern country. This forces people to become inattentive to their original language for the sake of the common language that is used for work or larger opportunities.

C. One factor contributing to the preservation of languages is the passing on of the language through generations and cultural communities. Efforts made by remaining speakers of the community has kept languages alive by creating methods such as cards or through social media to interest others in the language. In the TED talk "Back to the Future of Endangered Languages", Colleen Fitzgerald states that the best way to learn a language is in the home. Languages are also being passed on through parents and grandparents to children increasing the number of speakers.

                                        -Lera Lanigan

There are a lot of the linguistic languages are endangered. Some languages that are not endangered are often in more populated and developed areas around the world, such as like big cities, or major countries. Linguistic languages can be different depending on the regions such as Americans, Africa’s, Pacific Islands. All of the regions show language variation. In some regions there is usually one language that is more widely spoken compared to the others. When it comes to globalised and urban countries will have language variation. which may cause endangerment to the smaller languages that aren’t as spoken compared to the more spoken languages.

One threat that is contributing to diminishing linguistic languages is cultural assimilation. When minor communities get influenced by dominant cultures then their language usually changes to the language of the dominant culture. This can be caused by many different factors such as through popular cultures or social media. As people learn and adopt the new language there old language becomes extinct since less and less people are speaking it.

One factor that can contribute to preservation of languages is activism. When more people support and protect these languages and create a better place for native reservations to live there would be a less likelihood of native families leaving. This would cause a less likelihood of them abounding their culture and changing it to a more dominant culture. Activism would also promote the documentation and recording of native languages so if and when the language dies it wouldn't be forgotten and would be apart of history.

Linguistic diversity is highest in areas like Central America, South America, and West/Central Africa. This may be a result of the isolation of certain cultures, which is why many of these languages are also endangered. With English becoming the lingua franca of the world, these languages become endangered as people from these areas start speaking other languages like English, Spanish, or French to have more access to opportunities like education and jobs.

One threat that contributes to diminishing linguistic diversity is the lack of young speakers. In endangered languages, many of the speakers are elderly and may not be teaching the children in the home their language. As a result, speakers of that language will eventually die off, leading to the extinction of the language.

One factor contributing to language preservation is by putting programs in place to help revive these languages and help them to survive. For example The Cherokee Language Program with Apple, Microsoft, and Google, allows users to communicate in the Cherokee language on their phones. This modernization in the way the language is used can help younger learners who are learning the language incorporate it into their everyday lives. It connects the traditional language with modern communication methods.

Zora Mbongwo

Linguistic diversity is unevenly used around the world. Most of the worlds languages are endangered, severely endangered, or dormant. 3rd world countries such as Nepal, Chad, and Nigeria contain the majority of the endangered languages. While, 1st world countries such as the USA, Canada, Norway, and Spain contains the top 30 languages spoken. However each country and their regions can vary with the languages spoken.

One threat contributing to the diminishing linguistic diversity is cultural assimilation. People who live in 3rd world countries often live in poverty and want to live better lives. They may immigrate to 1st world countries, such as the US where they would need to learn English to get jobs and fit in. Once they settle they may have children. The children would be raised with a greater presence of English speakers. The children would learn less of their mothers/fathers tongue and more English. This would repeat until the language of the immigrant would be lost to assimilation.

One factor contributing to language preservation is education. It may be through the internet, or through activism, even to a family member. People who do know a language can educate people about the language to keep it alive. Someone on Tiktock could inform someone about an almost extinct language, such as Ulwa. An activist could inform and educate someone about a language and slowly bring it to life. Programs can inform people of these dying languages and bring them back to life.

1.

Linguistic diversity is unevenly distributed across the globe, with regions such as the

Pacific Islands, Africa, and the Americas exhibiting particularly high levels of language

variation due to historical isolation and cultural diversity. However, many of these

languages face endangerment due to factors such as globalization, urbanization, and the

dominance of major world languages. Endangered languages are often found in areas

where smaller minority languages aren’t being oppressed by more dominant ones,

threatening their survival and cultural heritage.

2. One threat contributing to the diminishing linguistic diversity is cultural assimilation and

popular culture. When minority communities are subjected to dominant cultural

influences, their languages often face pressure to conform or assimilate to the language

of the dominant culture. This can occur through various mechanisms such as social

media representation, educational policies, and social norms. As individuals within these

communities adopt the dominant language, their native language slowly goes away,

leading to its eventual decline or extinction. As people slowly let go of their mother

tongue, the only ones who do are the people of older generations who still know their

native language.

3. One factor contributing to the preservation of languages is language revitalization

efforts within communities. Language revitalization helps reversing language decline and

promoting the use of endangered languages. These efforts often involve community-

driven activities like language immersion programs, cultural events, and more

educational materials in the endangered language. Also, government support can

provide crucial resources to these revitalization efforts. By helping communities to

reclaim their language, language revitalization efforts play a vital role in preserving

linguistic diversity and cultural identity for future generations.

These places are also where many of the worlds endangered languages are located, while areas that mainly use the worlds most globalized languages such as North America and Europe have much less endangered languages.

One of the threats contributing diminishing linguistic diversity is globalization. As the worlds largest languages such as English and Spanish become more important to learn to take advantage of opportunities for those in the less developed areas that have high linguistic diversity, native languages lose priority. The spread of global languages to underdeveloped countries causes people facing little other choices to learn these languages in hope of increasing their chances of getting a better education and job. This furthers the spread of major languages leading to a cycle in which native languages are forgotten in favor of languages that can make it easier to obtain opportunities.

One factor contributing to the preservation of languages is activists who bring attention to smaller languages. With more activists helping individuals who speak dying languages and garnering attention for these speakers through social media, people are encouraged to pass on native languages.

1-Linguistic diversity is unevenly distributed across the globe with some regions like Africa or America showing more language variation. However, most languages have become endangered or dormant due to globalization, language assimilation, and English taking over as a dominant language. Endangered languages are often found in areas where major languages are spoken. We can tell this because areas like the United States and Canada are English dominant and have more endangered languages, while in other non-English dominant countries there are less endangered languages.

2-One threat contributing to diminishing language diversity is globalization. As English, or other major languages, are spread throughout the world using TV or the internet, native languages in the area will die out to the major language. This diminishes language diversity because smaller languages are being abandoned in favor of larger languages. This could be because people want to learn the larger language so they could find jobs easier and be able to communicate with others easier.

3-One factor that is contributing to the preservation of languages is when people pass down their language to younger generations. When parents teach their kids their native language it makes it so there are more people who speak that language, which helps preserve the language. These kids could now teach their kids their language and so on. Speaking the language at home and often can help make sure that the native language is not forgotten and taken over by English. Language can be preserved through passing it on through generations of family.

Katy Reiter

1.) Linguistic diversity is distributed unevenly across the globe. With this distribution we can see a lot of variation in language in parts of the world. For example we tend to see a lot of language variation in parts of the world such as South and North America, Africa, South East Asia, And in Australia. In these spreads of languages we can see many of the languages face endangerment. The languages that are endangered in these parts of the world and in many other locations tend to be endangered since the Dominance of other languages are causing assimilation due to more globalization and urbanization.

2.) One threat that we typically see diminishing linguistic diversity is cultural assimilation. As a culture is a assimilated many traditions, foods, language, and way of life is dissipated by a more prominent culture. We can see a lot of the cultural assimilation today as many of the worlds major languages are causing cultural assimilation by globalization and urbanization.

3.)A factor that can help preserve a language can be the use of digital technology. This technology can be used to help preserve a language by making the language available to more people and making it easier for youth to learn the language it can also help preserve a language as the technology serves to archive the language essentially freezing the language in time as the native speakers die off. However it tends to be more useful to have the language taught to the youth while the native speakers are still alive so that the language can adapt to include more words for newer things.

A. Regions such as the Pacific Islands, Africa, and north and south America show a lot of language variation. However, alot of these languages are at risk of being endangered because of factors like globalization, urbanization, and the dominance of other languages. Endangered languages are typically found in areas where major languages are less popular and are concentrated in areas with countries that have a lot of different languages (more linguistically diverse). Countries that tend to be more diversified and have been around longer have more endangered languages as older or native languages that were once spoken in that country eventually go extinct.

B. One threat that is contributing to decreasing linguistic diversity is globalization. As English and other languages are spread around the world through immigration, tv and social media lessens the number of people learning and using their native language. As languages become more globalized, they become more important to build a better life and grow through better education, etc. This can kind of lead to neglecting or abandoning their first language and can even cause the language to become isolated or even extinct as it continues to happen.

C. A factor that helps with language preservation is passing down the language and teaching it to the newer generations. Speaking the language more often, around the house and around others (really in your everyday activities) can really help spread the language, (more examples given like these in the ted talk video). Another factor that is contributing to the preservation of languages is documentation. This preserves languages (whether digitally or on paper) by really keeping track of the details of the language and studying it for a deeper understanding.

Linguistic diversity has uneven distribution across the world. Areas like Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands are especially diverse. Areas with less diversity tend to have less endangered languages. Ethnically diverse countries with populations that have settled for longer have more endangered languages, as they are spoken less and less over time.

Globalization is a large contributing factor when it comes to diminishing languages. The spread of a certain language and culture will lead to assimilation and endangerment of an ethnic language.

One factor contributing to the preservation of ethnic languages is documentation. Because most ethnic/endangered languages are only spread orally, documentation will help preserve it, whether it be digitally or physically.

Linguistic diversity is unevenly distributing across the globe, with some regions having a variety of languages while others face severe endangerment. They show how linguistic diversity correlates with biodiversity, emphasizing the importance of preserving both. The talk emphasizes the urgent need to document and revitalize endangered languages to safeguard cultural heritage and knowledge for future generations.

One significant threat contributing to the diminishing linguistic diversity is language displacement due to globalization and cultural homogenization. As dominant languages spread through media, education, and economic activities, indigenous and minority languages face pressure to adapt or be replaced. This process often leads to language shift, where speakers abandon their native tongues in favor of more widely spoken languages, resulting in the loss of linguistic diversity.

In the TED talk "Back to the future of endangered languages", the speaker discusses the role of technology as a crucial factor in the preservation of languages. They highlight how digital tools, like language documentation software and online language learning platforms help communities to record and transmit their language to future generations. Also, social media platforms and digital communication allow speakers of endangered languages to connect with each other. The speaker also mentions the importance of digital archives, where linguistic data and resources are stored and made accessible for research and revitalization efforts. Technology helps preserve languages so younger generations can use them to learn their native language.
