Think about if they should be given the choice to contribute their thoughts and have a say in what they want to learn. Currently teachers are given flexibility on how they want to teach the curriculum, and even so, teachers are constrained on what they have to teach. At the bottom of the chain, students have a lesser say. We see the rise of a new language in learning/educational settings. 
For example: 
students, children adults --> learners
teaching --> facilitating learning 
schools --> place of learning 

Biesta sees a problem in this.. 
We want children to not just learn, but to learn something for a reason from somebody! Although a school is a place of learning, what exactly are we learning..? It's not enough to just learn..

Biesta believes the following three domains work together to answer the question of "What is Education?" The three domains may not always work well together, and may even be conflicting, but they are essential in a person's education.

The three domains are:
Qualification: The acquisition of knowledge & skills.

Socialization: Learning to do what/how others are. Being a part of society and its culture and tradition

Subjectification: Formation and transformation of the person. Being more autonomous in how one thinks and act. Almost like the opposite of socialization
