I completed my full semester placement at Youthdale Treatment Centre in Toronto, which is a Live-in treatment mental health facility for young people ages around 12-24. I was part of the child and youth care team that provided support and therapeutic care within a residential setting. During my placement, I worked between the 3 units which are: ASU, StepupStepdown, and TAU, where I supported daily programming, therapeutic activities, and routines. The primary clientele I worked with were young people experiencing mental health challenges including; emotional regulation difficulties, trauma-related experiences, and/or with diagnosis. Many of the young people here require structured support, co-regulation, and relational approaches to help them navigate daily functioning and treatment goals. My role involved building therapeutic relationships, supporting group and individual programming, and collaborating with staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment for young people.
