I felt overwhelmed by the situation , I didn't understand how to teach my students without going to face to face classes . I assumed the responsibility of conducting tutorials . I began to communicate with the students by whatsapp and email and I sent them jobs but I also felt that I didn't have specific hours and I had no privacy in this way . It was so hard and weird at the beginning, nobody could ever imagine that something like this could happen, the whole educational system was changing not by option, just because it had to, as I had to as well. It took a long time for me to get along with this challenge, and I'm still learning and experimenting new stuff all days, the fact that we couldn't see each other face to face and speak fluently hit me the hardest way. When you teach a foreign language being able to speak in front of your students and being able to hear them practicing and repeating is almost everything, so we all had to seek new ways of certain and correct communication, acquiring skills social media, computers, etc. On the other hand, many families who haven't got resources to participate in this new pandemic way of teaching/learning found it really chaotic, and that also was so disappointing, we weren't prepared to face something like this, neither them, the families, nor the government.

So, I started making and sending videos talking and explaining my classes, trying to make the things a little bit easier for them. I can't deny that it was hard to deal wth some of the new technologies and websites, like different classrooms online or getting used to google drive and all its functions, but other social media or apps we have been working with to interact or comunicate each other (teachers, students and families) such as whatsapp, gmail, and facebook were and are simple to use, beacuse we employ them all the time. Eventhough, through all the conectivity and the new technologies the toughest task was getting in touch with the families and students. Each and every family have individual schedules, and it gets harder if they have only one celphone or computer in the house.

Negative things that we have to consider

Effect of the pandemic on the education of innumerable learners

· Existent inequalities: Many people (Low income students) don’t have even access to technological devices, or to the internet, which are vital for remote learning and move online, therefore learning and development have been interrupted for many students in the world affecting the development of many child. Countless students haven’t been online attending lessons, engaging with remote learning with the same kind of engaging that we hope for. They are the victims. They have been put on the bigger disadvantages because of the pandemic.

· This lockdown forced many students/teachers to adapt to a reality they were not used to very quickly, even with the lack of support

· The length of lesson times: Numerous students have shorter lessons and that has had a huge impact on the development of the individuals

The challenge that is ahead of us is to breach the gap between this situation and an inclusive learning reality

In my opinioin the greatest test will be how to re-acquire all the knowledge that must had been given during the pandemic, especially for all those students whom have had null interactions or comunication relative to the lessons, the families have now such a important role. Furthermore, what will the goverment do to guarantee the resources of the low income students and families for them to have acces and finally move online, the education shall be available and equally accessible to everyone. Also the hardest part from now on, in terms of teaching properly, consist in how to resume the most important topics in shorter lessons, wich content or activities will have priority? why?. These are all things we must consider in order to walk over the right path.

I agree with most of my mates or what it happened to them as regards teaching in a different way. At first it was pretty difficult but I think that I could overcome all the difficulties that this new teaching - learning process presented. It made me learned as well as acquire new tools to make my lessons catching. What I appreciate the most is the support of the headmistress of the institute where I work. This has been indispensable in this context. In my opinion, from this situation, we have adopted a new methodology that has come to last for ever, for instance the flipped classroom.

I changed all the activities, as well as the lessons. Sometimes it was difficult because the only ones who could connect to the meetings, had their camera off. It was like talking alone. I found many tools to keep them moving, talking, and funny activities to make them turn their camera on. It was very difficult for all teachers to adapt to a totally new and challenging teaching method, especially in those contexts where, unfortunately, due to different socio-economic realities, the same opportunities were not guaranteed for all students. Teaching from home, in this case a foreign language, was not easy at all. The fact of having to teach new learning content through a paper that was then handed over to the families so that they could carry out each activity and then be corrected was very complicated, since a consolidation of what was taught was not always achieved. Working with families, maintaining communication 24/7, was totally new, with good results in some cases and with little predisposition in others. My notes on what I found more important from the interview:
- We're now in a better position to use technology for language learning.
- There are still large digital gaps and people do not have the Internet to connect.
- It's been a huge mindset shift and the teachers went from "can't" to "can" regarding technology, which is an amazing achievement.
- In certain cases, pandemic forced students to adapt to a reality to which they were not used to and had to do so very quickly. Teachers also had to adapt very quickly in many cases due to lack of support.
- There have been many thousands of students who have given up on absenteeism. One of the most critical opportunity gaps is unequal access to the technology devices that are vital for remote access.
- The existing inequalities regarding education have been exacerbated because of the pandemic.

When this pandemic started, I thought it would last fifteen days. That using facebook to send activities was the only task because it was for a short period of time. But then, everything went worst and worst.
Every time I used my computer at home, I felt guilty for those who couldn't connect or for those who weren't in the same conditions (social and economic). Now that we are back, now that we are at school, we can see how the differences became bigger and bigger. Students need to be educated and they need to interect, not only with teachers but also with their mates. They lost knowlegde, they lost some relativities. And it is hard to know where to start.

This 2021 poses many uncertanties on teachers. Although there are expectations on having a better teaching and learning process based on all the drawbacks faced last year, there are still many limitations that cause a re-thinking effect, for instance thinking how to bridge the gap on those who don`t have much technological access. Another challenge is getting students feel motivated to learn, making them more aware of the benefits and relevance of learning during the pandemic process. I believe that families play an important role on this positive learning attitude from students. Teachers have the hard work of estabblishing a connection cannal between them and the students to garantee an optimised communication that will surely contribute to students' learning well-being.

That made me learned about video calls apps and interactive materials among others. that learning moment was quick and collaborative as all teachers were in the same situation. At first It wasn`t easy, but then it was "POSSIBLE" and that became a motivation for me. Teniendo en cuenta el podcast:
- se generò un tremendo progreso bastante rápido básicamente en quienes dominaban las tecnologías y quienes tenían acceso a internet. (efectos externos)
- hoy por hoy estamos mejor posicionados respecto al uso de tecnologías.
- sin dudas todos como educadores somos y seremos: longlife learners, con gran capacidad de adaptarnos a los nuevos desafíos.
- respecto a efectos negativos, hubieron muchos alumnos quienes no pudieron adaptarse y su proceso educativo fue interrumpido. (básicamente en muchos casos por no tener acceso a internet o equipos digitales necesarios para a educación remota).
- aun seguimos en una situación compleja (tanto para alumnos como docentes) hábitos han cambiado, atención, recursos, desinterés, etc.
- un gran desafio a afrontar es poder lograr una verdadera inclusión, educación para todos.

I agree with my classmates in the fact that it was a very difficult year, specially for education, since we lost that face-to-face element that helped us asses our students when they had any difficulty in the learning process. But something I have read in the text and that caught my attention was the fact that in england they oppened schools for those students with no internet at home. In my school the principals decided to do leave the internet signal open for those students who needed to download material form the cloud and I think that was a little step to try integrate every one during the pandemic.

Something interesting was the fact that I thought I was really good at the use of technology, since I used to prepare classes with power point, using the proyector in class. And I still remember the moment when principals said "we need to work online", I felt like "I can handle this", but at the begining i couldn't. I tried to make classes as similar as they were in school, but soon I realized that I needed to change everything. My clases were becomming more and more brief, trying to help students asimilate the new language in a virtual context (taking into account that most of them never worked with a second language). Two of the most important Ideas I can take from this podcast are:

According to the text, I think that this and the coming years we will have a great challenge with our students’ education.

As far as I have read and analized, I definitely think that SCHOOL is essential for everyone, not only to study and learn contents but also to socialize, interact and acquire skills and abilities necessary for our development in society.

The most important aspect we have to take into account in our back to school period is to try to priorize those students who haven´t had the opportunity to connect with virtual school due to different reasons, especially economic ones.

It’s vital to reorganize and adapt the contents to their reality so as to guide and help them with their education.

It was very difficult for me to work from home. I had a lot of students who didn´t have access to the Internet or didn´t even have interest in connnecting.

Luckily, in my school we work together with my colleagues so that was really helpful to me.

We had to change our way of planning lessons and the way of selecting the material and activities, that was really a great challenge. The most difficult part was to prepare material with a detailed explanation of every content, examples and translations to help those students who were not able to connect to classes.

Firstly, I personally believe that from every situation, you learn. Having had the opportunity to try new ways of teaching made me discover that there were a lot of tools being around us in our everyday life but that we didn´t use them at all.

Secondly, it is important to show our students that organizing their time to decide what to study and when to study is a new ability they are incorporating to their skills.

It was a great challenge for me to use new technologies as I was not used to use them. I had to investigate on the Internet, watching tutorials, asking mates and trying hours and hours to find new ways of connecting with my students.

Apart from the institutional forum where we had to upload assigments regularly according to the periods established by the institution, I created Classroom for every course (I have 16 courses from 1st to 6th year) and I also created Whatsapp groups to be in contact with them more regularly, sending them explanations, videos, activities, etc.

Luckily in our school we had freedom to choose the tool we considered more appropiate for each course, our needs were listened and we received support all the time.

After listening to the podcast, I agree with the idea that remote learning and teaching has not been easy, both for students and for teachers. That is because we had to adapt very quickly to a reality we were not used to.

When we came back to school in March, we had to face another problem: shorter lessons. That meant a reorganization of the contents.

Even though we are now able to see our students inside the classroom where we don't need any technology to communicate with each other and where it is easier to help them understand the topics we are dealing with, there are still a lot of problems that the hybrid modality poses. For example, it's really hard to keep students' motivation towards learning, since the way we have to teach is constantly changing. One day we are at school, and on the next day we might all be isolated for one or two weeks and we have to depend on technology once again. The students who don’t have access to the necessary resources to keep up with virtual lessons might feel completely lost and frustrated once we go back to school, since they may feel they have been lagging behind and it is hard to catch up with the topis dealt with. I think we need to keep on thinking of what to do when facing this type of situation.}

After a hard 2020 we are now going back to "normal" at schools and some of the ideas mentioned in this text have been applied. We are still dealing with a dynamic situation and trying to adapt to the changes.

-There are positive and negative points to bear in mind.

It was a nice challenge since learning about using new technologies to improve as teachers is always welcome.
I learnt to use different apps and the different ways to make a presentation. I also got more involved in the use of platforms for teaching and meeting the students and colleagues.

As most of my colleagues state, last year was extremely difficult for all of us. After reading the text, I can say there's no doubt this pandemic has left us with several social inequalities. A lot of students had no access to education due to different circumstances, such as lack of internet connection or technological devices. That's why 2021 also represents a real challenge. As teachers, we try to integrate the knowledge Ss were expected to attain last year with what they need to learn this present year. This has been quite a hard work! I think we have to keep on motivating our students (more than we used to). For example, getting to know what interests them and making connections with the contents they are expected to learn at school. If I had to define 2020-2021 in one word, it would be 'overwhelming'. In fact, I had to start taking mindfulness sessions in order to cope with all the changes and difficulties we were undergoing. I managed to think different and to look for other ideas. Life and Health were turning worst in our country but we still had a channel of communication and it was our virtual technology. I learned other strategies because it was time for new challenges so I enrolled in a fantastic trainning course which lead me to find othar options to stay closer with my students.

The necessity to train those who stay back in new technologies in order to be updated not only in tech tools but also in the new paradigm of education.

I must confess that I had mixed feelings. On the one hand, I was enthusiastic about the thousands of resources available to teach online, so I started doing training courses and researching the best tools for my lessons. I think it has been and it continues to be a great challenge to teach during this pandemic. It is true that this situation has accentuated social inequality. In 2020, I had a lot of students who really wanted to continue their studies but they couldn't because they didn't have a device to use or internet connection and some others had to work all day to help their families so they didn't have enough time to study. The text also mentions that this situation has shown that teachers are not trained to use technology properly and I agree with that, but, at the same time, I think that such training is not completely useful when you don't have students who can work with you online or receive, download or upload activities because of their lack of internet connection or devices. However, I do believe that teachers need training and students need it as well. I work with adults and many don't know how to send an email or upload their activities on a website. So, from now on, I think we could incorporate the use of technology into the contents we teach. Of course, first we teachers need to have such knowledge.
In relation to the contents, it is very useful to decide which ones are essential. In my school, we did that last year and this year as well and it has helped us to set clear objectives for us and for our students. At the beginning of this year, we had a lot of students who had not been connected during 2020 so we decided to start teaching the contents from the previous year and that really helped them. Even those students who had worked on the subject in 2020 benefited from this measure.
I agree with what the the text mentions in relation to preparing activities or playing games that help students become a group again. This year, every class was divided into smaller groups. We worked like this during the first term. Now, we have all the students every week and I have noticed that they don't know each other. They just share the same classroom but I think most of them don't feel that they belong to a group. So it is true that we need to devote time to develop and strengthen bonds among our students.

I agree with my colleagues. This pandemic took us by surprise and we had - and we still have - lots of questions and doubts. I started working in 2019 so, when the schools closed, I didn't have enough experience in teaching in the traditional way and all of a sudden I had to teach online. Last year, I tried to keep things simple in relation to the activities I gave students. We couldn't have virtual lessons because most of my students didn't have devices or internet connection so we worked via WhatsApp. I prepared easy-to-read material and simple activities so that students could work on their own at home. This year, during the first term, each class was divided into smaller groups so I tried to make the most of the time we had at school and then I gave my students simple activities so that they could continue being in contact with the subject during the time they were at home. I also communicated with them via WhatsApp and email. At the end of May, schools closed again but, this time, we could have virtual lessons via Meet. It was a challenge but I think it worked well. Of course, we had to deal with technical problems all the time but I had the opportunity to see my students and I was able to incorporate videos and online games that sometimes we cannot use at school because of the lack of internet connection. Now, we are back at school. In general, this year, the online experience was better than that of 2020, especially because we had more "experience".

I think that the most important ideas in this podcast coincide with views that have already been expressed on this board. First, the fact that there has been a change in teachers’ mindset: many of us have become aware of all our potential and we’ve been able to make great progress as regards the use of technology in our lessons. Then, a negative aspect of the pandemic is that it has exacerbated inequalities and has caused serious disruptions to students’ learning and development. So, our challenge is to turn this situation into ‘a more pedagogical and inclusive learning reality’ which, in my opinion, implies a lot of hard work, commitment and collaboration.

As Furman mentions, this pandemic has shown us that we can change the way we teach for the better. It is true that we need to help our students develop strategies to organize their time and activities, set objectives and work on their own. I work with adults and sometimes, we tend to believe that they already know how to do these things but that is not always the case. I also agree with what she says about the different contexts in which our students live and study. Sometimes, when we think about the challenges they face, we mention the lack of technological devices, internet connection or knowledge on how to use technology. However, many students have their own families to take care of, full-time jobs, other responsibilities, less opportunities to look for information or seek help. It is not easy to study in those conditions. For us, as teachers, it is necessary to be aware of this and become more understanding and flexible.

For me, it was a big but exciting challenge. I knew how to use several resources but I didn't have enough experience in using them as part of my teaching practice. For example, I used Meet or Zoom but I had to master the art of sharing my screen (and remembering to share my sound every time we watched a video). I also knew how to edit photos but I had to learn how to check my students' work using different editors. At first, checking just two or three assignments took me hours. However, I think that this experience helped me a lot.

I think that when we forcefully tried new ways to teach, we also allowed ourselves to make mistakes and really understand their importance in every cognitive process, especially ours. The ELT community is in a much better position to use technology for language learning. There was a positive shift in the teachers' attitude as regards using technology. There are some negative effects of the pandemic on learners (uneaven access to internet that gives rise to absentism, pedagogy and material gaps, differences in students learning, heavy workload on teachers and students' distraction while learning online) that could be overcome with a more pedagogically inclusive learning reality.

I am definitely still doing it. It was really challenging to teach in this pandemic situation from one day to the other. Every day was a new learning experience. not only students were learning but also we as teachers. Multitasking became part of our routine. Sharing our personal space with our lessons was not easy. No schedule was admitted because we were also getting in our students' personal space. Apart from this, finding the tools for making them involved in the lessons and the understanding was a challenge every day. We managed to plan the lessons in many different ways so the students could still make the effort not to give up and continue.

The text reflects what we are going through. Now, we have started with the complete number of students in the classroom; it is a kind of experiment. During the pandemics, most teachers have to face many difficulties with virtual classes. For instance, On the one hand, There are “Offline” students, who don´t have the main technological resources to allow them continue ... On the other hand, There are “Online” students but they are really offline since they don´t participate, do homework, they are not active and compromised with school... It was really hard to give lessons during these uncertain, stressful and frustrating times. We, as teachers, also had to adapt to this new way of living, working, learning and teaching which involved using a wide range of apps, social networks and platforms, to name just a few. Socio-economical factors also played a crucial role in our students' education since they hindered the traditional face-to-face communication at school. Needless to say, very few students had access to connectivity or technological devices such as a computer or even a cell phone. Taking into account everyone's reality and needs at school, we made use of different resources such as Google classroom, Whatsapp, emails, meet, zoom and so on.

Since Covid19 outbreak, we had no choice but to change and adapt to a new lifestyle, an unusual way of relating to other people such as relatives, friends, workmates and students. Our lives, indeed, also changed unexpectedly and education as well as people's roles in it were not the exception. Innovation and challenges were the norm. During this pandemic, new technologies made teaching and learning processes even more challenging. If I was not familiar with some technological devices, apps and platforms, for instance, I tried to ask for help. Also, I surfed the Internet to watch videos, tutorials and read a lot. There was plenty of work to do but not enough time!! I agree with those who consider that there was no support for us teachers. However, it was an enriching experience.

As some of my partners have already pointed out, when the pandemic started I thought it would last just for a couple of days. The first thing we did at the schools I work was to create Google Sheets and upload activities for those days. When we got to know it would take longer, we realized it would not be enough so we, as teachers, created Google classrooms and soon zoom classes started. The need to go back to see each other was huge. As time went through sts started to lose interest in these new ways of learning so as a teacher I had to start using new material, games, songs, videos and more in order to engage them. It wasn't an easy task. It was quite hard for sts but they do not know that iT was also extremely hard for us.

2020 and specially 2021 have been extremely difficult years. I had to "move" my books to digital material, the school classroom changed into zoom clases, mostly with black backgrounds and white names (no expressions) AND the regular activities also needed revision because they were no longer engaging.
These changes made our teaching practice very difficult. Every week a new "methodology" was implemented so classes needed to be revised and changed.

As regards the use of technology, at first I was glad to be a good friend of it. However, as days passed by, I realized that teaching online required a lot more than being able to use Google doc, classroom and Zoom. In my viewpoint, the most important ideas are about the impact of the pandemic on students and teachers. The former and the latter have been able to adapt to this new reality. On the one hand, teachers are lifelong learners and have moved from “I can’t” to “I can” in relation to technology. On the other hand, students are distracted online and some of them don’t like studying virtually. Learning and development has been interrupted and disrupted by the pandemic. At the beggining as my colleagues said it was so difficult, not only beacuse we had to learn and find out how to get to our students but also because students' reality was hard. Sometimes I feel upset since none of them were in my virtual class, however when I talked to them privately I could understand their reasons. Everything has changed since 2019 when pandemic has started, thus 2020 arrive with many changes in life because of politics, health and economic conditions, and all of these affected our educational system too. I do not have problems using technologies for class, I really like it. The big problem i have to face was the reality of my school and my students, I work in a rural poublic school in a small town and many of them do not have any kind of technology o cnectivity to work, they could not ask me for doubts , or i can't explain them in virtual classes. we sent copies to school with written explanations in English and spanish and student went to school to look for them. Then they sent me their question via their tutors, whatsapp, messenger or mail if they have technology or conexion to do it

Technology has made tremendous advances. It plays a key role in helping us to create better experiences.
Last year, I have sped up the integration of technology into many activities to students like never before.
However imnovation comes with numerous challenges, as Melina says in her video. Many students have suffered in terms of education. Teachers had to adapt to new digital tools.
