The Missouri Compromise made states above the 36 30 parallel line free states. The Missouri Compromise had a Political significance because it temporary relieved conflict between the North and South. It prevented the South from breaking away at the time and was a major root of sectionalism. It separated the North and South even more since it said that states above the 36 30 parallel if free white the ones below are slave state. The division through North America backfired and ultimately increased the amount of tension between the North and South.

The Fugitive slave act had a social and a political significance due to it intensifying sectionalism and stopping the abolitionists in the North from being able to help slaves. Northern abolitionists were not able to really help them since they would have to go back to their owners if they tried getting into the free states. This provoked outrage within the North because they had to assist in capture for runaway slaves and it pushed the nation to war.

The Election of 1860 had a very big social and political significance because it was the election that President Lincoln won. Lincoln's win of the Election of 1860 was good and bad at the same time, as Lincoln wanted to stop the spread of slavery westward but the South didn't like that a anti-slavery guy was president.
