All Ni River Middle School students will improve their content vocabulary comprehension by incorporating vocabulary activities throughout the year. A baseline score will be obtained from a vocabulary pretest. All students will show growth based on the chart below:

Reverse the current downward trend in mathematics pass rate by implementing cross curricular planning and activities throughout all content areas with math teachers focusing on the similar downward trend noted in the subgroups (SWD, ECD, Group 1).

All students will improve writing skills by using correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling. All writing assignments will be assessed utilizing a common grammar rubric in addition to normal grading criteria.

Teacher will participate in PD on the academic SMART goal selected in order for 100% of the staff to lead a professional development workshop by department demonstrating newly implemented strategies and its effectiveness on student learning.

The grammar rubric "grade" does not need to be calculated into the assignment grade. The grammar rubric grade is recorded for the SMART goal.

Does this mean in math when a child is asked to solve an equation they will use their notes and knowledge to solve it?

The writing can be something as simple as an exit slip which asks students to reflect on an activity they've done, or a summary of what they've learned that day. It can also be an explanation of a process/concept
.

I like the idea of connecting the academic goal directly to PD & then "turning it around"

I grade using a writing rubric for German. Could I use this for German? My students don't write in English. :)

I think this goal (Family and Community Engagement) is such a perfect goal for the students at our school.

Did you know Germanna Community College has a school-wide goal that revolves around problem solving? "A key component...centers around the development of our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Through nearly two years of extensive input, research, and development, Germanna is focusing its efforts on improving the problem solving skills of our students. The acquisition and development of this soft-skill is critical for the success of our students and graduates.

They are going to "provide extensive, professional development and training for faculty in the areas of problem solving and problem-based learning. Faculty will be infusing these strategies in their teaching."

I like the writing goal. I think it could apply to every class. Every class involves some kind of writing/grammar. I think this wouldn't be too difficult to measure.

Just be careful not do duplicate service projects that BETA or NJHS are already planning.

I like how this is outside of the normal goals. I think it's very worthwhile thing to do.

I really do like this idea. I think this goal would be a great option for the SIP goal
