This movie really starkly contrasted the other movies we have watched up until now in terms of gender roles, and the role of women in the movies. Nola, the protagonist was continually the one 'in power' or calling the shots in her relationships with the three men, and I thought this was an interesting and refreshing difference compared to the other movies. One thing I was wondering about was why that one scene of the two dancers was in color, when all the rest of the movie was in black and white?

After watching I realized this is the first movie we have watched where to main conflict is not centered around the character's blackness. I think this is relevant because sometimes films portray black characters without all the layers that make them unique. I felt like this film focused more on intersectionality.

I thought it was interesting how each of the three men (Mars, Jamie and Greer) were polar opposites of each other.

This movie was super interesting in how each character seemed to develop the others in some sort of different manner. For example, each of Nola's partners seemed to characterize each other in the different ways in which they try to persuade her.

I thought the use of color vs. black and white in the film was really interesting. I was wondering why they chose to make the one scene in color and the rest in black and white. I also was curious about why they chose to have most of the film in black and white because at that time, color film had already been developed.

I was also interested in how all the men had drastically different points of views and personalities, but how they all were similar in some way because of Nola.
