The story, "Encounter", is told from the point of view of the old man. The old man believes that the sky people came and destroyed his home. In the text, he describes how the sky people arrived at his home, and even though he warned his people that they were dangerous, they didn't listen. In the text, he explained "Our young men left the shelter of the trees. I-who was not yet a man-followed, crying 'Do not welcome them. Do not call them friends'. No one listened to me, for I was but a child". He then later in the text said "The next day the strangers returned to their great canoes. They took five of our young men and many parrots with them. They took me".

This proves how the old man, whose's point of view the story was told from, believes that the sky people destroyed his home.

In the text it also said "So it was we lost our lands to the strangers in the sky...That is why I, an old man now, dream no more dreams.

The protagonist in the text "Encounter" is the old man and has a negative Point Of View about the strangers. 2 pieces to support this claim is "That is why I sit here wrapped in a stranger's cloak counting the strangers bells on a string telling my story." And "I jumped up crying, "Do not welcome them."" So, the man obviously does not like the strangers.

The protagonist of the story "Encounter" Is the Old man. His POV about the "Invaders" are that they are very bad and shouldn't belong on their island and shouldn't be welcomed. A piece of evidence from the text to show the Old Man's POV on the "Invaders" is "Do not welcome them. Do not call them friends." This tells that the Old Man doesn't welcome and is worried of them. Another piece of evidence to infer that the Old Man has a bad POV about the "Invaders" is. "Let the pale strangers form the sky go away from us." This explains that the Old Man doesn't want the people on the island, therefore inferring that he has a bad POV and is worried about the "Invaders." So to conclude, the Old Man, telling the story in his POV, doesn't like and fears the "Invaders" That came" to his island.

The protagonist's point of view is from the old man. Evidence from the text suggests this by saying "That is why, I am old man now, dream no more dreams" This shows that the point of view of the text is from the old man because it says I, an old man now. Another quote from the text is "I ran then and found our chief still sleeping in his hammock. Do not welcome them, I begged him, My dream is a warning." This shows how the Old man is the protagonist because he was attempting to save his people from the strangers. In conclusion, the protagonist point of view is from the old man.

The protagonist's (The old man) point of view in the story is that he doesn't like the strangers that come to their land and how they take over their life. We know this because in the text Encounter, it says, " I watched their chief smile. It was the serpent's smile - no lips and all teeth." and "So it was we lost our lands to the strangers from the sky. We gave our souls to their gods. We took their speech into our mouths, forgetting our own. Our sons and daughters became their sons and daughters, no longer true humans, no longer ours." This text evidence shows us that the protagonist is upset that strange people came to their shores.

The old man's point of view is that the Europeans (supposedly Columbus and his men) are negatively impacting their native tribe by destroying their homes and they are losing everything to them. The text mentions "So we lost our lands to the strangers from the sky. We gave our souls to their gods. We took their speech into our mouth, forgetting our own." shows how they lost their land and a part of culture, basically destroying their homes. It also says "The next day the strangers returned to their great canoes. They took five of our young men and many parrots with them. They took me." is when the old man gets kidnapped by the Europeans. This results in the tearing apart of the families, and destruction of their families/communities.

In text Encounter the protagonist POV is coming from the old man, who believed(as a child) that they should not trust the "Sky Men" when they came to the Taino's island. In the text, the old man states "Do not welcome them" multiple times, and the chief answers with a simple "You are but a child." This explains that The old man also notes "So it was we lost our lands to the strangers from the sky...May it be a warning to all the children and all the people in every land." This proves that the man never trusted the sky men and the consequences of trusting them. This all goes to show that the protagonist POV is from the old man and how he didn't trust the "sky men" as a child. To conclude, the protagonist POV is from the old man.

In the text it says that" Then I prayed 'let the pale strangers go away from us'" Another piece of evidence is "Do not welcome them. Do not call them friends" This evidence shows that the old man saw the danger in his dream.

The protagonist, the Old Man in the text, "Encounter" by Jane Yolen's point of view is that Christopher Columbus and his men had tooken their lands people, traditions, and religions away from their people. "The next day the strangers returned to their great canoes. They took five of our young men and many parrots with them." This shows that "the strangers" which we can infer is Christopher Columbus and his crew took some of their men and parrots, which were a important bird to their culture. It also says, "We gave our souls to their gods. We took their speech into our mouths forgetting our own." This is showing that the strangers took their culture and tradition and made their culture the native Americans culture. In summary, the Old man's point of view is that Christopher Columbus's crew took their people, culture, and religion.

The old man's point of view in the text, "Encounter", is that he thinks that the "strangers" that took his lands had bad intentions and were evil people. This is because at the end of the text, he said that he was telling this story as a "warning to all the children and all the people in every land.". This shows that he felt that the Europeans were so evil he needed to give a warning to people about them. To show how he felt scared of them, he talked about how his people "lost (their) lands to the strangers from the sky (the Europeans)". This gives a reason for him to be thinking of the Europeans as evil and cold-blooded. To conclude, the old man felt that the Europeans and their conquest were evil and had bad intentions.
