Albert Marquet is a French Painter he was born on 27 March 1875 in Bordeaux. He moved to Paris in 1890 to study. He was taught by Gustave Moureau and Georges Rouault at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He became roommates with Henri Matisse and they influenced each other. He learned about the style Fauve which was popular in that period. He became close friends with Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy. Although his art isn't always bright his art benefited from the influence of the abstract "organisation of colour" he saw in other artists artworks.

He mostly painted landscapes but he sometimes painted portraits. His portraits mainly consist of simple brush strokes to make all the different shapes. He also used some forms of abstract work in his art. He travelled a lot in his life time and did a lot of landscapes mostly on the waterfronts of France, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, and Northern Africa.

Fauve is a style that was popular in the early twentieth century. It was led by a group of modern artists whose art accentuatedthe style. The trend only lasted through 1905- 1908 and only had three exhibitions. The main artists in the movement were André Derain and Henri Matisse.

It will be on the waterfront in Paris, France. All the artworks will be across the waterfront for people to look at, they will be displayed on easels. I want the artworks to be displayed on the waterfront so they can be near the water while they look at the artworks that have water in them. So they can smell and see the water around them while they look at the artworks.

I recreated the piece called "The Minaret at Sidi Bou Saïd" it was made in 1923 by Albert Marquet and he painted it on the water edge of Tunisia. When I first looked at the artwork I liked the mountains in the background, the water and the style of the art piece. I dislike that some of the colours are so dull and bland. When I look at this artwork it makes me feel free and calm but also kind of lonely for some reason even though there's a lot of houses. The first 10 things I saw when I looked at the artwork was the mountains in the background, all the houses and buildings, all the water, the trees and nature. The buildings mainly consist of neutral colours, the mountains; sea and sky are blue, there is a small beach on the right hand side, I saw all the different colours, the different shapes, he made the trees that are bigger and ones that are smaller to make it look like the small ones are further away and the ones that are bigger are closer. He painted a landscape painting, I think he was trying to represent that there's different places in the world that you can visit. The first thing that I noticed was the water which is on the middle left and right, I think I saw this first because its in the middle and its pretty much a solid colour. I think the most used element is shape because it's used in everything it's pretty much a bunch of shapes all together forming an artwork.
