2. skills used like Thinking Back bc psycho was so long ago help....but it's interesting to know which scenes stood out the most for us to have remembered it so vividly despite being so long ago.

I had to think of the different characteristics of Psycho and Peeping Tom and tried to compare and analyse them so that we would have points to say in the debate. They can analyse it as critically as film students do, or judge other’s taste through just another’s favourite director. Critiques can also be persuaded to say well about a film, regardless of quality, to stay on good terms with the industry or government or society. So ultimately, whether a film is deemed good or not is up to everyone’s own perception. 

I used my knowledge of film art for the debate. Coming up with counter arguments usually involved picking flaws in the ways others critique the film, their basis, rather than the content itself. It is very interesting to see how different factors have varying importance to everyone when judging a film. It helped me to realize that what I observe from a film is not always the only 'answer', and that my perspective may be too shallow too. The small detail are especially so because a film is subjective. Therefore, everyone will have their own opinions and this can easily cause a topic to go off-track. Visual storytelling is one key factor in telling whether the film outcome is good or bad. Although the color is one factor of it, I feel that all you need is an actor who can portray according to what the film is going to be, even though is black & white, the audience will want to keep watching over and over again. Actor expression is the most important thing. For this debate, I really tried to understand the entire story first before diving in to the characters and then think of why and how the writers wrote what they write. I only talk about the comparison on both serve different purpose and motivation yet the same genre. However, I learned that everyone has their perspective on seeing films. I learnt from the other side that countering your own side with its flaws and disadvantages, and praising the advantages of the other side can seize your side an opportunity.  

It's also important to think deeper about all aspects of filmmaking. Even if you may not support your own side, by finding the reasons how and why your film/point was made will allow you to appreciate the process of the film and get good points for you to defend. Having a structure for your debate is also important. It should be organised and the way you convey it should be clear.
