Since 1849 Denmark has been a Constitutional Monarchy. This means they have a constitution but still have a monarch, this monarch must follow the constitution and also a form of democracy. At this time they have a queen, Margrethe II, she has been head of the country since 1972. She along with many high officials reside in Copenhagen, the capitol. According to their constitution there are checks and balances to the queen. The constitution implements parliament (Folketing), a group of people/ system that keeps a close eye on the monarch of Denmark. The democracy side of their government is the fact that the citizens decide who is on parliament. The citizens also can decide when the monarch has gained too much control and can take everyone in office, including the monarch, out of office.Another part of their "democracy" is the judicial branch they have. Although the monarch does decide on the judge, the judicial and executive branch are supposed to be entirely separate. Europe is known for having good health and life expectancy. Denmark is one of those countries. The average person living in Denmark lives for around 80 years compared to Americas 78 years. This is more than likely because of the amount of exercise Danish people get and their diet. Danish people walk and ride bikes everywhere, mostly because of how high taxes are. Denmark has certain socialist aspects, they have "free" health care, law, schools, colleges, etc. This would be great if their taxes weren't so high. Those taxes are used to pay for those things, but what if you don't use those things. During the middle ages, from the 8th to 10th century, the vikings ruled Europe. Vikings started out as struggling farmers, fishermen, and herdsmen. Denmark has an awfully brutal climate. So many people would die from natural causes. On top of that their was no major government or stability. It was every household for itself. There would be wars every day! So instead of fighting each other over food many farmers gathered and built many extremely fast and maneuverable ships. They traveled all along the coast of Europe attacking city after city, especially monasteries. They were feared everywhere for their brutal tactics and stealthy take overs. They concurred many nations like Paris France, Greenland, Iceland, etc. The vikings were unstoppable until they finally decided to settle down and stopped attacking people. Denmark is booming when it comes to their technology and sciences. They are making huge advancements in green energy especially. Denmark being so windy the nation is covered in wind turbines producing around 50 percent of their electricity from wind turbines. These turbines aren't your usual back yard 30 foot ones. They can be over a 100 feet tall and as of 2015 they have produced 97 gigawatt-hours  of electricity alone. Enough to power 10 million households. They are spending millions on research into this new technology. They have test sights all over Denmark to test the best areas, heights and widths. Denmark has also been a huge part in the shipping industries, making some of the most energy efficient cargo ships to date. They also "participate in high profile projects like CERN, ITER, ESA, ISS, and E-ELT." Denmark was one of the first countries to make GSM telephones. They have huge interests in daily life sciences. Every bit of education in Denmark is regulated by the Ministry of Education in Denmark. These schools are called Folkeskole, kids go to school for ten  years (6 - 10). ''There are no final examinations, but pupils can choose to go to a test when finishing ninth grade (14–15 years old)." After this basic mandatory education there are other opportunities such as the Gymnasium, a program that teaches cultural topics and technology. Then you have Higher Technical Examination Programme (HTX), Higher Examination Programme, Higher Preparatory Examination Programme, etc. Since Denmark is a Socialist country their education is "free." Which basically means their education is included in their taxes. Some people think this is good others don't. Because people that don't need to go to school are paying for it until they die or move out of Denmark. Denmark's taxes are extremely high due to the fact that they are stuck to pay for almost every government provided system or project. This can also be good if you're one of the people using these systems but many of the systems are known for being slow and bad such as; health care.
