Shift cipher is a basic one if you want to keep something secret from someone but its easy to find out what it is. An Affine cipher is more complicated, it has more keys that can be used and will take a while to find out what that person is hiding. An easy way to find out what they are hiding is using a chart that has the percentages of the letters that can be used in someone text.
