1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

In order to achieve interprofessional collaboration, team members should not only communicate and collaborate but also understand the capabilities and limitations of the other team members. By knowing this, the team can designate roles matched with the team member’s expertise. Thus, the intervention will be more efficient.

A rehabilitation professional should put the person and their family first before the impairment, disability, or disease. By doing this, we will be able to acknowledge and incorporate our patient’s interests, preferences, and goals into our treatment plans. This will also allow us to set goals that are significant to them. Unlike intervention approaches that focus on the patient’s impairment, goals in such perspective might focus on reducing the signs and symptoms of the condition without contextualizing it in the patient's environment. In turn, the patient may find it irrelevant.

As we interact with our clients, we must build relationships with pakikipagkapwa as an intention. As we extend empathy and compassion to our patients and their family, we will be able to establish good patient-clinician relationships which can positively impact the intervention process.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

I believe the concepts of interprofessional collaboration are not only applicable to working professionals, but also to students who have several group works. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each groupmate will enable me to distribute the tasks efficiently. Therefore, we will be able to maximize each skill and complement each other, allowing us to submit an excellent output.

As a future rehabilitation professional, I will use the patient-centered approach as I provide intervention services to my patients. I want to create and implement an individualized treatment that accommodates their preferences and goals.

Building relationships with pakikipagkapwa as an intention is something that I can use in my personal life and my future practice. Choosing pakikipagkapwa over pakikisama will enable me to develop genuine relationships with other people.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (n.d.), an SLP is responsible for preventing, assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages. Not only that they can serve as healthcare professionals, they can also be professors, advocates, and researchers. In addition to this, they can also be a collaborative team member. In terms of the non-professional roles and responsibilities of an SLP, I believe that it is to establish a good patient-clinician relationship. SLPs may also provide emotional support as well as help the patient and his/her family to adjust to the condition.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity will allow the team members to collaborate efficiently. By knowing the expertise of each team member, they will know who to ask when they need certain information (e.g. patient's skills on that aspect, triggers, as well as strategies and techniques to accommodate the patient's skills) that can help them during their therapy sessions. Moreover, role clarity situates each team member in their respective places and reminds them of their role and responsibilities. This will allow them to focus on the goals that fall within their scope. Furthermore, it will also prevent them to overstep boundaries or provide services that are within the scope of their team member.

References: American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on "Learning Collaboratively" & "Patient-Centered Care"?

I learned that learning collaboratively with other professionals is considered productive and has good outcomes. Furthermore, it also promotes understanding between each profession’s roles and responsibilities. On the other hand, I discovered that patient-centered care involves a variety of components and factors, including not only the treatment of the illness itself but also the patient's whole interaction with the system for providing services.

2. In which areas, personal or professional, will I use what I learned?

I think that I can utilize everything I learned in this course not just professionally but also personally. I believe that before working collaboratively, one must first understand the value of individualism and their role in a certain profession because one should have mastery regarding their field of areas in order to enhance teamwork when working collaboratively and for us develop coordinated approaches to service delivery with regard to our patients.

3. What are professional &/or non-professional roles & responsibilities in your chosen field?

As future Speech-Language Pathologists, we always strive to improve the treatment outcomes of our patients. We treat, assess, diagnose, and prevent speech and language disorders, swallowing disorders, and cognitive-communication disorders in children and adults. Since we are experts in the field of communication, also we handle Alternative and Augmentative Communication, provide audiological assessments, listening devices, etc.

4. What is the value of the role of charity among members of the team?

I think the value of this role is the voluntarism within each member of the team to give help not just for the sake of our patients but also for the sake of the whole team as well.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on "Learning Collaboratively" & "Patient Centered Care"?

Due to challenges encountered to the provision of quality healthcare, a redesigning of healthcare professional education wherein interdependence of the different professions were made. This established working collaboratively in providing care, change in educational methods, and interdisciplinary education. Additionally, IPE and IPCP were intended to help different professionals so they may deliver quality services through learning from each other and working together. However, learning collaboratively also entails having clarity of roles, similar to delegating tasks when given group work in classrooms. Each person must have designated tasks so the workload can be executed efficiently.

Besides learning collaboratively, establishing patient-centered care is also essential in providing the highest quality of services. Acknowledging the patient's wants and needs allows for a more holistic approach. Patients can share their insights, promoting decision-making and avoiding passive learning. Having patient-centered care also makes it more attuned to the client’s context and promotes holistic care.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

I would be able to use these learnings when I undergo an internship and if ever I work with an interprofessional team. I would be able to practice the guidelines for patient-centered care as I interact with my patients. This will not only allow me to obtain pertinent information about the clients, but it will allow me to involve them in the healthcare process actively. Moreover, developing the values intended for patient-centered care will not only help me professionally because I can also apply these values in my everyday life. For instance, I can use the well-known values of kagandahang loob, pakikisama, pakikipagkaisa, etc. as I meet new people. As a future allied health professional, it is essential to build a relationship not only with my clients but also with other members of the team, and these values can be applied in forming them.

3. What are professional &/or non-professional roles & responsibilities in your chosen field?

In occupational therapy, there are multiple roles but the main role of an OT is to involve the use of therapeutic use of everyday activities in treating patients so they can perform the occupations meaningful to them. Thus, this includes addressing concerns of patients in a holistic manner, wherein the context of the patient and other factors are considered. With this, other responsibilities of a OT include evaluating the patient’s condition and needs, developing treatment plans according to their needs, assessing the patient’s home and work environment to recommend adaptations, client education and training them with special equipment, and assessing the progress of the patient. In addition, one of the responsibilities of OTs include maintaining a professional image and being presentable. Along with this, OTs must enhance and use their problem solving and critical thinking skills in creating solutions tailor-fit to the client while also abide by the standards of practice and remaining ethical.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Valuing role clarity among members decreases in overlapping and unfulfilled roles in the team. It also provides direction for the team since being aware of one’s specific role will enhance the team's overall performance. Moreover, the roles of other team members are also essential to know who to approach for particular tasks. This will also ensure that all areas concerning the client can be addressed and easier to monitor. Role clarity will also establish efficient management of the client and will avoid hectic situations.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

During the first lesson, I learned about the history of IPE and how it came to be. In addition to this, I was able to know the importance of working collaboratively in a team. Moreover, the importance and implications of knowing one’s role in the team were also given emphasis in the first unit. Furthermore, I also learned the significance of getting to know the patient and considering his/her opinion. In line with this, it was also highlighted that the patient should take part actively during treatment, and their family members should also be involved in the whole duration of the program.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

When it comes to treating future patients, I will also take into account the patient’s insights and opinions regarding his/her treatment plan instead of deciding it myself. Additionally, if there would be instances wherein interprofessional collaboration will benefit my patient, I would not think twice and refer the patient immediately to other professionals that can help the patient. This is because I learned in this course that interprofessional collaboration is advantageous for the patient.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

As a physical therapist, it is our role to help patient regain their optimal function by prescribing interventions as well as home exercise programs. It is also a PT’s responsibility to teach the patients how to perform tasks properly and how to prevent diseases or their complications, consequently improving the patient’s quality of life. Another responsibility of a PT is to be able to collaborate with the team to provide patients the best treatment or care possible. It is also the PT who will establish rapport and ensure that the patient is comfortable during treatment. Lastly, a PT is also responsible in making the patients feel motivated which can then assist with the patient’s recovery.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity is essential to prevent overlap of the different professionals during the treatment of the patient. This will save both the patient’s and the professional’s time such that the professional is focused on treating a particular impairment or functional limitation of a patient. In addition to this, it allows the team to be efficient in the performance of their own tasks and roles.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “learning collaboratively” and “Patient-Centered Care”?

Learning and working collaboratively with peers and colleagues are essential to ensure quality patient-centered care. The goal of the collaboration is to transform how healthcare is provided holistically; hence, communication should be present between healthcare professionals to openly discuss the possible interventions and treatments that should be provided to the patient/client. It is also essential that competency between the team members is maintained so the professionals can utilize their abilities and strengths in contributing to the team and to the recovery of the client.

Furthermore, while attaining quality care, it is of utmost importance to acknowledge the patients as they are active people in their own care. When providing treatments, the team should respect and acknowledge preference, culture, and nuances. Family members shall also participate in the decision-making when the client cannot decide on their own. Consequently, it is essential that the professionals shall provide education to both the client and their family members regarding the diseases, processes, complications, and other information regarding the health and well-being of the client for them to make decisions and participate in their own care.

2. In which areas, personal or professional, will I use what I learned?

Professionally, my learnings will be used in the clinic or different settings where I will practice my profession as I will encounter my peers, colleagues, and patients. Personally, it can be used during group work in school and even in maintaining relationships with family and friends. Regardless of the setting, I must practice the different concepts I have learned, such as being a proactive member of discussions by providing my own insights and opinions that I believe will help the team. At the same time, I should be open-minded about the numerous ideas presented to me to broaden my knowledge and apply these learnings in other situations.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

Occupational therapists have a wide range of roles and responsibilities as their service caters across all ages. Its service centers on helping clients to perform their valued occupations in their everyday lives. Furthermore, OTs develop treatment plans for rehabilitation to address the difficulty and needs of the clients to meet their goals. Included in the treatment plan is providing different home modifications and assistive devices that can help the client function in their everyday life. Apart from this, OTs also have a role in working collaboratively with different professionals such as teachers, social workers, psychologists, and other professionals from the rehabilitation team. They must be able to utilize the strengths of the profession when working with the team, at the same time, be professional when presenting themselves.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity is important among the members of the team to avoid gaps in services that may lead to improper patient care. It is essential that each team member and their roles shall be acknowledged as each can utilize their own capabilities in providing holistic service to the patient. Furthermore, role clarity is essential, especially during goal setting, as the goals and treatments done to the patient shall be aligned and not contradict each other.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on "Learning Collaboratively" & "Patient Centered Care"?

In the session “Learning Collaboratively”, I learned how communication is the foundation of effective teamwork. I was able to connect with different students who are studying for different professions. It helped us practice our communication, thinking, listening, and problem solving skills. While in the session “Patient-Centered Care”, I was able to determine how important it is to not only partake in helping the patient get care and treated, but also being able to connect with their ideas and opinion on what they want for themselves. As future medical professionals, we must listen and consider what the patients think is best for them.

2.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

In our team meeting for PLA 1 Part 1, my teammates and I had the chance to listen to each other in sharing our own struggles and challenges at the present time and also those that we have encountered before. Through that sharing, we discovered common values that we deem important for us. It felt comforting knowing that we all have different personal/academic struggles but share mostly all the same goals and values. In that activity, I was reminded of how our team can better reach our objectives– through open communication with respect and consideration.

The session on “Patient Centered Care” focused on the basic and relevant information that we need to be aware of and ultimately be put into practice in the healthcare setting. The guidelines in PCC were already introduced to us in previous courses but I believe these are the foundations of efficient client care. In Part 2 of PLA 1, the video allowed me to dig deeper into how service is delivered to not just the patient/client but also to their families and communities. Dealing with the presented case of dementia, I can say that it requires great amounts of effort, patience, empathy and commitment to sufficiently provide for the patient’s needs and address his preferences.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

I consider all learnings to be equally applicable in personal and professional matters. On a personal level, empathic listening is a way for me to connect to a person in the closest and most genuine way possible as I have maintained good relationships with my friends and peers over the years. I certainly value a person’s shared thoughts with me and I will develop my communication skills and know the other ways on how I can better listen and respond to people. Now on a professional level, the course of knowledge acquisition can be very daunting to students like me as we take in many different pieces of information every day, but it should not just stop with knowing and should always follow with knowing how to do it in the proper ways. In clinical practice, one does not need to be the best of the best among his colleagues but to be able to give the best quality of care to his patient.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

In the practice of Physical Therapy, we were always taught by our professors the importance of rationalization of the intervention and our feedback to the patient. As a professional, I must be able to be well hands-on on every case as each of that is different with every patient. I am responsible for making my patient fully understand all the necessary procedures, tests, and treatment that we will do so I must use a language that is familiar to him, in that sense, avoid the use of medical jargons. Aside from that, I must overcome the challenges that may arise such as inconsistencies with the results by going over them again and as well as handle the needs and concerns of the patient. As a current PT student, forming good ties with everyone in the academe, especially with my peers and professors as early as now, will prepare me for the wider scope of social environment that we would deal with in the future.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

Role clarity among the members primarily contributes to the seamless course of inter-professional collaboration. The tasks and responsibilities are identified and distributed to respective professions such that the intervention is administered thoroughly. The expectations and limitations of the whole team for each member and as one team is also set to allow for a higher level of performance. All of these will merit an effective team collaboration and execution of care delivery.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on "Learning Collaboratively" & "Patient Centered Care"?
- Interprofessional collaboration produces positive results and outcomes as it promotes camaraderie and in-depth chemistry among individuals to create an effective and efficient healthcare plan for patients. Although we are tasked to address the patient's immediate needs in the medical field, we must also prioritize the patient's relatives to educate them about the possible changes and adjustments due to the newfound circumstances that they may have. Interprofessional collaboration is not also about collectively working as a unit but also about understanding the strengths and weaknesses of one another.
2. In which areas, personal or professional, will I use what I learned?
- Given that I now realize the importance of collaborative work, like in professional basketball, I can create strategies wherein all of us can use our strengths to deliver an excellent and effective work plan for future clients. Listening and having consideration for your client will be vital for the This will also apply to the distribution of tasks in every group activity as being perceptive about one's strengths and weaknesses will help us to create an excellent output and to be finished on time. What are professional/non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?
- According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), physical therapists are specialized in body motion that improves the client's quality of life. We examine every patient's presenting manifestation of an underlying condition. Furthermore, we develop rehabilitation plans to improve the patient's ability to move and function, formulate pain management, and set goals to improve, maintain or retain the level of independence. Outside healthcare institutions, we are the advocates for spreading awareness that being active - or being in motion is a good notion for a lively, healthy life.
4. What is the value of role charity among members of the team?
- In my perspective, having role clarity within the team helps them understand their limitations personally. With that being said, it will allow the team members to work based on their strengths and interests. Therefore, it can produce a positive and effective output for the client or patients. Understanding their respective roles and responsibilities will also facilitate growth personally and increase the level of their expertise as medical professionals.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on "Learning Collaboratively" & "Patient Centered Care"?

During my first year college, interprofessional collaboration was always mentioned by our professors. It was emphasized that this collaboration would be beneficial not only to us therapists but more specifically to our clients. However, as I learn more about inter professional collaboration through this course, I learned the importance of learning collaboratively and how it greatly impact our patient-centered care. Learning collaboratively with different students emphasized the importance of communication, and enhances the exposure and increases in understanding about the roles and the diverse perspectives of one another. Moreover, having a patient-centered or client-centered care, provides us a common ground. This commonality towards our client makes us creatively think on how do we target our goals and how do we tackle our sessions.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

My learnings in these topics can be used in my professional practice and my everyday life. In my professional practice, communication is essential especially when it comes to treating and handling clients. Having a good and improving client means your communication and treatment goals were effective and clearly communicated. In addition to this, in collaborating with other rehabilitation professionals, having a good and effective communication with them would lead us to an efficient and effective session for out clients. It practices us to communicate well and also be an active learner in the process of communication. In my everyday life, communication also helps me to relay my insights and thoughts to other people. It also help me to be an effective listener to other people.

3. What are professional &/or non-professional roles & responsibilities in your chosen field?

As an OT our role is to help our clients participate and engage in their daily activities. It is also our responsibility to help them achieve their goals in order to participate in their meaningful occupations. We open and create opportunities for them to be able to engage and be effective in their activities. Furthermore, as a therapist, we must know the underlying factors and understand where and what our clients are coming from. This will help us to better appreciate our clients and their goals. As their future thomasian therapists, we have this role of being compassionate and committed to our clients that will show our competence in providing the best quality of care to them.

4. What is the value of role charity among members of the team?

Role charity emphasized the value of helpfulness and kindliness to one another.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?
- One of the main lessons that I learned was an interprofessional collaboration was beneficial for both the healthcare team and the client. Working with healthcare professionals, patients, and families can also produce safe, high-quality, accessible care. It is also where we understand each other's profession and the roles and responsibilities that are expected from us. In patient-centered care, we should also respect the patient's wants, needs, and preferences. Consequently, this would ensure that our patients would have a better experience, satisfaction, and a more significant outcome.

2. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?
- I would use what I learned in collaborating with other healthcare professionals in group activities, especially now that we have many activities that require us to work with one another. I can also use this to enhance my communication skills since it is necessary for us to be able to communicate with each other and with our future patients confidently. Professionally, in handling patients, we should always ask for their consent and what they prefer to make them comfortable and allow them to decide for themselves. I would also consider collaborating with other healthcare professionals, given that it is appropriate and needed for the patient or client.

3. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?
- As responsible physical therapists, we must help our patients recover from their injuries with the help of different modalities and interventions. Teaching the appropriate and safe sequence of movements to perform a specific task is also crucial for the safety and optimal recovery of the patient. We should also avoid the usage of Jargon to prevent confusion. Establishing a rapport with your patients is also necessary as this would make them more comfortable and cooperative with the exercises.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?
- Role clarity is vital for the team to collaborate more effectively. It is also for healthcare professionals to avoid any unnecessary repetition of interventions. Additionally, a clear understanding of individual roles and responsibilities within the team would ensure that the care given is more focused and appropriate for a specific client or patient.

1. What are the key insights that I learned from the session on “learning collaboratively” and “Patient-centered care”?

I learned that interprofessional collaboration is important in achieving patient-centered care. Patient-centered care means that we focus on the patient’s problems that affect his or her daily living. We do not focus on the diagnosis itself. We look at what are the factors that contribute to the patient not being able to participate in activities of daily living and from there, we provide intervention to address those problems. Most often than not, we need the help of other professionals. However, before we can do that, we must learn how to collaborate efficiently and through this course, we are given the chance and the experience to work with other health-allied professionals. We learn different perspectives and opinions in dealing with a specific case. From there, we can look at the patient more holistically because we are able to gather data and information that isn’t within our scope of practice. With that, we get to know the patient’s problems better and we can then provide the necessary intervention so that the patient can be functional in life and in society.

2. In which areas, personal or professional, will I use what I learned?

a. All the knowledge that I gained from the lecture video and group discussion will be beneficial to me personally and professionally. Considering how diverse the population that health-allied professionals deal with, it is important that we can provide the best service that we can offer to the patient. To provide the best patient care, we need to collaborate with other professionals that can contribute to a specific case so that we are able to provide an assessment and intervention that is catered to the patient’s individual needs. It made me realize how important it is to collaborate with other people. We do not just collaborate with other professionals. We also collaborate with the client, their families, our colleagues, parents, friends, etc. We get to know them as people, and we also respect their ideals, values, and culture. By doing so, we can have a relationship built in trust and from that, we are able to collaborate and provide the best care the patient will need. As the saying goes “no man is an island”.

3. What are professional and or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

Speech-Language pathologists bear the roles and responsibilities of preventing, assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, n.d.). It is also our role to collaborate with other professionals considering that the patients that we handle are very diverse. We can collaborate with teachers if we are in a school setting or the child is attending school, collaborate with PT, OT, and SPS if our patient has motor issues, collaborate with audiologist if our patient has hearing problems, and many more. Furthermore, we also bear the role and responsibility of providing counseling to the clients and their families. Sometimes, their condition can be overwhelming. It is our role to let them know that there is a chance at recovery, but we must be able to explain to the client and their families that we need their outmost support and participation to achieve the desired skills they’ve once lost or achieve new skills that they may use to improve their quality of life.

4. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team

Role clarity is important to clearly define each of the members roles and responsibilities to avoid miscommunication and gaps/overlaps during the service delivery. Valuing role clarity will help the members collaborate efficiently and effectively. With role clarity, the members can focus on their role based on their specific profession. If there is a problem that a specific member encountered and that problem is out of his or her scope, he or she can ask other professionals that specializes in that specific problem. With that, the team can deliver the best assessment and intervention because the process that was done were based on the members’ specific scope of practice.

References:

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

1. Reflect on the importance of communication and teamwork in your own IPE group after completing PLA3. How did the team communicate? What went well and how can it be improved? Use the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

In order to produce a high-quality output, the group must first establish communication and teamwork. However, given the demands of the online set-up and our personal schedules, communication was not easily achieved. This certainly affected the group’s teamwork and dynamics. To compensate for the said problem, our liaison officer implemented task delegation via role designation.

Through role designation, everyone was enlightened about their roles and responsibilities. Moreover, it allowed the team members to narrow down who they are supposed to communicate with. It will be easier for them to work together since they don’t have to consider a lot of factors like every member’s time availability. The group also assigned a person who was responsible for collating and ensuring the cohesiveness of the group’s answers. Role designation not only guaranteed that we would be able to submit an output but also ensured that everyone had the opportunity to communicate their thoughts and ideas as well as contribute to the PLA 3 output.

Considering the group’s output, I believe that this strategy worked well for us. Everyone’s ideas were acknowledged and heard. The group was able to submit a cohesive output. Despite this, I believe that this strategy can be further improved by updating one another regarding their work status, either they’re still working on it or they’re already done with their part, as this would not only promote accountability but also create a visual representation of the team’s progress. This would also give ample time for everyone to provide suggestions on each member’s part. In response to this, they can make necessary changes and adjustments which can further enhance the group’s output.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

By reflecting on one’s practice, an individual can determine what improved as well as what hindered his/her performance. He/she will be able to identify the best practices that should be retained and the errors that should be avoided. This also serves as an opportunity to develop one’s skills and prevent stagnation. Thus, this ensures that we would be able to provide our best service and care to our patients.

My favorite model of reflective practice is the Gibbs’s Reflective Cycle. This model has 6 stages: description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. Among the different models of reflective practice, the aforementioned model allows an individual to look into and acknowledge his/her feelings. I believe heightened positive or negative emotions one may experience during an activity may impede his/her performance. This model also welcomes other perspectives which ensure that bias will not dominate and other sides of the situation will be considered.

I can apply this model in my future assessment and therapy sessions. It will serve as the framework to document and monitor the progression of my clinical skills. As a future SLP, I am responsible for evaluating my patient’s communication skills in an hour. Given this, I’ll be using this model after the assessment sessions to reflect on what worked best in terms of gathering information and what activities effectively maximize my time. Similarly, it can be used after therapy sessions to evaluate the care I provided. This can also be used when my patient manifested behavior problems and performed poorly during the session.

1. Reflect on the importance of communication and teamwork in your own IPE group after completing PLA3. How did the team communicate? What went well and how can it be improved? Use the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

When collaborating with professionals from different fields and professions, communication and teamwork are essential. They are necessary to be able to efficiently accomplish a job and achieve certain goals. During the synergy activity, there were multiple activities requiring teamwork and communication, both non-verbal and verbal. With this, the team realized how communication and teamwork contribute toward the achievement of a task.

Non-verbal communication posed several challenges. Despite these, the members of the team were able to communicate with each other through different non-verbal cues, such as sign language and eye contact. Verbal communication, unlike non-verbal communication, allows for every member to understand each other easily. The team was able to communicate properly by sharing and listening to every member’s ideas, suggestions, and opinions. In spite of being able to understand each other in both verbal and non-verbal communication, it can be observed that it took longer for the team to understand each other when we were tasked not to speak than when verbal communication is allowed.

Having delays in communication can result in concurrent delays in the output. Therefore, it is important to ensure smooth verbal and non-verbal communication within the team. In order to make it easier to understand non-verbal cues, every member of the team should be able to recognize and understand the different ways of non-verbal communication. Additionally, active listening and paying attention are important to be able to effectively communicate with other members of the team. Lastly, teamwork is equally important with smooth and effective communication in achieving goals. Therefore, it is essential to practice these in preparation for our future professions.

With everyone having the same goal, it was easier for the team to accomplish the PLA 3. We are able to apply what we have learned during the synergy activity, and every member of the team was also able to understand each other better.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Reflecting, in general, allows us to look back and recognize the novel ideas or lessons that we have learned from a certain experience. Similarly, reflecting on practice allows us to review our actions and their respective outcomes, whether positive or negative. Through reflecting, we recognize the parts or actions which we can maintain and those wherein improvements are necessary. In this way, we can deliver the best care our patients and clients need.

With this, my favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb’s Reflective Cycle. The model depicts that reflection is continuous, thus making it a cycle. In my opinion, reflection should be constant because reflecting is one of the ways in which an individual can improve. In addition to this, the model also considers the individual’s feelings and thoughts, and both the positive and negative points of a certain event. This allows an individual to take into account every aspect when reflecting. Lastly, the model also includes what an individual can do in the case that the same thing happens again. With this, an individual is prepared on what to do when the same event occurs.

Having realized the importance of reflecting on practice, I will constantly reflect in my future practice. I will find time at the end of every day to reflect on the events that occurred. I will consider what I felt and thought during the day. In addition to this, I will think of the things that I can further improve on. I will do this in order to avoid the repetition of mistakes and to only refine the positive aspects of my future practice.

What went well and how can it be improved? Use the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

As starters for our PLA 3, the group used communication as avenue to produce a quality outcome. After our face-to-face synergy session, the group improved on communicating with one another as we have seen and talked in person. However, due to the constraints of limited time to have an in-person meet up and upcoming shifting exams, the group only met and communicated online that greatly affected the group dynamics we had. In order to proceed with PLA 3, our liaison officer began to delegate tasks fairly by assigning us using a randomizer.

Having our LO implementing a task designation, the group easily knew and started doing their assigned tasks. This also helped in maximizing the time and effort of each member especially that the shifting is around the corner. Each member had at least one partner in accomplishing the task. I met with my partner, Charlize online via Discord. We talked about what has transpired during our synergy session. It was a productive meeting with her and we shared our opinions and brainstormed to answer the question assigned to us. Thus, answering the question became easier, we had the same idea of what we were supposed to write, and we accomplished it fast.

Communication and teamwork is vital in a group as it makes the group dynamics efficient and effective. It also allows the group to have an easier way of doing things and successfully reaching the goal. Therefore, it is important that having these attributes and values would be beneficial to our practice especially when collaborating with other professions.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What's your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Reflecting gives us opportunities to identify and appreciate our own performance and what has transpired in the situation. Likewise in our practice, reflecting on our performance makes us identify and appreciate what we have done. This also gives us an avenue to realize and improve ourselves when it comes to our practice. We are able to identify and recognize what we have done and its outcome that would hone us to become a better practitioner. This reflection would result to a better way of delivering our services to our clients and provide best possible care that our clients need.

My favorite mode of reflective practice is Gibb's model of reflective cycle. This cycle consists of six steps which are: description, feeling, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. This model really explained and breaks down the experience which allows us to reflect on our own experiences. Gibbs emphasized that by reflecting on your learning experience, it would allow us to improve our performances as it is happening as well as improving it for the future. Moreover, it ensures us to use safe and effective evidence-based care that improves our performance and services for our clients. Applying this model especially in the practice would be beneficial not only to me as a practitioner of the field but also to my clients. This model can be applied whenever I am treating or giving my services to my clients.

What went well and how can it be improved? Use the What? So what? Now what? reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

Our group was able to build effective teamwork and communication from the beginning of the course as we completed our designated tasks for the course requirements. These two team ideals greatly helped us in completing the task at hand and fostering positive relationships between group members. Even though we only recently began to interact in person, I believe that our group dynamics are still positive because we have already developed mutual respect and trust, held one another accountable, and worked well together to fulfill our duties. There are times when I can sense that we hesitate to give our constructive comments and suggestions because we are afraid that we might offend the other party. For improvement, I think our team could work more in allowing ourselves to express our ideas freely in any aspect of work.

I had the chance to interact with them in person at the Synergy Activity as we took part in the activities that our facilitators had prepared. I could still see the pleasant group dynamics that we had established online there. Our shared objective, understanding, and consideration for one another made it much easier for us to communicate with one another as we moved through the tasks. In addition to all of this, I also saw our group's competitive side, which heightened my enthusiasm in taking part because I genuinely wanted our group to excel. Now that I've had both onsite and online experiences, I'm certain that our group is competent and equipped for the next sessions and most importantly, for the clinical setting as well.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

We understand exactly that the goal of IPE is for students to learn how to function in an interprofessional team and to apply all the acquired knowledge, skill, and value in our future practice, eventually providing interprofessional patient care as part of a collaborative team focused on improving patient outcomes. Our goal again is to collaborate with each other to provide patient-centered care. The team that we have establishes a common goal and collaborates to achieve that patient-centered goal using our individual expertise. To collaborate and communicate as a team for optimal patient care, the members of our team synthesize our observations and profession-specific expertise. All of these would result in specific benefits primarily intended for our clients including improved interprofessional communication, greater awareness of patient care issues, improved team communication about the patient care plan, inclusion of the patient in decision-making, and teaching opportunities. An important goal for the team in future practice is also to improve the quality and safety of the care delivery through reduced mortality rates and long-term morbidity.

The Conscious Competence Learning Model would be my favorite among the reflective practices as this incorporates both learning and experience, both of which are crucial components of patient-centered care. Since we deal with various patients who might require various types of approaches, techniques, or interventions, this reflective practice model includes various stages such as unconscious and conscious incompetence, unconscious and conscious competence, and reflective competence that can be applied in my future practice as a PT. While each patient has a unique set of evaluation procedures and/or intervention demands, some practitioners may find it challenging to manage patients with a wide range of conditions. Consequently, this is where experience plays a critical role as practitioners could only enhance certain competencies when they have the opportunity to partake at how the strategies are applied in practice.

Not only does it build relationships and trust among members, but also it helps every member of the group to feel included in the tasks. As we know, this course comprises different departments that may potentially vary our opinions from one another.

To be completely sincere, the limitation of an online set-up and the hectic schedule of every member made communication difficult. Thus, this made accomplishing tasks take longer and inefficient. To manage the group better, the group decided to choose a leader to divide the tasks equally and fairly for each person. Additionally, a randomizer ensured that the division of the work was distributed fairly and without bias.

Having a leader within the group made the tasks run smoother as there was a point person to rely on in initiating the activity given. Every member was given a particular duty, and it was their responsibility to do it within the allotted timeframe. Hence, this maximized the time and made the work more efficient. In summary, the group may have stumbled upon problems during this course, but it was addressed immediately with the strategies implemented as mentioned above.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Reflecting allows us to be aware of the actions that we make. It helps us develop our skills and potentially improve our existing knowledge. Reflecting on our practice makes us effective practitioners as we tend to understand what we do. We also openly admit the mistakes that we had performed and the possible solutions or alternatives for that situation.

Out of all the given reflective practices, Gibb's model of the reflective cycle was my favorite. This framework comprises six stages namely: description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. I like this model because it lets the individual reflect on what happened in a particular situation and what they feel about that scenario. It also allows the individual to evaluate the good and bad experiences that they learned from it. It also lets the individual analyze the situation and what they could have done. Lastly, the individual can act accordingly based on the learnings from past experiences.

With Gibb's model of the reflective cycle, I can apply this in my practice by assessing what went well and poorly in the sessions. I can also reflect on the situation and think of what could I have done differently in performing and treating my patients. Hence, I can find ways of improving my ability to execute the assessment effectively and efficiently without having to repeat the mistakes I have made in the past.

Reflection model by Rolfe et al (2001).

While accomplishing PLA task 3, the group was able to work effectively and efficiently with the use of communication and teamwork. The team effectively communicated by sharing their insights and accomplishing their delegated parts. Even though the group was unable to have a synchronous meeting or interact in person for this assignment, the outcome and process were still smooth. The group also exhibited great teamwork by accomplishing their tasks on time, contributing quality outputs, and interacting with their partners.

The team was able to communicate online through a messaging application for the dissemination of tasks. Furthermore, my partner and I communicated in real-time through a call since it was a faster and more efficient way to exchange thoughts and address concerns. We were able to create an outline for our task and worked on the formation of our individual parts asynchronously. Hence, our meeting went well and we finished our parts ahead of time. However, the team as a whole could improve communication by ensuring that all the members have read the PLA 3 through one synchronous session where they could have a quick rundown.

From PLA 3, I realized that communication and teamwork are vital. To create quality work, these should be present in a group because every member should be involved. As future allied health professionals, we should be able to not only communicate effectively but also be active listeners. More so, initiation is also an important part of teamwork because it makes our work easier.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice

It is important to reflect on practice because it enables us to be self-aware practitioners that reflect on our clinical performance. In addition, the reflective practice puts meaning into our experiences and actions. Reflecting is necessary for our practice and is a component of professional thinking. It allows us to understand the areas in which we can improve and how we can improve this. In essence, it allows us to search for continuous learning with the purpose to refine our skills. We as professionals want to provide the best services for our clients which is why reflective practice is necessary for this.

My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb’s Model of the Reflective Cycle. This cycle has six steps: Description (What happened?), Feelings (What were you thinking and feeling?), Evaluation (What was good and bad about the experience?), Analysis (What sense can you make of the situation?), Conclusion (What else could you have done?), and Action Plan (If it arose again, what would you so?). Although this model has multiple steps, each is relevant to the process of reflection. Firstly, it requires pertinent information on the experience. Moreover, I appreciate how it takes into consideration one’s feelings and then provides an objective analysis in the evaluation. Then it allows one to learn from the experience, look at it from a different perspective, and then understand what could they have done differently.

In my future practice, I would apply this model of practice would allow me to reflect on situations with my clients, team members, and the health workers around me. This model of practice would allow me to reflect and provide the utmost services by critically evaluating my performance. Furthermore, this cycle allows me to act on my performance by creating an action plan and not merely stopping at the feelings level. Most students or individuals, end at the second level, however, it is important to go through all the steps in order to have a reflective practice.

1. Reflect on the importance of communication and teamwork on your own IPE group after completing PLA 3. How did the team communicate? What went will and how can it be improved?

Communication consists of exchanging information that is beneficial for the team. Teamwork, on the other hand, is wherein the team works together in order to achieve a goal. Both of these go hand in hand. After the synergy activity, I could say that our team dynamic has improved which resulted in better communication and teamwork. However, due to the fact that we had to go back into the online setup, I would say that once again, it was very difficult to establish a good communication because there were a lot of factors to consider such as schedules and internet connectivity issues. These factors became a hindrance for us to work effectively. In order to establish order and equal workload, our LO would designate a task to each members. Personally, this is a great way to make sure that everyone is working, and it also gives everyone the opportunity to give their opinions and thoughts to a certain task or topic. However, this strategy also has its downside. It may be that a member is too busy or too shy to give out opinions or ideas to a topic not assigned to him or her. Unlike during the synergy activity, everyone is much more comfortable and encourage to speak out and initiate. Thus, in order to improve the group's output, maybe we can set a meeting and discuss our answers so that other members may suggest their own opinions and ideas to further add or enhance our work.

2. Why should we reflect on practice? What’s your favorite model of reflective practice?
Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Reflective practice is defined as critical and deliberate inquiry into professional practice in order to gain a deeper understanding of oneself, others, and the meaning is shared among individuals (Forester, 20120; Peter 1991; Schon, 1983). Reflecting on practice is important as it provides us a space to think about ourselves as well as evaluate our own practice. This will help us understand what are our strengths and weakness to help develop our skills as clinicians. Furthermore, continuous reflection can help prevent stagnation as we continuously evaluate ourselves and think about ways that could help us improve as a person.

If I were to choose a specific model of reflective practice, I would choose Gibbs' Reflective Cycle because it is the only model that considers the feelings of a person and also evaluates an experience based on both good and bad experiences. During practice, it is common to make mistakes. I think that this model is helpful because as starting clinicians, it is important to acknowledge what we feel. Even more so in interprofessional practice because each member has their own problems that may have hindered them (or me) in providing best practice. As a starting clinician, I think this model is great. However, I think it would be best not just to focus on one model. Instead, what we could do is apply the principles of other models in order to have a full, comprehensive, and confounding reflective practice.

It is what drives the productivity and work ethics of the team. Communication builds rapport and resolves confusion between team members as it helps one another grasp and understands what needs to be accomplished. Furthermore, communication leads to effective group dynamics and teamwork which helps in producing quality outcomes or services.

During PLA 3, the group showed both effective communication and collaboration. The leader assigned different parts of the paper to certain group members. This method effectively supports equal distribution between members of the group which pushes everyone to carry out their roles and attend to their tasks. The leader also consults the group regarding the internal deadline to know if everyone from the group agrees with it and can comply with it. Deadlines set are reasonable and give the members ample time to compose an answer to each question. After everyone works, the final output will be initially checked again by everyone before passing the paper. During this time, members can give comments or suggest thoughts that can be added to some parts. These strategies are deemed to be effective as the group has not encountered any problems when doing the tasks. For improvements, the group could work more on expressing their thoughts in group chats or on asking about concepts that confuse them regarding the paper instead of asking certain individuals about their concerns.

2. Reflecting serves as a key component of self-awareness as it helps us assess what transpired and the things we can do the next time we encounter a similar situation. As healthcare practitioners, reflecting on practice is essential as we are able to assess how we can do better as a professional and how we can improve our performance for a quality service delivery to our clients.

My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb’s Reflective Cycle. Not only this, but it also includes an action plan on what should be done in future practice. In my future practice, it can be applied when dealing with clients who have the same conditions. For instance, we encountered a stroke patient and upon the discharge of service, this certain reflective model can be applied. What could have done to the previous patient or what essential information or lesson from that certain patient can be carried on to the next patient can be assessed using this model.

It is crucial in establishing camaraderie, relationships, and trust among members. In the medical field, it helps to create the best possible healthcare for every patient we encounter. Currently, there are limitations to online settings since tasks must be done online, and it takes advantage of the human challenges of communication, as each member must have reliable internet and the presence of mind to address problems in every possible output.

The IPE team was able to address the following guide question at the PLA 3. The team shared their viewpoints concerning their experiences, as well as their insights about the synergy activity, which was the backbone of our output. Our leader used roulette as a method of dividing the tasks fairly and without bias, which opened to a smoother and faster execution of tasks as each member has parts to the group output that must be answered. Everyone was able to do it in the agreed timeframe. As a part of the team, I complied with the task assigned to me and shared freely regarding my overall experience with the synergy activity and the importance of cohesion (which was improved due to the face-to-face activity) to the flow of communication between the team members. Despite the difficulties that the team is facing in this setup, the group managed to move forward through the implementation of different strategies, which paved the way for us to be in this position.

2.) Why should we reflect on practice? What is your favorite model of reflective practice? Explain. How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Through the course of our lives, reflecting allows us to dive into the possible outcomes and implications of the decisions that we make. It allows us to be the better version of ourselves. Being reflective on oneself in our practice makes us more assertive in the professional decisions and approaches that we implement with our patients. It allows us to broaden our minds. Even though it does not eliminate the chances of committing mistakes, it allows us to understand the complexity of our job thoroughly, enabling us to become proficient practitioners by creating solutions through various experiences.

Personally, Gibb's Model of the Reflective Cycle is suited to my current situation. It has six stages in learning from experiences: description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. It can be used as a tool for the team to be in touch with each member as it allows understanding of everyone's feelings and evaluates a predicament through reflection, which enables the team to cater to all the needs of each member and address the problem through their past experiences and teamwork. This model can be applied in the medical field since practitioners have patients with a different numbers of cases daily. It can be used to recap the good and the bad experiences, so we can reflect on them and create strides to prevent them from happening once again. This approach helps to have finer execution in performing treatments and further develop the skills that are necessary to become a good healthcare worker.
