Maker-Spaces- I am so fortunate that right after I took over as our school's teacher librarian the school put us in a temporary space so they could tear down the old library and build a new, state-of-the-art library. This means I get to help plan the spaces and what I want to have in them. One thing I want to have is three small rooms for maker space rooms. The architectural plans were pretty much done when I came to the table, but what the various rooms are used for is pretty much up to me. I want to have things like a lego room, a 3-D printer room, a dismantling and rebuilding room, etc.) So I need to do more research to see what is feasible and some surveys to see what the students would like to have. These articles will help guide me. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/03/everyone-is-a-maker/473286/ and https://www.slj.com/2015/01/technology/creating-a-school-library-maker-space-the-beginning-of-a-journey-tech-tidbits/

I definitely want to plan for a quiet zone in the learning commons we are building, so I am working with the archititect to make sure that one of the rooms in the design has the wall changed from solid wall to a glass wall. This way I can have the library be a learning commons with all sorts of collaboration and discussions happening, and still provide a quiet room for studying and reading where I can see what is happening. I want to be conscious of the introverts among us and take care of them as well, so I will need to read articles such as http://publiclibrariesonline.org/2015/06/quiet-in-the-library-working-with-introverted-personalities/ to make sure I am meeting the needs of all students in the new learning commons environment.
