The analysis of the novel "Monster" is Steve seems pretty freaked out. He's trying to find a way to deal with both the trial and the nastiness surrounding him in prison. Just writing in his journal isn't keeping him away form thinking about what might happen to him in the future, so he begins journaling what is going on around him into a screenplay. Almost like a script for a movie, which is why the book is in script form.

The novel "Monster" really connects to the novel "Prisoner B-3087". Both books are dismal because both of the main characters in these books are forced to be held captive in prison and in a prison camp. Both characters are held captive because of a stereotypical thing, like Steve having black skin. In the novel "Prisoner B-3087" the main character is named Yanek, a 10 year old Jewish boy that's going through the harshness of the Nazi Regime. Yanek is put into the prison camp because of his religion. Yanek and Steve are similar because they both are young for being in such gnarly situations like this. Both were forced into a captivity because of there religion and race. These novels connect so well because they are so similar in how the plot is formatted.

Steve is put on trial and is put in prison. This is because of his skin color and age. Steve is not being treated fairly. The judge and jury look at him like he's just another felon, also meaning a bad person. The difference between him and most of the other felons is they all are bad people, when he's just a average sixteen year old. All the other felons are at least five years older than him, Steve's just a little baby in prison.

Steve is taken into custody for a crime he did not commit. He was accused because of his skin color and his lifestyle. “There was a baseball game on but it didn't look real. It was guys in uniforms playing a game on a deep green field. They were playing baseball as if baseball was important and as if all the world wasn't in jail, watching them from a completely different world"(Myers 162). This quote reassures how bored Steve is in jail and how worthless he feels in the world, like he had never been there before. "When Miss O'Brien looked at me... what did she see that caused her to turn away? What did she see?”(Myers 192). This suggests that Miss O´Brien didn't respect Steve´s appearance, and then responded with disrespect. This shows the innocence of Steve and how people stereotyped him into custody.

Steve is mad that he got put into this situation. All he did was just walk into a gas station, then walk out. Yet he is convicted of robbing the store, and killing Mr.Nesbitt a worker in the store. Steve is confused why he's even on trial and especially why he's in jail. He starts to realize that because of his skin color he is judged differently and is more then less likely to be the one tried for this crime over a white person.

The theme of the novel "Monster" connects to the story of OJ Simpson. The story of OJ Simpson connects to the novel "Monster" because both OJ Simpson and Steve are found guilty before anyone, because of one's assumptions on them. Even though OJ Simpson was found guilty in killing his wife. When the murder of his wife happened, people immediately blamed the murder on him, but why? OJ was a black male who had grown up in a rough area, so people stereotype that he is a thug, and would have the guts to kill his wife. Steve is put in a similar situation as OJ, with not having a lot of help from his background of life. They both were put in prison without certainty of being guilty.
