<title>Simon is one of the boys from the plane crash to end up on the island. Simon is first introduced when he faints. Simon is very independent and peaceful in his own world which makes him come across as odd to the other children. Simon was seen as a peaceful and wise figure throughout the novel, until he was brutally murdered by the boys who thought he was the beast.</title>

<title>Simon discovers the impaled pig’s head at the clearing of the jungle on the island. He names it the ‘Lord of the Flies’ as it is swarming with flies. The head symbolises the devil to Simon and it speaks to him in hallucinations. Simon is also the symbol of truth and vision in the novel. Simon as a whole and his personality represent the goodness in civilisation which is rare and hard to come by. His brutal murder at the hands of the other boys indicates the scarcity of good amid an overwhelming abundance of evil.&amp;nbsp;</title>

<title>Simon is the one to notice that the beast is not a real thing but rather a representation of the brutality and savagery throughout the group. This is evident when he says,&amp;nbsp;“What I mean is… Maybe it’s only us”. The beast rather represents the savagery present within each human being.</title>
