I have purchased the "Learn German With Stories - 10 Short Stories for Beginners" book series, 8 books in total.

I regularly read through one of the chapters/stories. I have found this very beneficial as the books are well thought out with simple sentence structures. They introduce new vocabulary while using context well for the reader to attempt to establish the meaning. By reading on an e-reader, that utilises a German->English dictionary, quick translations can be made when reading that minimises the disruption to the flow of reading. The text is highlighted in bold for certain vocabulary that has clear translations at the end of each chapter and the chapter length means that not too much time has passed between reading in German and seeing the translation. This helps improve confidence in reading German with some flow.

In watching this video it reinforced the importance of learning the articles with nouns to prevent confusion (i.e. das Tor = the gate/portal and der Tor = the fool).

It was recommended, although admittedly still not very easy, to learn the nouns and accompanying articles as a single word rather than the English language perspective of two separate words.
I use flashcards to learn the nouns and their articles and I try to revise this regularly.

This has helped to improve my learing through repetition by trying to attempt it daily. Duolingo contains vocabulary in addition to the course materials for the which broadens my learning.

They are well structured and there is plenty of material which means you can progress at your own pace without waiting for more information to be released. However, Duolingo does not provide much explanation on grammatical rules or reasons for incorrect answers which would make it frustrating on its own.
