Lincoln prosecuted the civil war and protected the union and stood for his country. Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation which freed an upwards of 20,000 slaves. After the civil war he wrote up the thirteenth amendment which made slavery unconstitutional. Lee for the confederate army. He led troops at Manassas, Antietam, and Fredricksburg. He lost an arm and died by accidentally getting shot by his own troops. He got the name Stonewall by how he stood his ground at the battle of Manassas. Rebel was a term to describe the people that supported the confederate states. There was also a "rebel yell" which was something that was considered the confederate war cry. This was something that was said to bring fear to the union soldiers yet gave strength and courage to the confederate soldiers. The states included in this group was Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri, but then when created, West Virginia joined the group in 1863. The reason for them not seceding was because they were afraid of drowning economically and politically. This gave the union a monopoly against the confederate army. It went between Pennsylvania north to Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware to the south. This was seen as a great technical advancement because it drew the line between the north and the south during the civil war. It was also used to separate the slave owning state of Maryland to the free state of Pennsylvania. The south of this line was called Dixie.
